Wanted: Residents' Views On DeKalb Cops

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. will hold a public comment session on Monday December 6 at fire headquarters at 1950 W. Exchange Place, Tucker. Residents unable to attend the public comment session can also give public comments by calling 770-724-7839 between 2-4 p.m. on Monday.

When is the department going to seek comments from the officers themselves? That's what we thought.

AJC article.

This department is no longer worthy of accreditation due to the mistreatment of its officers and sub-standard operating conditions, facilities, and equipment. We should loose accreditation in order to send a wake-up call to Decatur.

Time to speak with the citizens that we know are not afraid to speak up. All you ICP guys know who they are. Inform them that this is a chance to speak the truth and not allow Decatur to sugar coat the facts.

Anon 11:05 I agree 100%. This place has been held together with duct tape and string for way too long. Good officers and good intentions can only do so much without funding and the backing of Decatur. If they cared about the safety of the public at all things wouldnt be like this.

Did you know that the metal detector in the lobby of the police building is broken.

The county does not have the funds to have it repaired.

I say lose the accreditation. Maybe someone in charge will open their eyes then...Oh sorry there is no one in charge..That's the damn problem....
Who ever thinks there in charge. Here is an idea, stop trying to reinvent the wheel..Small changes are better than no changes...really it's not rocket science....

Hey idot with your comments about NYPD being a top rated department. NYPD has never been a highly rated department. They look great on TV shows but in reality their shoes are rarely ever shined and their uniforms have a tendency to look sloppy. Two thirds (700 detectives)of their SID were convicted in the late seventies for being on the take. They always are having officers arrested and their pay is lower than any other surrounding department.
LAPD is a very highly rated department with great training, equipment, and pay. They have had a few scandals but not many of their 12000 officers get arrested. There was Rodney King and Rampart scandals. They have very high standards and a 100+ pension system at 3% a year.
LAPD is a highly rated department and always has been.
When the LAPD SWAT Team is deployed they take action and usually the coroner's office personnel is on the scene a few hours after the SWAT team's arrival.
The NAVY Seal teams train with LAPD and LA Sheriff's SWAT teams

Comment, You got it!

98% of the folks who lived in DeKalb and made it the economic powerhouse that it used to be LEFT because of IDIOTS who come to power and then remade DeKalb in thier own image. Memorial Drive used to be the place to find any type of work. Now its title pawn and hubcap stores and vacant buildings, street walking hookers and drugs. And its been that way for several years now. The reason is CRIME. Until the morons in Decatur address the crime problem. The way you do that is to FUND PUBLIC SAFETY! Obviously the leaders of this county and the voters who elected them could care less about public safety. What these elected officials care about are things that make them look good and get them reelected.
DeKalb County has been remade into a 3rd rate slum and the police department has been starved out until it has now become 3rd rate as well. I used to be so proud that I was a DeKalb County Police Officer. Now it is an embarrasment and I tell no one. The leadership in Decatur has ruined my home and there arent enough of me around anymore to vote you idiots out of office.
