This blog page was established so DeKalb County Police Officers including their family and friends may have a place to hold discussions, post news and vent without fear of retribution.
Any one with any sense has already found other employment since we all saw this coming years ago.
Ive been saying it for a long time now. With a mounting 40 million dollar budget deficit and the CEO's complete distaste for public safety and the ongoing mis-management of finances this proved to be inevitable. I just hope those of you who were smart have a decent agency picked out and are ready to move on if you havent already. Im sure the county wont make the same mistake twice so you wont have to expect them buying out the early retiree's like they did last time but rather laying off the rookies with at most 3 years or less time on the road and cancelling any and all current or future academy's. They lost way too much money when they had the early retirement bonanza last time which hurt them bad. North Precinct itself has been talked aout being closed down for years so thats no surprise that hen the noose tightend it was the first to go. But you can but your bottom dollar that by next summer at the latest there will be some pin slps going out.Best of Luck
Why not spread the officers to the other precincts? Each precinct is hurting manpower-wise, and using North to beef up the ranks elsewhere is good sense. Of course, Mr. "Racist Vernon Suck Boy" Stogner let the layoffs balloon go to create some panic, for what, nobody knows. Take the command staff there, reduce Ellison to a captain (he wants to be sheriff in Dawson County anyway) and move the whole bunch to the other precincts.
The reason why they are not considering moving officers around is because even after closing north precinct that will hardly help to close the gap in the deficit which is why lay-offs are on the table. This does not mean everyone in North will be laid off. People will be moved to different precincts but the lower line level officers thrughout the entire county and people close to retirement will be laid off or asked to retire early as time progresses and the decision is made to start laying people off.
Are counselors on standby to help any grief stricken officers that did not know there was more to DeKalb Co. than what lies north of I-85.
Now North Officers can suffer with the rest of us...
I'm sure some people are kicking themselves for not taking that early retirement now.
"Suffer with the rest of us" You are joking right? Just because "You" work south of I-85, you don't think we suffer? Where's the Blood line drawn at? You stupid, selfish ass.. We are all police officers, just like "you". Yet another example of they typical B*tch who wants to puff their chest up and say "I'm as bad as it gets cuz I work at" so and so Precinct. I'll tell you what Hard Ass Officer, the day you charge into an active shooting scene, risking your life to save countless others in a dark bar/pool hall, THEN, stop the threat with 2 rounds, come talk to "us" North of I-85. Until then, STFU.......and stay safe.
Good luck getting ANYONE to apply for DKPD now.
The first thing Burrell Ellis and the board needs to do is eliminate the County Commissioner that covers the area of North Precinct and Brookhaven. No need for that Commissioner anymore and that would save the County a lot of money. But we know that will not happen. The board will propose to layoff Officers instead.
They gotta spend the money to train the new academy class before they fire them.
What a fucked up mess. This is typical of Dekalb County BOC.Never come up with a good idea, but always scare the employees and the public into massive layoffs and tax increases. And now, those same idiots are talking about the possibility of a "City of Dekalb".These dumbasses spend endless nights thinking on ways on screwing the hands that feed them (Public) I do believe that the State of Georgia should come in and take control of this totally fucked up government ever since that the CEO form of operation came into being because it has not been for the best, but has created the worst form of government. Everyone down in Decatur has their own agenda and screwing the taxpayers and employees in their #1priority.A real example is that "bump on the log" Sherry Barnes Sutton, and that midget (Larry Johnson) who is always picking or cleaning out his ears, and lets no forget that overstuffed clown Jeff Rader, who with his binocular glasses stands tall in front of the camera at attention.Last, but not least, that squirt, Lee May, who has a tall bodyguard following him around like the wind. What a fucking mess.............
Sounds good to me. I would wait until Brookhaven is up and running and Chamblee has done the 4 annexations it plans to do though. Just absorb whats left of North into Tucker and Center.
Anon. 10/24 @ 3:09, you are exactly why this blog needs to be shut down. It served a purpose against T-Bow but when you attack your fellow officer you kill us all. You are equal to that "Goon Squad" that beat the preps, or others that are paraded over the news. Divide and conquer. You and the rest of the inexperienced need to earn your right to speak your peace. The discussion needs to be since when does Rader or any of his band of liars grow a set to show up at a precinct? In 27 years only Levitan showed up for her "farewell to your raise tour", that sucked but at least she told us to our face. None of those clowns have ever been to a precinct, training, ride along, preliminary, get a prisoner, detective unit etc. Those commissioners should know they have to earn the balls to do a press release from the steps of a precinct. That is an error by the North officers that should/will not be repeated. He should have felt unwelcomed and recognised he needs to correct his past behavior. Now can I get a "he-rumph" by those who have earned their voice.By the way North Prect is donated to us and ours as long as we keep it staffed with Dekalb Officers.
Just curious, why does everyone think that if your are not currently at North prct, your safe from a layoff. Doesn't work that way. Generally they wanna get rid of the higher salaries. If they can get rid of enough upper management, they won't bother the lower ranks. If not, then theyll lay off so many Capts, so many Lts and so on. A graduated scale. This would occur Dept wide. Just FYI......;-(
Lay offs will be done by badge number, sure they would love to get rid of captains and majors with a force out. The County will win when they get 2 majors to retire probably 5 captains and 5 Lieutenants 25 officers (by end of year 25 will quit) sure there will be a few furlough days. How shitty is it to have a few years here, worked hard only to have to worry if you have a job next week?
All the more reason to freeze your retirement now than to lose it getting fired.
I heard it would be based on GPS stats. Like looking back over the past year and seeing who spent the most hours eating lunch, wandering around the mall or taking your take home car home early. Maybe who goes by there part time the most while on duty making sure that it will be there come Friday night. Possible who spent the most time trying to pick up women or just running errands. Maybe the ones that maintain radio silence for half a shift or those hanging out where their girlfriend works. No your right, will probably be just run off a few more of the ones that actually work! For the above you know who you are. Good luck to all!
It will go by hire date/badge number per division. Unfortunately no matter how much the B.O.C. ignores the facts, they are subject to financial physics. Rest assured they aren't going to give you advanced warning. The proactive will prevail.
I doubt layoffs will be needed once everyone sees the increased pension and health ins costs. They'll be leaving on their own accord to agencies that pay it for them.
