I’m sure he’s a nice guy and a good officer and if he created this computer app, kudos to him but I still remember the comments made in the Dunwoody Crier in Aug of 09, "Furman said since the (Dunwoody)police department has been created, (Dunwoody) police have noticed Dunwoody citizens were used to a slower response, if one at all, from DeKalb authorities." I took that comment as slander, to suggest we as DKPD officers didn‘t do our job.
Another thing that bothered me about this award. The Police Alliance was in part created to provide additional assistance to an officer’s families if the officer lost his life. Why not give the award to someone(s) who actions involved that element; how many raids did SWAT successfully conduct the past year, the uniform officer who handled the most priority 1 calls in the year or heck the Sheriff’s Fugitive team. I think all of the above and many more would have been a far better choice.
Lastly, the average DKPD comes to work everyday to face some of the metro area’s most dangerous neighborhoods. He does so with second rate equipment, no chance of a pay raise, furlough days just in time for Christmas and still performs his duty to the best of his ability only to see the DeKalb Police Alliance give the Officer of the Year award to an officer who works for the city that arguably cost the county $20 million. Just seems like another kick in the teeth. That $20 million would of kept DeKalb’s Police and Fire on the job.

I want you all to really hear this. Dunwoody did not and does not have issues with the Dekalb Officers who served our city. We still appreciate and support you very much, and personally, it is painful to watch what you have to tolerate as employees of this truly efft up county. The issue was this - we now have 42 sworn officers, only in Dunwoody, and not spread all over the North area, esp Buford Hwy. How many were here under Dekalb County? You couldn't possibly have given us the response time we have now, by sheer numbers alone.
There are always very deserving people left out of awards, and I hope those people are rewarded in some way. So next year, Anon 3, please nominate them.
There is not a day that goes by that I'm not aware of how important you are - to me, and to the overall success of this county. It is my hope that you all find a way to get through this, whatever that means, so that you once again feel proud, happy, and confident.
And to Officer Furman, congratulations! You are truly deserving, and I thank you for your many contributions to the enhanced safety of our community.
And to Dekalb Officers, from my heart, I sincerely thank you as well.
Be safe.

To anon 1:37,

Officer Furman was just one of many award recipients. There were winners from DKPD, Clarkston, Pine Lake, civilians, and other departments.
