Dunwoody Offically Leaves DeKalb's 911. DeKalb Seeks Bids For CAD

Just as the City of Dunwoody leaves our 911 system, DeKalb County is seeking bids for computer aided Ddispatch procurement consulting services.

Why now? Did the county think Dunwoody was joking when they said they were leaving?

Good riddence.

The County was negotiating with Dunwoody to keep providing the 911 services for them. One member of the Dunwoody City Council wanted to stay with the County but the majority was willing to spend taxpayer money in addition to the 911 telephone monthly service charges to go with Chat Com for what is promised to be better service. The Dunwoody Chief of Police was in favor of going with Chat Com.

Now the County has lost the Dunwoody telephone 911 monthly franchise fees. Either County 911 staff will have to be reduced or taxes raised to recoup the money.

Wow, does it take a consulting firm to say that there is a problem. I figured that the new 911 center director would have fixed all of the problems by now. How many more things are you gonna have to lose DeKalb in order to wake up. Heading in the direction of the once Fulton County. Just remember BOC and CEO the more territory and responsibilities that you lose the less money sources you will have for your corruption. Better fix your act or you won't be able to maximize your corruption efforts.

The county did everything to try to keep them but dial the phone. It was a sweetheart deal that anyone with half a brain would have taken. The problem is the Dunwoody Police Chief. He came from an agency who used Chatt-Comm, and he thinks that they hung the moon. So now there will be more delays in getting the residents of Dunwoody Fire and EMS protection. Not to mention that Chatt-Comm is a "private" company. If they were to go "T.U." tomorrow, they would be out of business....then what? They would have been better to stay where they were, get their own dedicated radio channel like they should have had in the beginning, and build their own center. Would have cost a lot less money than what they are pouring down down the hole now.

Anon 7:40, are you serious? The government, i.e. DeKalb County can run a better business then a private company? Really? You're just plan ignorant.

The majority is willing to spend the extra $ for many good reasons. This will give the County an excuse for getting rid of the crappy operators. There are some good ones, and I hope they keep their jobs. Hey, and what's up with your pos CAD system??

7:40 The DPD and citizens pretty much worship the ground Chief G walks on, for good reason. The only person I know who has an issue is that one city councilman, and I know what his real issue is. No one cares. Keep this crap up, and I will air every dirty little problem with Dekalb 911.

Now that dunwoody has their own 911 service maybe they can get their own blog

And anon 7:46 you obviously do not have all the facts.....

Dunwoody unlike Dekalb has enough sense to get far, far away from anything that Dekalb does. Dunwoody figured it is cheaper with less hassles and problems to deal with ChatComm than to deal with Dekalb County because of Dekalb's ineptitude.

Dekalb County is "Losersville" in many ways, and why should should the 911 system be any different from the rest of the county?

The BOC & CEO still have this one agenda: "Fill our pockets with all of that taxpayer money, use the power given to us by the voters, and let us fuck up everything"

Anon 7:40, get your facts straight. The Dunwoody Chief came from Marietta PD...they use Cobb County Dispatch. The Dekalb 911 Director came to a city council meeting and said that they could not keep to their own standards (the video was posted on one of the councilman's blog), let alone the standards set by ChatComm.
Doraville and Chamblee have their own dispatch....do they have problems contacting Dekalb for Fire/EMS?
FYI, ChatComm is the only dispatch center in Georia that is nationally certified. That speaks volumes.

Dunwoody PD will still remain on the Dekalb radio system but with their own talk groups. The only difference is that Chatcomm is dispatching them and doing the 911 calls.

So Dunwoody is still paying Dekalb County for use of the radio talk groups on the Dekalb digital radio system.

ChatComm is a regional 911 authority and is NOT private. Its a political subdivision of state government.
ChatComm is overseen by a two member board of directors, with each city manager having a single appointee. ChatComm elected to outsource the implementation, operation, staffing and management of the 9-1-1 center to iXP Georgia, LLC. Through this arrangement, ChatComm’s board and executive director will oversee a performance-based contract, which is the largest, and perhaps only, outsourcing of a 9-1-1 center in the United States.

