Of course this makes sense so we can continue to pay terminated employees hired by the BOC a $100,000.00 bonus for their sexual harasment and criminal activity. In addition we have to continue to give the BOC staff a $500.00 a month vehicle bonus AND a take home vehicle for the record number of call out situations they encounter. Raise that KITTY Mr. racist Radar, you may need it for your next corrupt land deal.

Lord help us all! Just when you think things can't get much worse-oops! here comes another one. It will take a miracle to pull us out of this mess. Worse than a soap opera. Stay tuned for the next episode...

Where are they getting the loan from? We hioe it is not from our pension and we still never found out if the $43 million from the botched early retirement was a loan and if so what the terms were do we?

Dekalb County is on an unsustainable fiscal path. Everyone know's it except the bureaucrats running the county, who keep spending money on BS. The new furniture for the new commissioner rings a bell. Why the hell should the old commissioner be allowed to buy her county office furniture at a discount or at all for that matter, causing me the tax payer, to foot the bill for the new Bozo's stuff. Get the picture on this one example? Democrats, can we afford them anymore?

Do you think we might be able to talk Clark Howard into coming out to have a little sit-down w/these BOC members & the rest of the wrecking crew? He has good information about "borrowing money" but I don't think they would really get the picture. My gosh! No telling where this is going to end. Can you just imagine the things we DON'T know yet? little tid-bits just keep on coming...will this madness ever end?probably not!

OK all of you guys that are so smart that you think you have all the answers, here is something to chew on, YOU DON"T KNOW JACK.
First Tax anticipation notes are COMMON in the world of Government.
TAx bills are going out later this year due to changes made by the state and you borrow against the anticipate revenue. No conspiracy here but I know that does not matter to this group..
The Pension loan is being repaid at a rate of 7.5%, which by the way is an outstanding rate for your pension fund. But don't let the facts confuse anyone here.
And if you think DeKalb is the only place that is struggling during these economic times take the time to do some reading.. Even our neighbors to the north the holy grail of Cobb and Gwinett are feeling the pinch. But then that would be asking too much of you guys to actually try to find out FACTs before you spew your venom here.

We have a lot of bright people posting on this BLOG.

I wonder where they are in the rank structure?

The know it all of he department.

Freeze all promotions and hiring and let what officers we have do the job. Give them a raise and they will do the job.

From Anon @ 8:32 PM..."The Pension loan is being repaid at a rate of 7.5%, which by the way is an outstanding rate for your pension fund. But don't let the facts confuse anyone here."

Maybe if the county govt and the pension board would ever make such information known, there would not be so many rumors about. Dekalb County has never been known for getting the facts out to quell problems. I hope the 7% loan from the pension is accurate but the pension board should have never give the BOC money for the screwed up early retirement anyway. Yes, there are very smart people on this BLOG....who are smart enough to be persistant enough to get the right information from people who are known for keeping us in the dark !

10:55. Excellent point. Communication. One of the most basic, simple, easy concepts, yet so many fail miserably in this area. It's all in the leadership. The culture could be changed - SHOULD be changed. But I think Mr. Ellis is too busy trying to make sure he gets re-elected, and protecting his cronies, to be concerned about this fundamental deficit - maybe his successor will GET IT.

Communication and leadership. The two things that DeKalb has almost none of at the moment. Integrity is another that is gone as well.

This place is going down fast and they, the BOC and CEO, know it. When the ship is sinking what is the first thing people do.... grab all the valuables they can and make a run for it.

If times are so tough why doesn't Ellis give back some of the $100,000 RAISE that Vernon gave to himself (the CEO position) in his second term? Tell me why are they hiring back all the retired idiots for huge sums of cash and then they do nothing but 'consult' with the CEO? Why do the leaders continue to funnel obscene amounts of money to contractors, vendors and consultants that provide useless and unneeded services?

Well, if the ship is sinking and you only have two hands to grab stuff... the best way to get more is to call in your pals to help carry.

To 4/18 8:32 Anyone who keeps up w/current events knows that we in DeK. are not the only one going through financial woes. However, WE don't live in these other counties - we live right here in the middle of a financial crisis brought on by those in office making bad judgment calls and using no intelligent business sense whatsoever. If you live in DeKalb, one would think you would be as concerned as most of us who read and comment on this blog. Or maybe you are just one of "them" so if the shoe fits, wear it.Maybe with your infinite wisdom you may be able to offer some new ideas that have yet to be heard.

It's apparent to me there are DeKalb County residents posting on here and expressing their disgust with county leadership. Hmmm. Okay then. I look forward to hearing from all of you when the next round of elections come around speaking out loudly and influentially against the current crop and campaigning for a highly qualified (business-oriented) candidates. If a candidate's background includes a law degree, then I'm against it. Teaching degree, I'm against it. Only solid business degree and successful business experience will be one of the most important qualifications that will have my interest at all.

We'll see. Please impress me.

Thank you Commissioner Boyer, Bob Lundsten, Reps Mike Jacobs & Tom Taylor. I know you all worked very hard to make this happen.

"Jacobs and Taylor also achieved passage of a bill creating a special tax district for police and public safety. Its purpose is to keep the county chief executive from moving money from police services to the county general fund.
“Whatever number they come up with for the police budget,” Taylor said, “can’t be touched by the CEO unless the commission votes to change it.”
The measure was sought by the county commission in the ongoing struggle with the chief executive over spending. As the law now stands, the commission sets a budget, but the chief executive, Burrell Ellis, controls the spending as he sees fit.
This is not a tax increase but instead a big victory for public safety,” said Commissioner Elaine Boyer, “Protecting our citizens is one of the primary functions of a county government. Now the remaining county departments will have to compete for the remaining general operating funds in the county budget.”
County tax bills already have a separate line for fire services and now will have one for police."
