Charlie was a great cop, a good friend and the best supervisor you could ask for. Thanks for everything you taught me Charlie, RIP brother

That say it comes in three's. Zade Harper, Charlie Nelson and Charlie Kessler. These guys were real cops. I'm sure they are having a great reunion talking over old times. A time when Dekalb Police arrived on the scene, respect was demanded and given. RIP brothers. You have earned your rest.

One of the best Lieutenant's that I have ever had the pleasure of working for.
And for some reason when he came to roll call and addressed us as "Son's a Bitchies" I knew he had our backs.
Go in peace Charlie, may Gifford be standing at the door waiting on you.
You have been missed since the day you retired.

My heart is saddened to learn of Charlie's passing. I worked with him at DKPD from 1980-1986. He was a Centerside Sgt, I was a dispatcher. I loved working with Charlie, he was one of the kindest most caring men I have ever met. He will be missed by many. Heaven sure gained another awesome Angel today. May you rest in peace my dear friend. I will always remember you.

Sad to hear of so many losses in such a short time. I'm sure my John was waiting for Charlie Nelson, he thought a lot of him. My thoughts and prayers go to his family. I think there is a grand choir practice going on !!

A word of thanks to the DKPD honor guard that attended Charlie Nelson's funeral. The phrase "LOOKED SHARP AS A NEW DRILL INSTRUCTOR" seems inadequate.
You guy's [and girls PC] looked and acted with the respect Charlie deserved and we [The old CKPD crew and the family] were very apprciative and you guy's will never get enough "thank you's" to convey how we all felt.
Your display of strength and compassion were reassuring.

Thanks to all who attended and knew Charlie, he is without a doubt, one of the finest men I have ever met and served with.
DKPD may have a lame BOC but the street troops are still the best. I work in Atlanta now and although they are pretty good, DKPD still rocks. Rock on in 2011 and be safe my brothers.
PS: I see Tom Stewart made Lt. and Anthony "dont call me Tony" Gallow made Capt. Two of the best!! Congrats

Just be grateful Graham isn't our Chief anymore. He didn't want to allow the honor guard at the funeral of a DeKalb County Police Officer who was killed off duty in an accident. Why our honor guard was at Graham's funeral, I'll never understand.

Zade and Charlie were both my first sergeants. Some of the best guys I ever worked for. They will be missed.
