Veterans Day Thank you!

Lest we forget, there are those who stand in harm's way from both the past and the present....who sacrifice for us.

I got an email from Afghanistan this morning (from a former Dekalb Officer)..... My friend just got back from 4 days of overnight ops against the Taliban.....he's in an active battle zone, away from his family and sleeping outdoors in temps below 30. (Thanks Jay Huggins!...be safe)

George Washington had it right: "The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation." Please thank a veteran today – their service ensures our freedom.

This applies to police officers too. How are we going to recruit good people with all of this mess going on here?

We are already losing officers becasue of our pay going down, down, down. Bottom line is take home pay and paying our bills. I hear Gwinnett County P.D. is about to hire a bunch of DeKalb Officers. There is no incentive for the younger officers to stay with DeKalb P.D. Officer rentention is an impossiblity right now

I am a former Marine and retired Dekalb Police Officer. I know DeKalb sucks. I grew up there and watched it spiral downhill, but I am glad i went to work there because I learned from that experience. I know one thing, working as a DeKalb cop means you are in a "low grade" war zone all the time and occasionally it busts loose into a real fight. Dekalb Officers should recieve overseas pay and combat pay for the BS they have to endure on a daily basis. I'm glad my tour is up there! Yall that are left in the war zone need to keep your heads up and your magazines dry.
