You want me to strap her to the hood? She'll be fine. It's not as if it's going to rain or something.

Blog Master, You did not post my comment under your attempt to mislead people as to the facts of a charge being "dropped" at the Magistrate Court level by the DA's Office, but you did post some comments alerting you to how misguided and wrong your post was. You do yourself and this blog such a disservice when you mislead people like that. Now, I would hope that most people are smarter than that, but this has deeply disturbed me for some reason. Its one of two things, you use this blog to push your opinions on people by only posting half truths and not telling the whole story, or you are too ignorant to realize how wrong you actually are about some things. Please, know what you are posting before you post it. I will not hold my breath waiting for you to post my comment or apologize for your propaganda.

How did the health benefits forum go?..... I planned on attending but, today was the only day I could take my son to Lawrenceville to get his first Cub Scout uniform and his "Tiger Scout " handbook.

I had to decide between showing the flag or making up for having to work Labor Labor. I figured one would have an impact.........

Don't feel bad, he/she rarely post my comments. Very, very selective on the comments posted.

Question.

What is DKPD's policy on purchasing, qualifying, and carrying for duty a sidearm you purchased on your own?

Anonymous said...

If you're on the Job, then look in the manual!

Anon 9:09.

I can see you on a call. You must be the one that everybody 10-25 before you get there. Did you think maybe he/she do not work for DeKalb?

No, my thought is, if they are on the Job, then they should know. If they are not on the Job, then it's none of their freaking business what kind of backup side arm I'm allowed to carry.

policy is that you may carry an off duty weapon other than anything bigger than a .40cal.. you must qualify with it once a year. You CAN NOT use your off duty weapon in place of your duty weapon. In other words if you are in uniform you can not opt to carry your off duty weapon other than your service pistol. Thats pretty much it. Oh and you have to purchase your own off duty ammo

Interesting to look at the number of DUI arrests in Gwinnett versus DeKalb on the crime mapping. Do we not have drunk drivers in our county. I saw quite a few leaving the bar the other night. Or are we just looking to write up another speeding ticket for revenue. Serious guys 4 units working one school zone. Is this great planning or what. Maybe extra SOD units at night when the drunks are out might be better use of our resources. I know you like your day hours but why does Gwinnett have so many more units on the streets at night than we do?

Look at the Calif Chief getting national coverage from being innovative. He stated that he didn't want his officers concerned with generating revenue and frees them up for real police work by utilizing traffic engineering, etc to correct dangerous intersections instead of sitting on them writing speeding or u-turn citations. Unfortunately we have NO ONE in Dekalb smart or bold enough to present such an independent innovative plan. This Chiefs true character will be rewarded on a national scale I assure you.

Its really too bad, Dekalb County was at one time a model county with a great police department having many model departments such as a state of the art EMS system, fire and sanitation departments. Through social engineering, affirmative action, busing of students, taxes and subsequent decines in the morals and responsibilibities of public officials, the demographics drastically changed in Dekalb. Businesses and people that cared and understood how to run a responsible county government fled to outer counties. At one time you could draw top people from all over the country to work here, now we scrape the bottom of the barrel to fill positions. A true discrace and loss of a once great county.

Interesting Dekalb fact: DeKalb County was created in 1822 from Henry, Gwinnett, and Fayette counties. It was named for Baron Johann de Kalb, a German soldier who fought on the side of the Americans in the American Revolutionary War. Unfortunately we will all be looking at the demise of this country in the same fashion as Dekalb County in the not so distant future.

Regarding the post concerning the health benefit meeting: Well, it was pretty sad. I can say without hesitation that Mercer Healthcare - who put together this poo - didn't really come that prepared. Also, someone from the audience pointed out that the handouts did not contain the full info regarding deductibles. I for one came out of there feeling like the Finance Dept.and Mercer were playing some sort of shell game. It was made clear that we would not get the full story until open enrollment. Plus - retiree info for people over 65 was not made available...makes you wonder what is going to happen to that group.

I asked the same question when I started...the answer I received from the Range Personell was that you are considered Joe Citizen when off duty and can carry whatever you want...there is no need to qualify...you are the same as a citizen with a CCW permit and that the Manual is vague regarding off duty carry for that reason...I carry what I want off duty...

As a third party to this blog, I would like all of these blogs to be written as if a third person was reading it. It is very hard to decifer what is being said when code signals are being used.

Not all departments have the same code signals (which would be very good in the Metro area)to where we all would know what is being discussed.

So how about blog writers, forget the codes and go back to simple english. This way, you may have more people understand what you are trying to say, and possibly back you!!

Thanks for the replies in regards to the firearm issue.

I knew you could carry what ever you wanted off duty and just qualify with a back-up. I was reading in the news about the purchase and issue of the new .40 cal weapons and it stated "Most officers in the metro area, and across the nation, carry .40-caliber handguns. Some, like DeKalb, give officers the option to carry higher-powered weapons as long as they are trained."

http://www.ajc.com/news/dekalb/dekalb-police-beef-up-282331.html

I was wondering if it was true that you could, less just say, purchase a 1911 and carry it as your duty weapon. I take it what was stated in the AJC article was misleading and it should have stated you can carry anything as your back-up or off-duty. Would that be a correct assessment of policy?

I think it is a good idea to allow officers the option to purchase their own duty weapon as long as it is approved by qualified personnel so they won't be any H-Point's out there.

Thanks!

I think that probably referred to carrying shotguns and patrol rifles in the units, not different pistol models/calibers...

An approved handgun is the Department issued handgun and ammunition, or a double action Semiautomatic
pistol in .380 ACP, 9mm, or 40 S/W. Five or six shot, two, three or four inch (2”, 3”, or 4”)
barreled revolvers in .38 SPL or .357 magnums are also approved; only department approved
ammunition will be used. Detectives will be allowed to carry for their department issued weapon,
their personal GLOCK 19 or GLOCK 26 pistol providing they meet all listed criteria.

That refers to on duty...the original poster was referring to off duty carry...

This is the original question.

So this is the correct answer.
An approved handgun is the Department issued handgun and ammunition, or a double action Semiautomatic
pistol in .380 ACP, 9mm, or 40 S/W. Five or six shot, two, three or four inch (2”, 3”, or 4”)