The two primary performance requirements of the contract are 9-1-1 call answer time and call processing time. Specifically, iXP will be required to answer 90 percent of 9-1-1 calls within 10 seconds and process 90 percent of those calls for dispatch within 60 seconds. These industry benchmarks were not currently being achieved.

“ChatComm’s success relies on the constant collaboration between iXP and a technical advisory council, comprised of the public safety agency chiefs, city leadership and a representative from Rural/Metro Ambulance,” said Noah Reiter, Executive Director of ChatComm. “This working group will constantly review the performance of the operation, as well as evaluate new procedures and technology that will enhance field response and coordination.”

Why are you select few trashing Dunwoody for wanting nothing to do with Dekalb? Are you Dekalb upper management or just that jealous? Two posts regarding having to call Dekalb Fire....so what? There are cities all over this state that use county fire/ems. Get over it!!!!

WRONG! Its a public authority as Ive already said. However they choose to pay a private company to carry out some of their duties. Just like Dekalb County pays a private company to install and service the 911 infrastructure and spftware, you moron. Does that make Dekalb 911 part of a private company.
ChatComm is a regional 911 authority, its not part of a company you doofus. Its obvious you barely were able to get your GED and slither into a county job with all the other fat asses.

Dunwoody pays for its share of Dekalb Fire and EMS. That part of the county pays more COUNTY taxes than any other area.

Dekalb County govt is a total failure.

Apparently some posters cant read. Chatcomm is NOT some private company. It merely pays a company to perform some services.

Imagine that, a customer service driven organization that does a better job than Dekalb 911 could ever dream of doing.

Don't blame Dunwoody for anything. Blame Jones. His legacy is that he lost Dunwoody.

Why all the haters? It's no secret that Dekalb 911 has problems, and I've read a lot of bitching about that and the CAD system on this blog. I look forward to not getting put on hold the next time I call 911.

My opinion;
Everyone knows why Dunwoody left DeKalb County. It was not because of poor service from DeKalb government, most citizens were satisfied the Fire, Police, sanitation and the core services. What got Dunwoody citizens pissed off at DeKalb government was the lack of representation of Dunwoody citizens on the BOC. The ridiculous response by Vernon Jones and the BOC sealed the succession and proved that DeKalb politicians are afro-centric in their policies and Dunwoody citizens correct in their perception that the DeKalb BOC only cared about Dunwoody's tax revenue, not representation of Dunwoody citizens best interests.
As for the DKPD CADS system, I had to troubleshoot the CADS network many times because the first thing that gets blamed in a software issue is the network, as usual the network was running fast and nominal. What I did find was that the CADS was an extremely complex piece of software that was way beyond my comprehension and probably beyond the level of the mediocre skills of DK and DKPD IT employees.
I do not say this to insult or belittle the IT employees but to raise the awareness that DeKalb IT is in the big-leagues and offering little-league salaries and training does not produce the employee skill-sets necessary to design, implement and maintain the many complex systems inherent to support 800 thousand citizens of DeKalb.
I have watched too many of the best IT employees walk out the door for a 30 percent raise and vastly improved working environment of competitive IT organizations.
In my opinion CADS was made unnecessarily complex with unneeded "bells and whistles" that should never have been included as part of the single-package CAD system and resulting in degraded performance of the CADS, that only near genius level, high-priced analysts can figure out.
My opinionated opinion,
KenC

I live in District Three, South DeKalb and I wish I could leave DeKalb 911 myself.

Dekalb 911 at one time was pretty good...now its a joke and is a place of waste and mediocre performance.

There are many that are glad dunwoody left for chattcom. We get tired of listening to them on the radio. It sounds like a perimeter mall security radio, its embarrassing. It's funny that dunwoody wants nothing to do with Dekalb but soooooo many posts on the DEKALB OFFICERS blog are from dunwoody. Now with all their resources maybe they can start their own, I'm just saying.

At lest now when people call 911 in Dunwoody they will not be put on hold for 10 minutes like you are when you call Dekalb 911.

We won't need Dekalb 911 in ten more years with all the cities popping up to have better services. You would have to be blind to see how much better services the cities provide. We are just cut to short on the road and not enough man power. We have already lost 5 good officers to Dunwoody pd because of there better pay, benefits, take home cars etc.
