Only in Dekalb would they demote the best 2 majors we have

Anonymous said...

Wow, only in Dekalb.

Another act of punishing the leaders. Jones is a good leader. But why not get rid of the napoleon down in east. I hope the citizens in south start complaining again like they did last time they tried this

Dekalb whipping boy is a bitch said...

This place is something else. They demoted two good men. T.D. Williams is so well respected among his troops. He is the only leader that actually still hit the streets.

They demote the only 2 majors that treated people with respect and dignity. Absolutely amazing! I guess good guys do finish last in Dekalb. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

T.D. & Steve must not be drinking the cool-aid...these 2 are officer type supervisors.....when they handle the paper work at the prec....they get out and handle calls......when was the last time you turned around and saw a white shirt as your back up????....and they demanded the same of thier staff below them.....

It just goes to show you...when you bust your ass for this county and try to make a difference because you care...they shit on you....and not just a little bit......if there are mis-spelled words.....it is because I'm so freaking upset...I'm pissed......TD was promoted to Sgt. when I started with the county...and Steve....known hin for a while....including the bad times.....so I've been here more than a few weeks......

They said they would never be able to pull the wild hair out of my ass for my motivation for the job I love.....but.....I'm starting to realise......why give a shit.....and thats bad......to the leaders of the county....hope it was worth it!!!!...because you can kiss my ass ...not on this side....and not on that side......but right up the middle!!!!!

SHAME on O'Brien said...

All I can say is SHAME on you Chief O'Brien!! Your boy Yarbrough is gonna destroy whats left of this place and you are letting it happen! These two guys treated us fair, with respect and dignity and you have taken that away from us. You expect us to follow this tyrant "leadership" your pushing?? I have really lost all respect now....I'm over this place!!!

Anonymous said...

I'm sure they will blame us, the line Officers for their demotions because the "numbers" are down....especially the numbers for them revenue raising traffic citations the BOC(Board of Crooks) and CEO (Chief Embezzlement Officer) want written to help compensate for their mismanagement of taxpayer money....get ready for the full court press from supervisors to write them tickets. I wont be issuing any but I'm sure some of us will fold under the pressure.

Anonymous said...

Of course Stathis is safe - he treats his officers like crap, and drives good officers to seek transfer or quit the department - but that will never change - he's not worried about crime as long as officers are writing a ton of tickets.

Anonymous said...

Jones a good leader? Promoted about 6 months ago to Captain and a kiss-@ss that will shaft anyone he gets a chance if they dont drink his kool-aide. But he will make the officers write tickets like a certain Uniform Chief wants.

Anonymous said...

Zimm, did you not get your way at east? Is that why you are slamming a 30 plus year vet of the department? At least he's not a quitter. I will give you credit though...you couldn't stand the heat, so you got out of the kitchen.

Anonymous said...

Lol@Matt the napoleon yes he should've been gone or made to retire. Of course Banks is going back to Narcotics that's all he knows (totally incompetent) Jones will be a good Major I do believe. However, TD Williams should have never been promoted to the position of MAJOR! in the first place he needs to be demoted to an MPO seeing as though he loves to hit the beat and stir up trouble for his troops to come along and cleanup his mess. We was just fine with our old MAJOR!

Anonymous said...

Is it any wonder that these two caring majors were demoted. Fore and Williams have always been oriented to what is in the best interests of the getting the job done AS WELL AS their troops. And that apparently was the problem. Caring for their troops. Ironically, that is exactly the mark of the best leadership.

This system of appointing majors and above is nothing but a revolving door. I can't help but wonder when one is promoted to these ranks does the thought enter their mind, "How long will I be able to stay here?"

The previous system of EARNING your rank based upon merit instead of popularity was one of the things that made our department strong. Think for a moment if our military used the appointed system. It would be just as disfunctional as we are now. When people are promoted based upon their own merit, then the best leaders will rise to the top, command a formidible force, and above all have the respect and following of their subordinates. That in turn equals strong morale.

Hmmmm, here I go making sense again.

It is sad that two of the nicest people you could ever work for are being demoted and what for, well because they were not hard enough on there troops who are already over worked, under paid and under staffed. Major Williams is not just a good leader he is a great leader, one who doesn’t hide behind his desk and run the precinct from his office using his radio. The first time I met Major Williams was on one of my calls he jumped. I have nothing but respect for a leader who walks in the trenches with his troop’s everyday. I agree that the dictator that runs east should have been the one demoted. It just goes to show that being nice and honest doesn’t get you any where in this place. Major Williams was the best major at south in along time and he will be missed at south.

