$19.85 An Hour For Picking Up Trash?

Are we to assume the likes of recreation center employees and trash collectors make $19.85 an hour? Over $38,000 a year? That's more than starting pay of a police officer.

If the average hourly wage for all county employees is $19.85, then no wonder the county is broke.

Dekalb county is controled by communists. What else were you expecting? To them a police officer is no better than a homeless drug addict, hooker, or garbage man. In fact, I am convinced that they actually look down on us because public servants, cops, teachers, etc, are "stupid enough to serve". And, I am also convinced that they really hate us because we expose them for what they truly are...self serving a$$ holes!

I had heard they make about $35,000 a year. Granted, it's a nasty job, but you guys spend a lot of your time picking up trash too. Except I don't think anyone tries to injure or kill trash collectors.
As always, be safe - citizens appreciate you and what you do much more than you know.

I hope that any 10 year DeKalb County employee, no matter how menial you consider their job, makes a decent salary. I'm sure they'd like to provide the same small comforts and extras for their family that you do.

I agree with you that ANY DeKalb employee should make a decent wage. But therein lies the disparity. You simply cannot equate the job a patrol officer does in DeKalb County to any other job. The danger is extreemly high. The hours you spend away from home in court all day after working all night on the street. The extensive training required to achieve and maintain just to hold the job. And last but not least, the hedious work environment fostered by idiots in Decatur and fools who were appointed by those idiots to "lead" the police department.
Police Officers for the most part are idealists to the core. We would not do what we do unless down deep in our souls we wanted to help others. The politicians in Decatur know this and use it against us by keeping our wages low and our hours long and our job expectaions impossible. The citizens are the ones who ultimately suffer the most, yet they continue to elect idiots to represent them and spend thier tax money. Now would someone please explain why they do that???

Trash collecting what an art. Ride on the back of a truck jump off put trash in back of truck, jump back on drive 30 feet jump off put trash in back of truck, continue till its time to go to McDonalds for lunch. I am sure they have yearly training to certify them to jump up and down on a truck and to avoid on coming traffic.

I think it's interesting that I've been a police officer for Dekalb County for 8 years and I only make $23.37/hr... thats not even $4 more than the supposed volunteers would make. I've averaged 4.0 or better on all my evals in that time... so it's not from poor performance. I was chatting up a sanitation worker at the pumps a couple weeks ago and found out he was making $25+/hr after only working for the county for 5 years and he was so happy cause he got the job right after being released from prison on a 5 year stint. Things that make you go hummmm.

I hope this is not true!!!
