I Owe My Soul To The Company Store.......

Are they really serious? Our commissioners are so inept running a budget, they now want to resort to "payday loans." This has to be in the top 5 most stupid ideas to come out of the Maloof Building.

The county will now loan you the money to make that special purchase of appliances and such, automatically deduct it from your pay check, and will make 10% of your purchase for their trouble. Nothing but laughable.

Be sure to get the part where if you are dissatisfied with your purchase, the county will take it back from you within the first 12 months. Seriously? What will they do with the returns? Stack them up in the surplus yard to be sold to the highest bidder?

This has to be a joke, right?

Last year the BOC got a payday loan for the county because they didn't have enough money, and now they are setting up a layaway program for all the employees:

I'm sorry but this is no longer DeKalb County; this is DeGhetto County.

Anonymous said...

What?...This is supposed to be a Perk?

Anonymous said...

They are trying to pay back the 41 million they spent by error.

They will never pay that loan back.

Just wait and see what happens next.

Has the County reimbursed those who had to pay to get new patches sewn on uniforms yet?

Now I usually do not criticize our fearless leaders but this has to take the cake. Are they serious, now they want you to take out a loan so they can make 10%. Forget top 5, this is number 1.

How embarrassing to be an employee here, just embarrassing.

Anonymous said...

This is truly astonishing! You really just can’t make this shit up. But the DeKalb County BOC brings it to us in reality. You would have to be an absolute idiot to believe that this is a perk! This is a county govt. welfare program that uses the private sector to take advantage of employees who are too stupid to realize that you should NEVER buy something like a computer or a T.V. on credit at a huge markup that is borderline criminal.

What would Clark Howard think?

How much intelligent went into this new adventure? http://m.ajc.com/news/dekalb/dekalb-adds-purchasing-perk-1315359.html

This is our future leaders thinking of rewards to boost employee morale.

I'm at the bottom after this this moment.

What a great benefit!! I haven't gotten a raise in 4 years and now the county will let me buy appliances through them prices higher than retail!!

Are the assclowns serious? Do they really think this is a "benefit" to us employees??

Anonymous said...

Finally! Now I can get those 24" rims for my Caprice and that fresh M&M leather jacket i've been trying to pay for!

Anonymous said...

people who dont have credit! Why were they hired?

Anonymous said...

You have to give them credit for thinking outside the box. This is ingenues of them. They pay you so you can pay them back. I love it. Let the idiots in this county that work here do it. If it means not taking anything away from you. 10% is better than your credit card.

This is a concept of Marxism...look it up, the gov't taking care of your needs through redistribution.... My god all you have to do is take a look at the make up of this county to see that it's consumed with socialist democrats. It's all they know....Socialism at it's best.

The great experiment at work in DEKALB County. You ass clown down in Decatur have managed to go 4 yrs without a merit increase or cost of living increase while the employees have had to face ever increasing cost just to stay employed....and you dumbass come out with this Marxist IDEA.

The bad thing is some desperate individuals will jump right on board because they're blind to the reality that's sucking the life blood from them....

A very sad, sad, sad day in DEKALB County

The BOC & The CEO probably have a store run by the Feds as a sting operation in hope of getting perps. Of Course, the perps (being the BOC/CEO)are so smart thinking that this work, that they decided to see if the county employees will go along for the ride.

People, you must have learned by now that the BOC & CEO are dumber than ditchwater and common sense has never come to mind.

As it has been said many times over and over, this soap opera shows cannot this stuff as being portrayed by a writer in Hollywood.

This is not DeGhetto County, but Bullshitville, USA Lets call VJ wrecker service have it all towed away!!

Next they'll have rap music in the DKPD Recruitment video and be allowing PD Supervisors to appear in Tyler Perry movies before heading to Federal Prison. Wait, never mind...

WOW AJC!! I think you should have referred to Fran Millar as "Senator", not "State Rep". Sloppy.

Anyone know how it's working in Fulton County?

The only real question is this. Who getts what % of the kick back from the interest on the loans? There may be other details about this deal that need to be reviewed as well. First, the county furloughs the workers, then take up the insurance costs, then follow all of this by doubling the pension payments. They have created an environment whereby its own workers can no longer afford to work here. Then the county comes along and offers its workers the deal of a life time to help them when many have no other choice but to turn to the county for basic life needs. There is a possibly another name for this: collusion. Was this the purpose of the payment reductions all along? In order to get the workers into this position where big brother is now the only way out? The tax payers should have been asked to vote on this because as stake holders in the county government tax payers should be asked if they want to participate in this kind of possible corruption. Tax payers (not workers) of the county sometimes have something to say and this maybe one of them.

Let me get this right. There is not enough money to give pay for performance raises but........ there is enough money to give out high intrest loans to employees who have bad credit so they can get deeper into debt. Wow just Wow!!!!!!!!!!! People please dont fall for this.

Anonymous said...

I cant say I saw this one coming but I swear it really doesnt suprise me based on the mentality of the folks in Decatur. If they are going to do this crap then they need to open up a county chicken wing stand, a title pawn operation and have us all selling damn bean pies out of the back seat of our patrol cars!

If they really wanted to do something to raise them money to pay off the debt they need to bring in business' that employ the residents WHO PAY THE TAXES AROUND HERE. DeKalb county has to be the most hostile working environment in the southeast. Why would any business ever want to relocate here.

Seriously, I hope they drive the county totally bankrupt so that it will bottom out, they will leave for better places to steal from, and we can finally start rebuilding it from the ground up.

Anonymous said...

The next "benefit" from the county will be a car title pawn!

"Get your title back with Sutton-Max!"

Anonymous said...

