According to Larry Winkler’s wife Ann and their daughter Jennifer, test results are not good and the family has made the decision to remove Larry from life support.
This is a difficult decision for any family and they need all the prayers and support we can muster up.

Rest in Peace.... my prayers and thoughts are with Officer Winkler and his family.
Best wishes to the family at such a time. I'm not familiar with this particular man or his condition, but I've been through the same things with loved ones and can attest that it's never easy. Good luck to you all.
That is very sad. Did he pass on or is he still fighting?
Larry is a retired Dekalb Sergeant that worked the North precinct area for many years mostly on the morning watch. He was a good supervisor always there for his officers, always friendly with a jovial smile. Part of the old school team that always was there when a bad call went out and made the time to speak with you when you had a problem. He lost a college aged daughter in a car accident several years ago, which I think he took real hard. Part of an era of stand up guys that were really too good for this county. God bless you brother, you are all in my prayers ...
Sgt Winkler was definately one of the old school and was always there for you if you needed help. On a call or personal, it didn't matter. Alot of Supervisors Sgt and above who are currently working could have learned alot from him. It would be a good place to work then, think about it folks. God bless you Larry RIP, prayers to the family.
Wink leaves behind many happy memories, the radio room was always happier when he was on duty. He made sure that we all stayed awake and on our toes. Jokes just seemed to be a way of life when he was on duty....thanks Wink! RIP, you deserve the peace. Prayers for his family, the days will be most difficult, God will see you through them.
Larry was one of the best officers and probably the best sergeant that I ever had. I feel bad that he is gone and his family is my thoughts and prayers.
