How Can This Happen!?

This is outrageous! Shane Wilson was responding to a call out, making him on duty, killed by a drunk driver, and that's not good enough to have his name placed on the Georgia Police Memorial?!

Here is the contact information for Governor Deal. Everyone needs to write him and express their outrage. Hopefully the F.O.P. will write Governor Deal an open letter.

Unfreaking believable!

How does being called from your home in the middle of the night to go to a call not count as on duty?
What a ridiculous modern world of bureaucracy we live in...

This was an egregious decision to be sure, but it WILL be rectified. Nothing can change the unjustified decision that was made, but what CAN be changed is the outcome. My prayers will continue to go to the family in the meantime - the loss of your loved one was felt not only by his law enforcement family, but by the community for whom he gave his life - we love him, appreciate him, and miss him.

This was disgraceful. It makes you question everything your leaders decide makes sense to them.

Things like adding his name to that memorial mean a lot to the his folks and to us (his police family). Why should it have to meet some strict critera in the first place. I personally agree that his name should be added to the memorial wall. That young man obviously died in the line of duty en route to a call. If his name is not added, were all the other officers I have known who died en route to calls not added as well? Its not like he was off duty and slipped in the shower or something. Please Gov. Deal, reverse this poor decison. Remember, its about his family, and he came from a long line of law enforcement officers who would willingly stand in harms way to protect you and the citizens of this state.