Anonymous said...

OMG....i tell you Dekalb is really going down the drain. Major Fore was and is one of the few leaders than you can truly talk with without the "brass" getting the better of the conversation. He is a great leader and is not afraid to get in the trenches when needed. Dekalb gives no incentive to those who truly work hard and want to make it to the top. Im so glad im among the smart ones who left this hell whole....no offense but those who are vested or dried up have no choice to stay. But there are bigger and better opportunities for those of yall willing to think outside the corrupt box of DKPD!

I'd MUCH rather be able to look myself in the mirror and sleep at night than be a Major in charge of Glenwood to I-285. ...LOSERS

Looks like Wiz Miller is striking back. This place is a joke. The best two leaders get demoted, and for who? You would think they would do a better job of hiding the fact that Wiz Miller, Dale Holmes, and Captain Banks, are best buds. In this case they just dont care and hook up Captain Banks and put him back in narcotics. Im sure this will make a difference and boost morale.
Chief OBrien you are being used as a pawn around a racist Department and you too will soon be replaced. I dont know how anything ever gets done around the Police Department. How are Officers expected to perform at a high level when Chiefs, Majors, Captains, change way too much. This place is disfunctional at best.
I guess Vicki Logan will soon be a Major or Chief.
GTFOOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The "Matt" posting earlier comments is not Zimm. If I have something to say I will say it to you using my REAL name. However, to comment on the people mentioned in this post I will say have always seemed to be passionate and proactive in their jobs having their hearts in the right pace based on my experience with them. If you have a need to address me do it like a man.

Yours truly,

There is a phrase for what is going on around here and it is called "Hostile work environment" There are way too many changes. This is the only agency where crap like this happens. Chief OBrien you are a joke, and I will do my best to avoid you at all cost.

Anonymous said...

Looks like Wiz Miller is hooking up his folks before he gets canned. Sad situation and will never work as hard as I did for Major Fore. FTP!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

TD Williams is a hard working cop's cop and a great commander. He also happens to be a really good guy. Just for those who may not know, TD is a black Major who is well liked and respected officers and supervisors of all the colors in the PD. Just don't understand what is going on here.

Anonymous said...

Fore and Williams have no one to blame but themselves. It's their own fault for remembering where they came from, standing up for their troops, and being respected by everyone who works with them and for them.

I'd like to see a news agency do an open records request of personell files and email exchanges on this one, because this doesn't seem like an O'Brien decision. This smells of Wiz Miller, Ellis, and their inner circle.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know of any "valid reasons" for the demotions? Are valid reasons even needed anymore?

Anonymous said...

WZ Miller is never here and has no idea what is going on in the department OR he runs everything and is to blame for everything you don’t like in the department. WHICH IS IT? It can’t be both!

I am sick of everything being blamed on WZ Miller simply because you can’t bring yourself to believe O’Brien could ever do anything wrong. Wake up idiots! I don’t care if Miller stays or goes but he is not making these decisions. If you could ask Fore and Williams who met with them to tell them they were being demoted I guarantee you it was O’Brien and that crazy kook Yarbrough.

O’Brien has appointed two different people to the rank of Assist. Chief to run the Uniform Division and both of them are crazy as hell!

Fore and Williams are both good men who were respected by their officers. I hate to see this happen to either of them. They obviously were not Yarbrough men and didn’t kiss enough ass!

Anonymous said...

Will this godforsaken county EVER run out of Kool-Aid? Wouldn't you think by now the cooler would be empty? Lord help us all!

Anonymous said...

"Valid reasons" in this county are a thing of the past. No such phrase in anyone of their vocabularies. To IMGONNAJUMP: would you like to share with us the significance of 12/21/2012? Guess I must have slept through that announcement.

Anonymous said...

Anon 1118 continued..

Leaders lead by example.

Major Williams answers calls with us, treats us, his officers, with respect, dignity, and honesty. Major Williams would consistently tell us "thank you for all your hard work and all that you do".

