Chief Is Catching Some Heat....And So Will We

Looks like the chief is really catching some heat from the BOC. It's not the chief's fault we are in this predicament, it's the Gang of 8. But if the chief is catching heat, then you can bet we will too.

The commissioners are the ones that chose to cut our pay and our benefits. They are the ones that chose to ignore the Georgia State University study, which could save the county millions of dollars. Oh, and by the way, the commissioners, especially Boo-rail have tried to hide the study. Here it is for your reading pleasure.

Burrell Ellis is the one that chose to give his staff exorbitant pay raises and car allowances, while making us work holidays for no pay, then eventually furloughing us.

Boo-rail, and his gang, including bad check writing Sharon Sutton, are the ones that took us for fools and for good little lap dogs. They forget, like Jeff Wiggs of the F.O.P. says, we are the ones that keep the citizens of DeKalb safe. Don't take us for granted!

This is heating up. We are going to feel pressure from the command staff like never before. Remember some simple rules. Do not use county equipment, including the internet for anything other than county business. Know the manual. We can't stress harder, join the F.O.P. or P.B.A. and opt for the legal defense. The command staff will be looking to make an example out of somebody.

Some are throwing Derwin Brown's name around. For those of you who knew him and where around while he did great things for us, ask yourself; would he approve of us laying down at the feet of the commission? Or would he expect us to fight for what is right?

You know the answer. You saw how the county treated his family after he was gunned down.

This is going to be a hard struggle. Again we say; stay strong, stay united!

"D" Brown and I were in the 14th Basic Academy class together and we were close friends. He would NEVER roll over for ANY County Commissioner. Rather, he would speak up against all the B***S***, just as he spoke up against Dorsey !!!

New uniforms look GREAT guys haha

Keep your recorders handy guys/gals. Despite policy it violates Constitutional Law to be prevented from protecting yourself from such illegal orders of ticket quotas. Be strong, be honorable, be a P.O.S.T. Certified Officer and not a Dekalb BOC lackey.

Time to separate the men from the boys and see who has the personal fortitude to stand for what's right. The weak ones will break quickly but that's war ladies and gentlemen.

Remember: you can't get into trouble for writing a warning, unless it is an accident or some other serious event. Keep the number of po's high, make arrests (State Court arrests on warrants work too) and issue warnings. Let these clods go before the camera and admit that it is the revenue-collecting long copies that they want. This is gonna get reeeaaalll interesting.

As an outsider looking in.......and in looking at this blog as a spectator........for such a hot button issue.....pay, benefits, pension.......it looks like a total of 5 maybe 6 officers showed up to support Mr. Wiggs.

5 or 6 out of what ??????????? 700 sworn officers?

No one was there to hoot and holler in support of Wiggs?

PATHETIC. Not to mention the other couple 1000 county employees who also have a pony in this show.

You all come off as weak and willing to take it. That is why the BOC is dumping on you all.

Ive always said some of the biggest ------- are cops. This proves it.

Stay united? Yeah right. You all cant even get together to attend a BOC meeting and support your spokesperson.

Thank you Jeff for your efforts and fighting for us. You are among the true heros for our cause.

Can someone post the BOC meeting schedule?

dkpd cracks me up. bitch and complain on a blog but no one shows up at the boc meetings to support their cause. Look in the video all empty seats and one lone fop supporter at the podium. Way to go dkpd, talk talk talk hide behind a blog with " anonymous name" sad. I hear your pain about the boc messing with you but if you dont show up at the meetings what good is it. Could you imagine if 300 officers showed up to a city meeting all the headlines you would get. How intimidating that would be for the boc. But nah stay at home an complain on blog and write bs warning tickets , be a reactive police officer. sad sad sad , one fop guy all by himself come on guys be for real.

Pack a BOC Meeting...... that needs to be organized or pushed by a central figure or an organization ...... by the Chief, by the FOP, by the PBA or all three..... officers on duty were sent to the summer employer appreciation party to make it look like spending money on that was a good move... heck, have ICP, NET and two officers from each precinct be assigned to attend.

I'm Ron Burgundy? said...

On a serious note....I'm in support of standing up against the BOC. We need to organize a united front and pack out the Maloof Auditorium during an upcoming BOC meeting.

So here's my incentive: FREE BEER.

If we can get a group of 100+ officers to commit to attend the next BOC meeting (in uniform) then Ron Burgundy will make sure everyone leaves with a cold brewski in their hand. Hell, we could all walk across the street and have a good 'ol fashioned choir practice in the parking deck if you want...

There is no ticket quota, and if you see otherwise report this to the state.

Stand strong Dekalb Police employees.