"Cash Checks Here " Move the BOC to Memorial Dr. Never mind, they'd screw that up worse than it is already.

Anonymous said...

Find the missing millions from the recorders court screw up you incompetent fools. Afraid someone you know will go to jail?

Some of you people need to learn how to read and do a little research. This isn't a new program. This doesn't cost the county ANYTHING.

However, this should be a last resort option if you need to make a purchase. Save up your money and then buy your item. This program is a ripoff to the consumer much like Aaron Rents or Rent to Own type places.

Hand it to the county though, they pay you, so you in turn can buy something and have to pay them back. This is a fabulous Marxist type idea.

“We can’t give them raises, we’ve raised their insurance, and if you can’t replace your washer and dryer, you don’t know what kind of trouble that is,” Commissioner Elaine Boyer said. “I think this is something for our employees.”...What a colossal idiot. It's time for the RINO Boyer to go. Her district lost Dunwoody with her support. While not absolving the rest of the commission she was directly responsible for allowing the development they complained about. Somehow she got a pass and this is her "something" for DeKalb employees. And who introduced this great program to DeKalb; State Senator Fran Millar (R) of Dunwoody. He brokered the deal and said he will give 10 percent of his commission to help cover county costs. Wow, be still my heart. Simply another politician throwing crumbs to the little people. Why was this state senator getting a commission for signing the county up for this program? Oh by the way I really enjoyed the days I got laid off so your pet project of helping 7% of the county's population get their own city transpired. Any luck removing the "apartment people" from Dunwoody? “If this doesn’t work out, we’ll bring it back and end the contract,” Boyer said. “I look forward to trying to help our employees obtain things they might not otherwise be able to obtain.” Commissioner Boyer and other commissioners/CEO if you want to help employees: outsource all park maintenence/building maintenence, have volunteers comprise 50 % of library staff, etc.. And make a real commitment to police and fire. You might find if you and the rest of the county commission invest in the police the wealthier areas of the county will stop incorporating to escape you!

Thank GOD I escaped that shit hole when I did.

Here's what they think about you:

"The 2012 budget by DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis contains an increase of $102,000, or 6.5 percent, for his office and an increase of $165,000, or 5.8 percent, for the Board of Commissioners."

You guys are missing the point on this one. Yes they will give you a loan plus 10% interest effective payback immediately. That means they end up paying out less in the long run. Those BOC members are real slick. You got to hand it to them, real slick.
Bt the way another tebow era officer j-1 today, only 300 -400 more to go .lol

I sent an email to April Hunter explaining my position. Here is the excerpt;
"I read this story and wish to discuss several issues concerning the story.
First there is already a mechanism within DeKalb government to deal with the issue of bad credit of employees needing to buy critical appliances necessary for modern life and convenience. It is called the Peach State credit union, formerly DeKalb Employees credit union. Although it is an independent entity, it is highly integrated with DeKalb payroll for deductions to the employees paychecks for various services and accounts. Employees are encouraged to join and the Peach state credit union offers signature loans for up to five percent of the employees salary with competitive interests rates no questions asked.
The second issue is the lack of critical review of the story by the author or the editors. It is obvious to even a non-journalist that no critical thinking was put into this puff piece of financial disaster for DeKalb employees and kickbacks to the county government disguised as "commissions". Cannot the slightest bit of unethical employer exploitation of the employee be detected by the AJC author and editors?
This is not the first time DeKalb government has made money off services supplied to the employees. A close inspection of the county vending machines contracts would reveal that the county employees are providing revenue to the county as a percentage of every item they buy from a county vending machine.
For the AJC to publish such a glowing story over the exploitation of employees with bad credit histories by DeKalb government beggars the imagination end demands a proper explanation to the employees and myself.
Best regards,
Ken Choate"
I am considering sending this story to the Onion for publication as fiction.
That's just how stupid and asinine DeKalb government has devolved to. Preying on its most over-extended employees for revenue.
Best of luck guys and gals!
Time for a beer.

This didn't take long to find!

http://www.scaminformer.com/scam-report/purchasing-power-purchasing-power-a-ripoff-in-its-purest-c62677.html

"Purchasing Power is the purest form of a ripoff. They charge anywhere from triple to five times(!) as much for everyday items like microwave ovens, televisions, computers, furniture and more. They won't even let you peruse their catalog because you would be so shocked by the outrageously high (comical) prices that you would instantly close your browser window.

My company had the purchasing power flyer at work, and at first it sounded like a good idea, because there was no credit check. But therein lies the catch, and it's a big one at that. Imagine paying $30 a month twice a month for six months for something like a microwave oven you can buy locally for $79. Or a flat-screen TV at $140 a month twice a month for six months. So you would be paying about $360 for a microwave oven that retails for less than one-quarter of that, or about $1,700 for a flat-screen TV that retails for $599. How crazy is that?

Who in their right mind would agree to such ripoff prices?? As soon as I found out, I told everyone at work not to buy from these clowns that are doing nothing more than taking advantage of the poor. I had to make it know that Purchasing Power defines "ripoff." They target poor buyers who are employed with a no-credit check, but the return favor is that you have to pay five times what something is worth just for the convenience of having it shipped to you.

They take out the deductions with each paycheck, although in all fairness, they do tell you upfront how much the ripoff will be out of each paycheck. There is something suspicious about a company who won't let you look at their catalog unless you can be a confirmed employee with one of their partner companies. All I can say is stay away from Purchasing Power. Unless you like getting ripped off."

The next thing you know, the county will set up a check-cashing business and charge employees 10% more to cash their county-issued paychecks.

What a thoughtful group of 'leaders'.

Fer shizzle. That's a bottom-line truth there. And I can say this, as I live in Dunwoody.
