All We Need Is Swagger!

Swagger: to conduct oneself in an arrogant or superciliously pompous manner; especially : to walk with an air of overbearing self-confidence

Really Chief? Swagger? We can't remember when we ever had Swagger. And you want to restore it? Couldn't you have used a better word?

Maybe swagger is the problem.

Read for yourself here.

DKPD NEWEST motto: To Protect and Swagger.
God help you all...

"Swagger?" I would think with a PhD, he would possess an immense lexicon, where as he could have chosen a better word! Geez!

Maybe they have swagger in Florida.

Somehow this seems most appropriate: http://youtu.be/LQCU36pkH7c

Come on Ced, really? Swagger? Just give us our take home cars to shut us up for a month or so Chief! Probably gonna start rolling them out towards the end of 2016! I have a motto for you.... "Suck it Ced!"

Maybe DKPD could restore their swagger by actually hiring a new Chief with an actual Georgia police certification. Stop posing Mr. Alexander.

Oh well,it could always be worse than "swagger". Like super ghetto worse.(yall have obviously never worked around Fleminister). I like this chief's homey spun dialect in words/phrases like"extablish","axe a querstion","skreets",and "DeeKab County Polese Deepartment". I just know that there is more to come in that Ivey League repertoire. At least he doesn't make up words and phrases like Tom Brown! Damn, talk about slaying the "king's english"! The chief probably meant it in a completely different context, like getting your confidence back,or feeling good about yourself.BUT,he didn't shy away from defending that officer on the 42-p shooting, either.(you can bet your ass that officer doesn't care about his verbiage). So it all evens out.(once again, yall have obviously never heard any of Ray Ray Fleminister's or Nikki Moss's orations. I mean, damn, they made me feel like a Rhodes Scholar)! I just pray that the chief and Holmes never transmit on the radio at the same time. Somebody, somewhere will probably be firing "skuds" into Dunwoody!! It's a shame that this organization of once renown fame re;top notch professionlism, honor, respect, and virtually the envy of all others, has fallen this far, this fast. I remember the beginning of the end, when some "folks" were running around the building, thumping their chests shouting, "We are in charge now. This shit gonna change"!(swear fo God.I was standing right there)! Truer words have never been said!!

Come on folks Rock on OB didn't do shit for us and you didn't cry one peep. If using the word "SWAGGER "is the only thing you have to complain about hell, the Chief is doing good.

Anonymous said...

He will be gone before 2016, and his replacement is another token that is employed for a few years. This department is a lost cause, I love it DeKaib but we cannot save it.

Anonymous said...

Chief, you allowed him to resign? That's well and good but he's nothing more than a perp so why wasn't he arrested and criminal charges brought against him? Maybe a little time spent at the DeKalb Hilton with all the other thugs would do him some good. Nothing but a piece of crap who has brought more shame not only to the department but to the names of all of our good, honest officers who serve and protect our citizens each and everyday. Help me to remember..how did we wind up with you as our Chief? Oh, that's right. You were selected by Ellis. Guess that just about says it all.

Anonymous said...

Swagger also means "a self-confident outlook." Which definition do you think he intended? Does our department have a problem with the way we walk down the street, or do we have a problem with our self image, also known as morale? When you used to word "lexicon," were you referring to the Chief's vocabulary, or his dictionary? "Lexicon" can mean either.

Anonymous said...

Come on folks. Don't take it out of context. I think he means he wants us to have some pride and confidence when we are out there. Sort of like in the days gone by that everyone seems to want back. The days when a Dekalb Officer showed up on scene there was a sense of command, authority, respect, etc. When we show up now, there's none of that - thanks to those who discredit the rest of us wearing the badge.

You could increase current salaries threefold here and it still wouldn't be worth the professional risk to stay.

give it a rest people, the chief is on to something...we need that confidence that comes from being one of the best in the business...i for one, am very excited about the changes underway, and i am really looking forward to the future...i love this job, and i am incredibly proud of the work my co-workers and i do every night, work done with integrity, honor, and purpose...

Swagger no problem. I'll switch from briefs to boxers and let my equipment swing free, I'll be swaggering in no time.
To anon 9:10
I don't think he's posing, but I also don't think he's going to stay. He has to take a 460 hours, 11 week mandate class and a 60 hours executive level class. I wouldn't want to do it at his age. But, rules are rules.

Anonymous said...

Well I guess we do have "SWAG", we have a day watch supervisor rocking Mohawk for a haircut and shopping on duty. Wouldn't a Mohawk be considered "eccentric"? I guess you do what you want when you get a gold badge and chevron stripes!

Cedric Alexander is a f@&#ing moron. He doesn't deserve the "chief" title. I've got almost 20 years with this department and never posted on here until now. Sadly, him and his regime have FORCED me to resign. Now I've seen some of our best officers leave this place in the past, but never thought I'd be one of them. I will definitely miss the great officers I worked with and the friends I made. What I won't miss are the pathetic cowards in the chief's office who act like a bunch of children who got picked on in high school and are now out for revenge. Grow up, act your age, and please pick up a dictionary so you can speak proper English.

My advice to all my fellow officers, tread lightly around Cedric the children in his office. My advice for you Cedric, judge yourself before judging others.

Hello All
Its been a little while since I posted on here but I felt an urge to on the recent memo on possible pay and benefits that the county BOC and Interim CEO want to implement.

