Joining The F.O.P. Just Got Easier

The DeKalb FOP has been highly visible fighting for our officers. This has sparked incredible interest from rank and file officers to join and participate in this noble organization. One little thing has held many officers back... dues.

The Executive Board has been working for months on different options to lessen the burden of once-per-year dues payment. You now have three options: 1) the traditional check/money order, 2) monthly bank draft (ACH), or by 3)credit card through PayPal. To take advantage of these options, just click the "Become a Member" tab to the left to get started.

The DeKalb FOP is on the move. Come aboard and get involved!

SERIOUSLY...? What have they EVER accomplished for Dekalb Officers?

Jeez. There's always one in the crowd. 10:16 - why don't you go to the president who has had many meetings w/county, attends boc mtgs, etc and ask him. and stop being so negative.

The FOP President has been fighting the goog fight for us, D.K.P.D. for quite sometime. He attends the B.O.C. meetings and speaks on our behalf. If you don't want to join at least attend the meetings and see what he has to say. This is a chance for us to unite right here right now.

I am a long time gone but the FOP helped make the county pension strong but the org is only as good as the members, join be active or just bitch.

Maybe the FOP does keep contact with the BOC, but what has been accomplished? The BOC sits, listens and then tells Wiggs whatever gets him out of their offices. They then go right back to sticking it to us. The FOP has no teeth, so they have no power. Meetings mean nothing unless some positive change occurs.

Question:

A South officer was recently in an on-duty shooting.....his PBA lawyer was on scene before IA and Major Felony.... Does the FOP legal package provide that type of service?

I have the full FOP legal package, but I'm not sure they provide that type of service.

The FOP has been visible....but, they have been ineffective in protecting us FROM the BOC and the county. I'm starting to rethink my membership.

Just saying.....

Jeff works very hard speaking on our behalf. The more people that back him the more pull he'll get with the BoC. Unless your willing to get up in front of the BoC Anon 10:16 stop being a critic.

AGAIN... WHAT have they ACCOMPLISHED?

More than any other organization out there. I see the FOP president speaking at almost every meeting. What the hell are you talking about?

If you want to be fully protected from the BOC then move to another county and quit your dekalb co job.

Lets face it, the people of Dekalb voted these people in, which is a direct reflection of many of our citizens.
If you dont like the BOC then move to a county where the voters have half a brain.

anon 10:16: If your not with the F.O.P, I seriously hope you've got some sort of extra legal package / aid.

Otherwise it's like screwin' w/o a condom.

imho, F.O.P membership is worth its weight in gold.

The reality of the situation is this gentleman. Jeff is doing everything he can but without a large membership, 51% or more of Dekalb officers the FOP has little influence. If the FOP had 51% or more of Dekalb officers they would have a strong voice and real leverage with the BOC. Unity is power, if we cannot come together for our pension we might as well turn off the lights and lock the doors. That thin blue line we like to talk about does not exist anymore among most of us and this is why we are in the position we are in. We can’t even agree to disagree anymore. The majority of the posters on this site criticize and tear each other down and that makes me disgusted to even wear the same uniform as they do. Everyone is so worried about themselves rather than each other and our mission. Lead, Follow or get the hell out of the way.

Just wondering if they are gonna be there if I'm involved in an incident where the county tries to shaft me .... One thing is for sure you better not get involved in a 41i where its the other driver's fault because the county and TSU will sure as hell put the screws to you....

That's the biggest fear I have!!

You want to know why the BOC and CEO does not listen to the FOP President cause he does not have our backing he sits at the meetings with no backing from officers so stop this bitching about what do they do join up so they can do something for this department. you want somebody to help us. But when smebody tries we bitch about instead of coming together.

The problem is not the FOP it is the rank and file PD, Uniform and CID. You all sit back and complain and expect one guy,Wiggs, to foot the entire bill. If you want some teeth in your eforts to stand up against the BOC, stand up for yourselves for once and attend the BOC meetings with Wiggs. Show some support for what you need. You guys should see how the FOP operates up north. They have pleanty of support in the big cities and even in smaller jurisdictions. The BOC counts on your sparce support for any organization that goes to bat for you. I support you guys but really, you guys are a pathetic example of fighting for your rights.

