Is There Any Wonder Why This County Is On The Verge of Bankruptcy?

There still is 90 million dollars missing from Recorders Court with no investigation. 40 million dollars was illegally or as the commissioners are saying, accidentally taken from the county green space fund to cover the general budget.

Commissioner Sharon Barnes, a member of the finance committee is bankrupt, writes bad checks and uses taxpayer money on lavish hotel rooms.

And now we learn the chairman of the finance committee himself is bankrupt.

2 of the 3 commissioners on the finance committee are bankrupt.

The honest taxpayers of this county don't stand a chance. That's why some are called Dunwoody and soon to be Brookhaven.

You gotta love Dekalb County!

These idiots can't manage their own money, but we're supposed to trust them with ours!! You've proven you make bad money decisions, but you want us to believe you're doing a good job with money that isn't even yours?

Actually bankruptcies are running rampant among employees countywide! This does not surprise me! If you have not done your taxes yet, your take home pay changed drastically last year from the previous year! Ouch!

Not that I am one to defend the crooks that run DeKalb County, but at least he is taking responsibility for his actions. Some of which do seem to be due to simply bad luck, like his house being flooded.

It is the politicians that run from the cameras and blame everybody else for there lack of ethics that I have a tough time with, sutton...ellis... stokes, etc.

I do not agree with his politics but at least he will talk about and own up to his mistakes. Which is way better that most.....

Whata county? It is a miracle that this county is still "floating", but sinking very fast. The titanic sunk slower than this county and why is it?

Look at what has been running this county.....Nothing but stupid, egotisical maniacs who have no business in public office and want to get re-elected. They all love their President who sends them grant checks and spends it on fancy dinners, plaques, fancy hotels, and other junkets at taxpayer expense.

The phrase from the Georgia Lottery for the MEGA MILLIONS DRAWING, instead of "play on America", "watch you money go down the toilet.....DeKalb"

Bad luck? Bad luck? Opening a business in south DeKalb is stupidity, not bad luck!

Ok..everybody has to cut back....except us....BOC

georgia last in the country on public corruption laws. DeKalb must lead that for the state.

So Mister Mays is using in Commissioner knowledge and insight to invest in Dekalb County businesses in South Dekalb, and lost his ass in doing so...Good, could not have happened to a nicer guy. Welcome to my world Mister Mays living on a shitty salary. Though as hell ain't it. And yes I would say if ya can't manage your own money, how the hell ya going to manage millions that belong to someone else. Oh yea ya can't that's why the County is broke. Thanks alot guy you are the best. KEEP TELLING YOURSELF THAT MAYBE SOMEONE WILL BELIEVE IT...BESIDES YOU! You and "Obama" got more than one thing in common?????

Its not the opening of a business in South DeKalb County that is bad luck or stupidity, the stupidity is the REOPENING of a theatre that has failed numerous times over and over again. Why would you go a theatre in a Big Lots plaza, when you can go to a pretty nice regional mall.

Now as far as the flood is concerned, that beyond his control. I mean, how many of you all talking even have flood insurance?

I know Commissioner May and he is about one of the only decent commissioners on the board. Atleast he has manned up to his mistakes, and is facing the music.

So if anything, give him a break, I mean hell, he only makes $38k a year.

Do some research the only person on the BOC that has a real job is Jeff Rader. The rest of them are living on the County Dime! Mr Blog Master do some research and shine some lite on the Board of Crooks.

Is that $38k a year for a PART time job?

I commend May for willing to sit down and explain his actions without hiding from the cameras (Shelia Edwards), sending a lawyer to evade the issues (Sharon Sutton), or simply walking away saying 'no comment'.

I'm no fan of his politics but shit happens. Bad business deals, acts of God, family member gets sick, income is lost and so on.

Of course, we know this is election year and May is rumored to be running for CEO. So this sorry was obviously fed to the media with an attempt to humiliate May. We are going to see more stories like this (people who have code enforcement violations, elected officials driving with expired tags, yadda yadda-anything to embarass candidates).

Thanks Commissioner for taking time to explain your personal financial house. It took alot of courage to do so.

DeKalb is facing a BIG financial crises with the loss of Brookhaven. Elected leadership claims they are on top of the issue.
Instead of negotiating in good faith with the constituents, DeKalb government elected for legal recourse which failed in Georgia State court.
DeKalb government leadership is so truly fracked up that it believes failed legal initiatives substitutes for good government, representing and satisfying Brookhaven citizens requirements.