Anon 9:31 please get off this blog and never return. First of all, a good majority of us are working when the BOC meetings are taking place. If they occur on an off day and I can attend, I will. Currently my days do not fall on the days of commission meetings. Second, the comissioners have a long history of not listening to employees even when they do attend. The county also has a history of intimidating anyone who speaks up...just ask anyone who's been injured on duty and been out of work for an extended period and had the gall to raise their voice. It's so easy to sit back and judge isn't it? Third, the pressure is ultimately going to have to come from the citizens in this county if anything is ever going to change. If they keep voting these same people in over and over, then they have nothing to be accountable for and will just stay the course.

Anonymous said...

What you people don't understand is that we could pack the next BOC meeting and it would do no good. These thugs believe that it is their RIGHT to RULE, not govern. They are gonna bilk the county for all that they can get and the officers be damned. The only way to get through to these crooks is in the wallet.
Jeff Wiggs is doing all he can, but if he gets too far out of line, he will get smacked. Since Georgia is right to work and we are prohibited by law from striking, we have no other method to use except warning tickets. It will get ugly before it gets better, but if we hold the line, this will work.

Anonymous said...

I always vote in every election and one reason I do is you can't bitch about the way things are done if you don't. Out of seven hundred Officers there should be a hell of a lot more at every meeting and those who don't attend shouldn't post here at all

Anonymous said...

The reason most of the officers cannot attend BOC meeting is due to working extra jobs to support their families because the pay is so low!

Anonymous said...

its funny you say 5 or 6... it wasnt even that many. Obviously the chief was there, his asst was there, and the few others are actually assigned to the security detail at the building. So really it was no uniform officers your right pretty sad

Anonymous said...

You know I have spoken to a few of the command staff, and just FYI they think we the (10) hour employee are being scewed. So I will continue to do my job until I see how this plays out. I watched the BOC meeting and have to say Chief OB stood up for us, not to mention Little Larry and Boyer were not very happy with our new HOUR director. On the other hand I am very I'm disappointed in Lil Vern, as well as our Public Safety Director they could have prevented all of this. Let's wait and see what happens.

Anonymous said...

The next election will be interesting now that the BOC and CEO are complaining about the number of tickets being written, not actual traffic safety.

Anonymous said...

Make sure you use our policy manual to your advantage just as they try to use it against you. For example: On a domestic call a back-up unit AND supervisor WILL respond. When was the last time that happened? You want to play by the ruleS Alpha Hotels then GET READY.

Anonymous said...

Ni kidding... And when you get hurt because your backup was out writing BS tickets and the county refuses to pay your medical bills make sure you have that radio tape and policy handy for your attorney.

Anonymous said...

When and IF you get a gold badge, let us know if you have enough time to complete all the J2, answer calls from your officers, handle complaints, fill out evals, check/ approve/deny vacation requests, deal with assignments sent down from on high....., update the watch list, keep up with the units you're supervising that watch, etc.....

Trust me, the supervisors are in the same boat with more to worry about. I'm not sure if 5% is enough compensation for the additional headaches.

Anonymous said...

Based on your attendance.....the BOC has you all by the -----!

New guys I can understand....they just too stupid to know whats going on.

You Vets.............What??????? Afraid your gonna lose your tit assignment?

Anonymous said...

No it's not worth it and all that can be handled while officers are waiting on units (less than an hour). If we are expected to adhere to the rules and regs so shall EVERYONE.

Anonymous said...

Haha what a shithole you guys work in, so sad.

Anonymous said...

No one forced you to take the added responsibility if you can't handle it.

Anonymous said...

Gwinnett is in a potential crippling lawsuit right now due to similar circumstances. Two people were shot to death because no other options were available due to lack of backup and support. If I'm not mistaken a punitive suit was filed as well meaning the individuals responsible will be paying from their own bank account and not the countys. Of course Dekalb will put it all on you right off the bat as we've seen again and again. Fire dept guys having to defend themselves currently because someone didn't provide 2 handed CPR on a dying patient (ridiculous). They only provided 1 handed CPR, got sued due to death, Dekalb told them to buy their own defense attorneys.

Anonymous said...

It's really hard for citizens like me to get to BOC meetings at the time they are held. But please don't think that because we don't make a physical appearance, that we're not fighting for you.
Good luck, and THANK YOU for what you do.

Anonymous said...

Why would anyone put themselves and their family's livelihood in such jeopardy for the chump change they pay you?

Anonymous said...

So far the grass is greener... Used be known as "M outta here ASAP" Will now take the name of "M gone and happy"

Anonymous said...

You guys need to get in contact with some of the recently retired supervisors. They will spill what was taking place in these supervisors meetings and it wasn't pretty or by any means legal or ethical.