Why should I join the FOP? Tell me what you are going to do for us other than sponsor a trip to Washington? We need an organization that is going to really fight for us. I say we need bill boards on the highways advising people what kind of county that they are entering, we are under paid, under staffed, undermined and led by corrupt politicians! We need to go on the offensive ! Start showing up at the BOC meetings with some real questions, embarrass these idiots! Enough with this wimp mentality, They want to do a study we need to do our own studies such as audits on some of these politicians. We need to reach out to the neighborhood associations and the business communities and get support! FOP please......

Look. The BOC can only do so much too - with the veto power in the hands of lil vern. Ask FOP about the bill that protects your budget from getting raided. What have they done?? Probably protected JOBS. Just sayin...

Dude, get off your duff! Why don't you head down to the BOC and meet with the PBA or IBPO.... oh wait, they're not there!

FOP membership is growing in DeKalb County. Why? Because it's the ONLY organization fighting for us!

So, if you're going to be ignorant of what is going on around you, keep your snipes to yourself.

More BS rhetoric... The question still remains unanswered because everyone knows they have accomplished NOTHING.

The one poster did more years ago when starting a ticket strike then any FOP member ever conceived of accomplishing.

As stated above, most everyone seems to be looking for someone else to take the lead here. You need to look over O.C.G.A. §45-1-4 and consider doing something yourself other than griping about it here.

"The Georgia Whistleblower Act (“the Act”), was enacted in 1993 for the purpose of eliminating fraud, waste, and abuse in state programs and was designed to protect those persons making complaints or disclosures from
reprisals."

"Georgia law protects public employees who disclose an alleged violation of or non-compliance with any federal, state, or local
law, rule or regulation pertaining to the possible existence of any activity constituting fraud, waste, and abuse in or relating to
any state programs or operations. Any public employee who reports a potential violation shall be free from discipline or
reprisal from his employer, unless such disclosure was made with false and reckless disregard."

http://www.files.georgia.gov/OIG/Files/Whistleblower%20Protection.pdf

While the BOC apparently dismisses what their employees and citizens have to say about wasteful spending, the OIG, WILL listen, at the State level, and you are protected by STATE LAW from reprisal.

If the OIG's office began hearing/seeing/reading all of the wasteful crap the BOC is handing out, alongside the cuts being made to Public Safety, don't you kind of think maybe, just maybe they just might open a file and start looking into things?

FOP... I'm frustrated by the county like everyone else but, I do appreciate the time and efforts of the FOP/Jeff Wiggs.

I think everyone if just frustrated that there isn't the "silver bullet" when it comes to defending us against the BOC.

The BOC is emboldened by the recent moves by states like Wisconsin to reign in extravagant benefits to public employees. Yes, they did have extravagant benefits and I don't think the governor's making then contribute to their pension is unreasonable. The problem we have here though is the fact that WE DO CONTRIBUTE TO OUR PENSION! The employees of Dekalb are not the freeloaders who were protesting up North.

I don't think anyone minds paying their FAIR share....we just don't want to pay more than that and be used by the BOC....

Unfortunately for the FOP, because they are out front fighting for us, they take the brunt of the frustration.

Still a member and I have been to BOC meetings to show the flag......and still will.

Just a thought, but maybe this blog should go on strike until a lot more officers attend meetings with Wiggs and show a strong, unified front in person.

Look at it this way, if you have an outlet to bitch and moan without actually taking a stand, putting yourself out there and taking action, then a lot of people will just take the easy route, keep their heads down and mumble criticisms to blow off steam.

NO... The FOP will NEVER openly plan or support the only thing the BOC understands which is obviously money. This blog has been much more effective at organizing ticket slowdowns, etc. Step up and show us something or stay off this blog FOP and go and plan your next barbecue.

Yea!!! Cuz look how much "The Blog" has done for us so far... Makes the Department look like a bunch of whining and complaining sissies! You moron, what other organization has "stepped-up"?

ok, I said it before, lets all pull together with the PBA,FOP and all other pro-police organiations. lets get the community, faith base institutions, retired pd, media, civic groups. lets have a candle light prayer vigil. Let's tell the BOC to protect public safety so we can protect the County. 7% cross the board pay raise and a 3% yearly raise, for the next 4 years.

I promise if the BOC and CEO supports this measure we will clean up the streets , bring in revenue and make this a better place to live, work and play.

Damn it we got to work together or we will not win at all. blog master you have the power to make this happen.keep it going.
