I guess we will find out on Tuesday if the seperate tax code for the police department is going to do us any good.

Funny-I live in Larry Johnson's district and have yet to receive that letter. For that matter, I've been trying to get Larry Johnson's office to help with an abandoned house that has fallen in 15 years ago, and is a festering pile of rats and rodents. Yet after 5 years of contacting code enforcement, snaitation, and the alleged commissioner's office....nothing.
I don't care if we close every senior center, every park, heck let's cut everything and start over. Police come first, then fire, jail, court, animal control, and so on down the line.Fully fund those absolute neccessities, and whatever is left, then the amenities. Sorry-no one moves to DeKalb for the parks. No one moves to DeKalb for senior centers.
Give me a strong police force, rapid response fire, pave some roads and I'm good. The number of taxpayers that use all these tax funded facilities is very low. The number of taxpayers that use police, fire and roads is 100%.

Maybe you should call your ICP Officer, oh thats right the only precinct that still has ICP is Tucker. The true ICP where people that had complaints about code enforcement issues, neighbor disputes, etc. could go and get the job done. Now the residents have nowhere to go, unless you live in "Tucker" to get anything done. Keep up the good work Tucker ICP glad they haven't turned ya'll into a bunch of ticket writing nazi's.

So the message from Lil Vern is if your department overspends your budget don't worry about it, we'll raise property taxes and give you more money.

Oh and how about the county shelling out $450K to finance their payday loan. Keep that money in mind when you don't get paid for a holiday.

I don't think Lil Vern and the Board of Crooks will have a problem raising property taxes because it's only going to affect a minority of the homeowners, mostly in north DeKalb. These residents are going to further subsidize the rest of the county as it slowly crumbles.

I guess north DeKalb property owners have the same options as PD: 1) Continue to take it up the ass, 2) Stand up for yourself, speak out and raise hell, or 3) Leave for greener pastures.

Dekalb is a perfect example of what happens when you elect democrats and liberals into office for a few decades....your county turns into something the resembles Detroit or Newark.
No jobs, high crime, crappy services, high taxes, crappy schools, etc etc etc.
Those who actually work and pay taxes and want to have a nice home have already created their own cities and I am willing to bet more to come.
Dekalb PD will go the way of Fulton CO PD....left to patrol the small portion on the south end.

Hey Mr. Ellis...It looks like we are facing at least three unpaid holidays (aka-furlough days) this year in your budget proposal. How about this for an idea: Furlough those employees who couldn't make it to work during the ice storm FIRST since they have already been paid for two of those days. After that, if more furlough days are needed, then move to the employees who managed to come to work during those difficult days. I still don't understand how the County could suddenly afford to pay employees who couldn't or didn't come to work. Furlough them first!

I agree with anon 835. We all came in during the snow storm, risked having our povs smashed into by some nut, while all the others stayed home. When is the BOC going to recognize the sacrifice and dedication of its' public safety employees?

Have you ever been to a commission meeting or watched it on TV. You get about 4 citizens that push for more police and the rest get up and speak up keeping rec centers open and pushing for funding on their non-profit. I live in Gwinnett and they raised our taxes out here substantially and cut back services; too. Gwinnett has private sanitation and road projects are contracted out. Have you ever heard of a DeKalb commissioner speak of anything in the long term? No. They can't seem to understand the fact that most of the officers here have made this their career.