Anonymous said...

Getting sued is a reason to join the FOP and legal defense plan. The county would throw you out the door as they spit on you. Protect yourself because this county will not. Know your rights and what your county manual says. I would read the damn manual from beginning to end because the county has lawyers that do. Stay safe!

i luv the dkpd excuses for not showing up" we have extra jobs" . look at your chief sitting there all by himself way to go dkpd i hope they disband your disgruntle pd. This blog is nothing but a pot stirrer and its destroying your pd cant you see that. talk talk talk stir stir stir, the blog master is ruining your pd.

Anonymous said...

That is true. Chief O'Brien is doing more for us than most of the bitchers and complainers on this blog. He shows up for the BOC meetings and fights for us as best he can. Don't give me this crap about how we can't show up and it does'nt matter because this that or the other. Some things you make happen if it is important enough to you. Most of the garbage on this blog is counter productive. What, if any good this blog does is mostly over shadowed by the constant bitching and complaining. Very negative.

The majority of the men and women at DKPD arn't complaining on here.

Not the first time the county has told public safety employees to provide their own attorney. If you read the policy you know that if you were not under the influence of drugs & or alcohol or committing a crime and are sued due to your course of duty the county will provide for your defense. I think we have seen this several times in the past few years to be the farthest from the truth. They will try to distance themselves and place the blame squarely on the officer. Other jurisdictions have backed their public safety personnel and the outcome reflected that backing. To those outsiders who want to know why more people don't speak up at the BOC meetings we know that you don't work for DeKalb. Your freedom of speech ends once you leave the podium and return to your job. Trust me we all know of cases where speaking out was not the best career decision. To Wiz Miller you are going to need two page e-mails pretty soon to allow space for all of your director titles. The title is not what makes the man.

Anonymous said...

Hey Chief, I like you but what did you say. Any Officer caught not writing revenue producing tickets will be punished. Don't know how the State of Ga. sees that but sounds like a good old quota to me.

Anonymous said...

The grass "IS" greener over here... When I get all my Vacation and Holiday pay from the county, I will tell you who I am....I would hate for them to find something, they say is missing from when I out processed , and take a couple of thousands dollars from me to pay for it. I will give you a hint. My name rhymes with,,,,, no not yet … Got to cut the grass…… O bye the way… I will be getting paid 480 Vac time and 80 hours holiday…. If I stayed , the county would have stolen 120 hours (or should I say $5000) form me next year… And to all who want to know who I am…. Who are you…..???? Sign your name tough guy……I made my statement by leaving…… Try to guess who I am…… Thanks Budda Lawn service guy hhhhaaaaaaa AKA " M gone and happy"

"M gone and happy" is'nt missed.

As a citizen and tax payer living in Dekalb County Georgia I would like to see the Dekalb County Police Department disbanded and all of its personal and assets bonded over to the Sheriff's Department.

I believe Tom Brown's Sheriff's Department would do a better job of policing the county rather than the dysfunctional tail eating police department that now exists.

Anonymous said...

To 906 PM get off of "M gone and happy's jock HHHaaaaa. As for Thomas Brown, he's an idiot who dont no how to talk english. Its sad how Dekalb's County has gone from being one of the best county to work for to the worst.... The sad fact is, everybody knows it. Even the people that still work there and are enslaved in thier mind that they have to stay...

Anonymous said...

9:52, Thomas Brown never policed a day in his life. Running a jail and running a police department aren't the same thing. His SWAT team took over 3 hours to respond to a scene where one of his deputies was shot. PD's SWAT team was there in minutes and told to not do anything by Thomas Brown because his team would handle it. Better you say?

Anonymous said...

Anon July 28, 2011 9:52 PM might be on to something since I've heard the BOC is mandated by the constitution to fund the sheriff's department as the sheriff says it must be funded. Have you heard they can work I think it is up to 20 hours of overtime per week? That's a nice boost to one's paycheck when part-time jobs are tight. And also, of course, they then earn more hours toward annual and sick time. Now you know why we don't hear the sheriff's department personnel bitching on here or anywhere else for that matter?

Anonymous said...

Dear M gone n happy

good for you, some are just jealous, as I am, that I am not in a position to leave 12 years and my age is just to much to factor to start over again. Fortunately im in a position where I dont have to stay 30 years. I have 7.5 years left of headache here and I too will be "gone n happy"

Anonymous said...

11:50, they BOC is required to fund the Sheriff, but he still has to beg them for money, so that won't solve anything. At the last commissioner's meeting, he was begging for money so he could fill the over 40 open positions in his department. The BOC has to give him money, but nowhere does it say how much.