To the DeKalb CEO and BOC:
What the frack are you going to do now?
Let me guess. Absolutely fracken' nothing.
Did you guys really graduate from collage?
I mean really?
And this is what they teach in political science or civics? Encourage DeKalb citizens to secede by refusing to represent or negotiate with your fracken' constituents?
I suggest the majority of DeKalb political leadership immigrate to China or North Korea where the corruption and politics better fit your agenda.
DeKalb government would be better for it.

Best of luck, mates!

Speaking of wasting county resources, I happened to notice something locally the past few days that would certainly fit into that description. From what I've heard in my area (South Dekalb, near the county line), some activists from Occupy Atlanta have decided to help a woman who reached out to them for help when it became clear that she would lose her home due to foreclosure. On Thursday morning, police cars were staked out at the entrance of the road where her home is a few hundred feet away. Also, unbelievably enough, a helicopter could be seen circling the house throughout the day. Same thing the next day. This is insane! Obviously an order was given from high enough up in the chain of command to send out a helicopter for a bunch of left-wing activists who are helping some poor woman and her family about to lose their home. Whatever anyone thinks about her situation, I think we can all agree there is no justification for a police presence on something so not an emergency situation.

This ought to be brought to the attention of the Dekalb PD's leadership and the Marshals who do evictions or whomever. Too much real crime is going on around the county (like mismanagement and possibly theft of county funds) for law enforcement to be told to waste their time at one house in a South Dekalb neighborhood.

Well said LoFlyer. The Dekalb BOC are empty suits and nothing more. They have to go down in history as the absolute worst group of political "leadership" in history...of the USA. This includes the "Lost Dunwoody" administration too. What is happening is all very unbelieveable.I wish the state legislature would take over the running of Dekalb.

One can't "immigrate" from their own country. They can, however, "emigrate". And no - no one graduated from "collage" - made a few in my lifetime though. I believe most have graduated from "college". Did you? Heck, for a long time, you talked about "succeeding" when you meant "secede". Seem picky? No - just making a point.

Anon 1 PM. Yes I noticed the mistakes after posting. Doh!
I think it is only fair to offer my motivation behind what I publish on this blog. Especially my current affairs and issues.
I love DeKalb county, its citizens and employees. In '98 I moved out out because I realized that DeKalb government officially and unofficially discriminates against white males. Walking through the jail, Recorders Court and CEO/BOC offices and I was the only white guy in sight. (Stognar was hiding in his smoke filled office) For a decade I attempted to obtain EEOC employee demographic reports with no success. After retiring I pressed harder and received the satisfaction of compiling statistics that conclusively prove DeKalb government is institutionally Afro-centric in its employment bias. HR Director Ransom was shocked and promised to concentrate on hiring more Hispanics.
I spent several weeks visiting relatives and skiing out west. The trip was an eye-opener in many ways. The weather was poor, I was unacclimatized and I had lost some of my basic skills that I had to relearn.
The first thing I had to relearn is that you are responsible for yourself. When you take a nasty fall when the temps are in the single digits and wind is gusting to 40 knots. Do not expect the ski patrol or fellow skiers to find or help you. You are on your own. You can either lie in the snow and freeze, or get up, recover your gear and make your way down the mountain. At 80 bucks a day, I did not see any skier claiming entitlements or a free lunch.
One other thing that impressed the heck out of me. Driving by the city of Dillon Colorado electronic sign and it read approximately "You can make a difference! Run for an elected office!" I think I got a tingle down my leg when I saw the message. A local government encouraging its citizens to run for election. What a novel idea!
I am now planning to move out west in several years.
Colorado or Utah. Where men are men and the sheep run scared!
Best of luck, guys and gals!

He keeps getting re-elected. How much does he spend on is clothes. Invest in South Dekalb?? Are you crazy? If you frequent S. Dekalb, you should invest in a firearm. (Thomas Jefferson said we could carry one- thanks Tom) Somehow I doubt a flood led to all of May's problems. Opening a movie theater in S. Dekalb is like opening a BBQ Pork trailer in Iran...good luck.
Well dressed idiots...Yall keep voting them into office FOOLS. Glad I retired!! Dekalb County...Still making the 6PM news fun.

After 40 years in DeKalb, I'm leaving. Government is an embarrassment. Why hasn't our DA called in the feds as the Gwinnett DA did?
