When You Lay With Dogs

As the AJC article is titled, some of DeKalb CEO’s hires caused him trouble.

Well yes, some of his people have and are causing him problems because they seem to be dishonest people. But the root of the corruption is Burrell's deliberate, sinister decisions to bring on board people of like mind who want to steal from and cheat the taxpayers of DeKalb County.

 Read the AJC article here.

Don't forget, none of us in PD or Fire have seen a raise in 6 years, but CEO Ellis found a way to give his little secretary a raise. We're dodging bullets and running into burning buildings, but there's no money to give us raises. What did she do to "earn" that raise??

I hope they pick the next Chief from the department.
The outsiders applying have applied all over the country for every open chief position.

All they want is the title.

I doubt a chief chosen from inside the department will be perfect or even great. But at least they know us and maybe they will be better than we think. I prefer to have someone I know or at least someone I have heard of. I think Anon 12:29 has a point. Why would someone from another state move here to take this job? Are they coming for the right reasons? Law Enforcement in the south is very different than other parts of the country. I have doubts that these applicants from all over the country really understand this.

The last year merit increase were given for performance evals was 2007. The BOC suspended merit increases starting in 2008. So it's only been 5 years not 6. The last merit increases given for performance evaluations were Dec 2007. I know it seems alot longer than that and in reality its time that the County atleast give a cost of living adjustment. We've had increased pension, increased insurance and taxes with nothing to help with the pain of less money in 5 yrs. It's starting to take it's toll on alomost all of the county employees. There is no way they can continue to ignore our plight. It's time to take out the garbage and get it done otherwise this place is going to collapse. The BOC has done everything they can do to balance the budget on the backs of the county employees and I say it's time that the employees stand together...every last one and demand an increase this year....it can be done, it just takes asses to do it and stand united.

This is the first story I have seen from April and the AJC that is not a verbatim press release from Burke.
DeKalb government needs a lot of help. Glad to see the April and the AJC step up to the situation and provide some insight.
On a slightly more humorous note, my dogs may smell, but I would rather lay with them than DeKalb's political rulers. They may smell but they are smart, and I trust them which is a heck of a lot more than I can say for what passes as DeKalb government leadership these days.
Haargh!
Best regards to all,
Be safe mates!

Any one applying from outside our dept for Chief of Police Dekalb is applying to be a "yes man" to the current crop of thieves in Decatur and thats all there is to it. Those fools with choose the best puppet that applies. History will repeat itself with another TeBo.
If they had any sense at all in Decatur they would pick someone who actually does care about this county and department and would have the balls to stand up to them and tell them how it is, not bow down to them.

You're wrong that no county employee is getting a raise. Don't forget that Ellis has in his budget for all employees making under $37,000 will get a raise this year. So screw all you cops and fireman. You will get nothing, except a continued paycut, and an increase in crime. Watch your backs, noone else will (and that includes some Assistant Chiefs and the likes)

I'm sorry...who in their right mind would want to be the police chief of this troubled department/county? Must be even worse where they are presently. I'm retired now...but, I remember when working for DeKalb was boring...East Precinct was where they sent the old farts before they retired. It's just an unholy mess. And...even if Ellis is clean...he's got to be ashamed of the mess he is over. Being able to say "well, they couldn't prove anything" just doesn't cut it anymore. Plus - look at the schools! The citizens of this County have to be card-toting, cigar-smoking, every-Wednesday-night-prayer-meeting fools to let their politicians ruin their county AND their educational system like this. My dog knows not to poop in his own bed...evidently DeKalb voters never learned this useful bit of info. Lord, it's hard watching this mess unfold....

I dont care if your a Captain, Lieutenant, Sergeant, MPO , PO II or I......wake up!!!!!!!!!

Leave, Quit, Find another job,,,,,,what are you people stupid or just like to get kicked.....

IT WILL NEVER GET BETTER!!!!! How much more obvious do they have to make it?

I cannot believe that people who claim to "dodge bullets" and "run into burning buildings" are so STUPID and so easily taken advantage of.

Anon 6:54, I understand your sentiments. I used to keep my thoughts on current employees best interests under cover. I thought it not best to advise DeKalb's most productive employees to leave in hopes that they could help turn DeKalb government around. Unfortunately DeKalb political rulers have convinced me they do not have the employees best interests at heart. Frankly my opinion is that DeKalb rulers will burn DeKalb rank 'n file employees at first chance. They talk a fracken' good game about supporting the working class. But when it comes to offering competitive wages, attracting quality employees. Their words fall apart. The last major salary increase was in '97 and aimed at the laborers who work hard enough, and nothing for the professionals who actually make the county work. DeKalb rulers were foolish enough to cast out the cities of Dunwoody and Brookhaven, They hire expensive political staff. Now when the next salary increase comes around. Its only for the laborers as seen in '97.
This is total BS and I advise those competent and smart enough, leave this sinking ship. DeKalb rulers despise you. They refuse to talk or listen to you. Many are hanging on for the pension. I can understand the motivation. Take a good look at how the commissioners treat you as dirt, your pension, and prospects elsewhere.
Abandon ship, mates!
