Chief O sums it up in the article:

"It is reprehensible that this former lieutenant chose to violate the law instead of upholding it," DeKalb Police Chief William O'Brien said. "It is acts such as this that undermine law enforcement's efforts to maintain public trust."

The article states if anyone has information about Government corruption to call the FBI special agent in charge over this investigation. Let's all call and everyone can tell what we know about Vernon. Look at what he did to us! It is time for him to go down. I will call what about you?

Willie D., you tarnished the badge and embarrassed yourself. Hope it was worth it, probably not. Glad you were found out.

Good what did you expect he was one of the corrupt cronies.

Does anybody know if there will be more officers indicted from franks case ?

Good old government corruptness at its best. It is a damm shame that a few miserable bastards such as these two can really screw up a department. This has happened all over the world, and why would Dekalb County Georgia be any different?

Of course, we as Americans have to assume that these kind gentlemen are innocent until the Federal Courts prove them otherwise (which we all know deep down they are guilty as sin) and take a wait and see attitude.

Granted, it is a shame to see this kind of bullshit to happen, but this is the American way of doing things.

Hopefully, the DCPD and all of the other L.E. in the county will keep going straight and we will not see anymore of this nonsense in the future.

Have a nice day !!!

That's a question better answered by Don Frank...... he and the Fed are holding the cards.

I'd bet my check there are more that are a little nervous about this recent turn of events....

Durrett and Frank are small fish... the Feds don't waste time on the little fish...they're after fish that you mount and hang on the wall.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. My observation is that anon7 is correct that the feds use the small-fish to witness against the big-fry by offering immunity or reduction of charges or time. Unfortunately I fear it will not work in this case. Good ole' Vern was just too smart to allow a subordinate know anything of value of his transactions without some form of control over the subordinate to keep their mouth shut.
On the subject of corruption and fraud among county employees; about a year before I retired, I had an interesting conversation with a pair of DKPD detectives about a hypothetical scenario. If I could plan the perfect bank robbery. No one gets hurt or killed and I get away with several million without being caught. I would only do it once, would it be worth it?
There answer was no, I would always be looking behind my back for possible pursuit and apprehension.
Good advice.
Any county employee thinking about fraud or criminal activities on the job should consider that they will most likely get caught, prosecuted and jailed.
And for what? 70 grand was the most I ever heard about an employee receiving from fraud or corruption. This one particular case involved a manager supporting a cocaine habit through stealing cash sent in from her clients for child-support payments. After two years her clients started complaining and the DA performed an investigation. She was arrested and charged. A year later I was descending down an elevator at the courthouse when the lady in question boarded, radiant with a broad smile. I knew exactly what had happened. She had a deal. We made small talk and I discovered she was a waitress at a restaurant. I thought to myself, was it really worth the loss of your career and a 50 grand a year job to steal to support your fracken' drug habit?
Later I found that her sentence was 2-3 years of probation, a drug rehab program and complete restitution of the missing 70 grand. She got off easy.
It's just not worth it, Mates!

Don Frank plead guilty and he's still out too. Don't think for one second that means Durrett did no wrong.

Durrett was found guilty. Put that in your crack pipe and smoke it!