Major Williams also remembers that he works for the citizens of south pct. That was reflected in his building and maintaining relationships with the community that his precinct served by meeting and listening to the complaints and concerns alike.

Major Williams...If your reading this...as one of your officers, I would like to tell you thank you for making South Pct the place to be in DKPD and showing us what true leaders are made of. I salute you. This move made on you, us, and the citizens at south sucks. You will truly be missed by all.

Anonymous said...

Here's a "valid" reason. How about because the chief said so!!! That's why he is called the chief. Someday when you're chief you can make these type of decisions.

I'm not privy to what goes on behind closed doors and I suspect neither are any of you. When you get to the rank of Major and beyond you are no longer in control of your own destiny. Your rank is at the leisure of the chief. Thats just the way it is.

After reading the majority of these comments alot of you need to grow up and put your bigboy pants on.

Flame away!!

Anonymous said...

A lot of good men have been demoted or forced to retire in the past. I don’t believe any of them deserved it, but that’s just my opinion. I don’t know if these guys deserved it or not but the bottom line is we all still put our pants on the same way each morning "One leg at a time". Good luck gentlemen.

Anonymous said...

Of course there is no valid reason for this move. It is obviously personal. Crime in Tucker and South have been down over the last few years. Both Majors were working Majors and hit the streets daily with their Officers in an effort to preserve what little morale was left in this department. This is a total contrast to Chief OBrien and Wiz Miller who are never seen by troops.
I just want to personally thank both Majors for their support and dedication they displayed as leaders in their respective Precincts. This type of bullying is not how you earn the respect and trust of the working Officers. At least Major Fore and Williams can sleep at night with a piece of mind and attend their respective churchs knowing that they ultimately did what is right. As far as the person or persons responsible for their removal you will ultimately get yours in the end. Remember what goes around comes around.
Thank you Major Fore and Major Williams.

So who was tagged to replace the former majors?

No real changes at my level...punch the clock and do what I've been doing: MY JOB!

Anonymous said...

I have a lot of faith the Chief makes good decisions but I don't like the smell of this one. It just proves you work hard all your life to make rank and treat your people well only to get screwed in the end. This place is a joke.
Chief this message is for you I don't expect you to have explain all your actions to the troops but I think we deserve to know why these two supivisors where shit on.

In response to this post:

"... However, TD Williams should have never been promoted to the position of MAJOR! in the first place he needs to be demoted to an MPO seeing as though he loves to hit the beat and stir up trouble for his troops to come along and cleanup his mess. We was just fine with our old MAJOR!"

Are you an idiot? You have got to be kidding me. Must be the old Major C. Williams, now Lt. Get a life. T.D. is not only respected by his troops but also by the community. Lets get real people.

Here are the enforcement stats (arrests, long copies) for each precinct year to date:

Tucker - 8083 cit, 2762 arrests (432 felonies)
South - 4575 cit, 2897 arrests (494 felonies)
Center - 7406 cit, 2394 arrests (304 felonies)
East - 9182 cit, 2111 arrests (241 felonies)
North - 6360 cit, 1524 arrests (122 felonies)

So, Tucker was 2nd in both categories and 2nd in felony arrests, and the Precinct Commander gets demoted.

Looks like East needs to stop worrying about harassing the motoring public and start locking up some REAL perps. Doubtful any command staff their even know how.

Anonymous said...

Let me get this straight. Two DeKalb County veteran police majors were demoted. Each has worked for the department for over half of their respective lives. Although I do not agree with this decision, I can remotely understand it. I only have one question...Why not Major Anderson?

Anonymous said...

There is no difference in the high mind making decisions of the police department than the stuff that comes out of the grinder at the Hormel weiner factory......it both looks like shit.

To take very good officers and make mush out of them is something that this department has built a reputation on and worse everyday.

What a waste of talent. This is the mindset of Chief Embezzlement Oficer and his high ranking dingbats.

Anonymous said...

Come on troops quit whinning about Fore and Williams. The fact is they are both nice guys who like to get out and ride around and respond to police calls with the troops. The other fact is that they should be back at the precinct performing management duties. Williams is not capable of those duties and never should have been promoted to begin with. Fore was to insecure to make any decisions. Either way its a done deal and now maybe they can get on the street and police in their comfort zone.

Anonymous said...

Major Anderson has been grated IMMUNITY by telling it all on TEBO I mean hell she should have been gone when the other outsiders left but she is allowed to remain here over people who have earned their way through this God forsaken county! She needs to go NOW!!! how much is a MAJORS take home pay? someone please start a MAJOR WEAVE fund and get her damn weave tightened up!!

Anonymous said...

United we stand, divided we fall, who’s foolish of them all.

Anonymous said...

Fore sure didn't know how to make decisions. What was he thinking two weeks ago when he went on Center's channel and asked them if they needed any help answering 911 calls because half of Center's officers were 10-6 on a barricaded suspect? What kind of management do you call that? Offering help to a neighboring precinct? How indecisive and incompetent can you get?

Fore and Williams get on the street form time to time and that's a bad thing? Are you serious? Are you suggesting there's a pile of paperwork that's been sitting in their inbox for a week, but they ignored it and went out to answer calls instead? In my experience, paperwork and admin work gets handled just fine in the precincts. It's the aides of the higher ups and peeps in downtown Decatur slacking off on getting stuff done.

Anonymous said...

Why is it that when individuals get near the end of their careers they abruptly start derailing others livelihood under false pretense? No good will prevail from bad. I’m sure the newly appointed majors will do fine but was it really necessary or was it because one has the authority to do so. History has shown success comes from bottom up. Your troops are watching carefully and are very dissatisfied.

Anonymous said...

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Major Anderson hired from Atlanta with an appointment as major? If so, she has no merit rank to be demoted to (captain) if she never held any of the lower merit-protected ranks.

If I am wrong, I apologize. But, this is the only logical answer I can come up with.

Anonymous said...

Wow! Based on Tucker's stats, looks like Fore should have received a promotion.

Management decisions are made by the managers, not the widget makers. As arrogant as that sounds, that's the way it is. You must take personal responsibility, better yourself, get into the position to be a manager and then you can be the one who calls the shots. Then you can be the recipient of the name calling and second-guessing that's done here.

The Majors who were demoted were both damn good people, but maybe they were not really good Majors. You see the decision from your perspective and Chief Yarbrough and the other managers see it from their perspective. Sorry guys but two stars trumps two stripes.

My guess is that you also second-guess the LT or Sgt who moves you from one territory to another because of your poor performance. You fail to see the reason why you were likely moved-poor performance. But instead, you call the LT or Sgt a poor leader or manager, or a kool-aid drinker (my favorite).

Were there moves, promotions, demotions, etc. made in the past based on friendships, race, gender? Absolutely! Will it go on in the future? Absolutely! Is it the case here? Unlikely. Get over it, move on and better yourself so you will be the shot-caller in the future.

Anonymous said...

To anon 10:35: your'e talking about being the "shot caller"? Are you kidding? I have my sites set on being the one who pours the Kool-Aid . Anybody know how you go about applying for that position?

Anonymous said...

To 12:03

You have already drank the kool-aid. But your kool-aid is the negative crap that has infested this site. Think about it!

Anonymous said...

"Management decisions are made by the managers, not the widget makers."
The fact is that most of the managers in the PD were not even good widget makers. All the real cop's cop bosses are long gone since 2000.

Tell me how would the rookies on the blog know what type officer any of the managers in this dept were on street. I put my pension on any one of the Chiefs, Majors and Director that any one of them made more arrests, wrote more tickets, handled more calls than you whiners ever thought about. If you have time to whine as you do on this blog everyday the story on you is a closed book. Keep looking up and failing promotion tests Bud.

First of all the comment in quotes above is complete BS and I have every current or near current big wig in mind when I say this and second, what make you so sure rookies are saying this? I assure you I'm no damn rookie.

Anon 6:53 pm you are a rookie in thinking slug, shut up. The blog is all you have Bud.

Let's post the resume of some of the "shot callers" and yours side by side. Chances are yours would be very one-dimensional. Let's see - Yarbrough - MPO, Sgt, Lt, Capt, major, asst chief. Also, swat, bomb squad, commander of multiple units, asst Prct commander. One justifiable shooting where a perp was terminated. I'm guessing he's been around the block a couple of times and has earned his bones. He is going to make decisions that will not appeal to everyone or even make sense to everyone. They will make sense if you see them from his perspective.
But make sure you only look at it from your perspective that way you will have a very shortsighted viewpoint.

Feel free to post your credentials and let's see where the experience is.