All I have to say is, when I see it/its in my hands, I will believe it. If an opportunity comes along, believe me, that memo will have no effect in making me say "hmm I think I'll stick it out and pass up this opportunity because good things are in the pipeline for us". We have been lied to or given hopes so many times that their credibility is non existent. I think that the 3 percent bonus should be paid post haste, not 3 months from now. Those of us that haven't quit have been more than patient.

I also wanted to say that I wouldn't count on anything in that memo due to the recent water/sewer construction project screw up that was in the news recently. There was inadequate oversight/incompetence in Phase 1 of the project and now it has to be redone in its entirety. Where do you think the county that claims its always broke is gonna get that money ? And if they have to force some responsible outside parties into redoing things, there goes more litigation and legal bills.

God Help Us

SERENITY NOW

The choice is has it has always been there: NEVER have/voice any opinion that differs from the corrupt powers that be or be ostracized or worse.

Cedric Alexander is unqualified.

I was on the side of giving the guy a chance and all when he arrived but some people pointed out a few facts to me recently.
He has never been a sergeant.
He has never been a lieutenant.
He has never been a captain.
He has never been a major.
He is never been an assistant chief.
He was the interim chief of a jurisdiction less than half the size of Dekalb for just a few months. That's it. He has no police supervision experience whatsoever. I really wanted to be optimistic but I am beginning to hear stories about this guy almost every day now.Stories about rouge behavior that sounds more than just a little thuggish. He has no law enforcement or legal background and he is going to get sued and get the department sued if this continues.

10:53 Thank you for your service. I am sure that the tax payers of DeKalb have spent a lot of money training you well and it will not be an issue to find other work. Good luck with the job search, hope you find peace and meaning in your life. Chief Alexander WE THE PEOPLE OF DEKALB COUTY SUPPORT YOU! Please be mindful of fairness in all areas regarding the staffing of the DKPD. I hear IA has some people in it that are very political with business' and citizens and protecting the corruption going on in the county. Who is the commander of IA? Why are officers that report other officers not getting back up....and on and on. The protection of corruption is not going over very well with the citizens of the county. BOC, Lee May need to take action to clean your house as well. Chief Alexander we stand with you please help to CLEAN THIS COUNTY UP. Please call in the F. B. I. if needed. 10:53 GOOD LUCK, GOD BLESS.

7:11PM, shut the fuck up. Thuggish? Why, because he's black? He has a phd. What about you? Online degree maybe if you're lucky? No supervision experience? He was actually deputy Chief in Rochester for 3 years, then became interim Chief for a few months. Rochester is less than half the size of DKPD? Rochester has about 700 officers, DeKalb has about 1100 if you believe the online numbers, but we both know it's closer to 800 or 900. Even if it was 1100, 700 isn't less than half of 1100. Are you talking about jurisdiction size? Who cares about acreage? You police people, not land. Tell me one way you're worse off now under Alexander than you were under O'Brien.

Anonymous said...

You know what I am going to appreciate more than my O'brien Flashlight? My 3% bonus this December and my take home car next year. I know, it hasn't happened yet, but at least it's in the works, which is more than O'Brien ever did. I'd be happier with a raise, but it's still more than O'Brien ever did for us.

@September 24, 2013 at 8:21 PM....Really, you’re giving credence to a rumor about DKPD's IA. Our IA is competent and fair. I count a few of them as friends; before, during and after they investigated a "rule" violation concerning me.
The 99.9% of us who get up and do this job with honor and integrity everyday have gotten zero from the media and little from the citizens. It's not Chief Alexander who's cleaning up the department it’s the officers!!!! I've never "protected corruption" nor will I ever.
It's the officers (the 99.9%) who have pressed the issues of political corruption for years. For anyone at the CEO/BOC or any of these cities to suddenly speak out about corruption is ridiculous. It took years until there was a DA ready to look at the investigations but it finally came. I pray the DA's Office continues to show interest in the work of the dedicated DKPD detectives who have risked it all to investigate political corruption in DeKalb County and its cities.

We are barley making over minimum wage in most States. How much do you thing we are going to take working in this dump? Get it together or keep losing officers, bottom line...

Glad I took the early-out retirement a few years ago when T-Bo took office. From what I hear from current officers and also reading about in the news, "Cedric the Swagger" is worse than T-Bo. I heard before he came to DeKalb, he was quietly forced to leave NYPD as their interim chief because he was getting "too close" to their female officers. After that he went to Texas and worked in TSA (which he knew nothing about). He also knows absolutely nothing about law enforcement, other than what people in your department are telling him. Did he even go through an abreviated academy like T-Bo? I’m just curious; who is the new @ss kisser that’s pointing your chief in the direction your department is headed? From my experience, it sounds like Hunt or Yarbro are using your chief as a puppet. Your department deserves better command and leadership than that. Now I’m going to be optimistic for a moment. If and when they restructure the brass, maybe then I’ll finally be able to post a positive comment about DKPD on this blog.

There are no open comments, so I'll post here.
To all officers promoted immediately after the 10% was reduced to 5%: Our voices need to be heard. I'm glad Lee May is looking into giving the 10% pay increase back to officers for promotions, but it should affect all officers that were promoted under the 5% rule and not only within the past year. The 10% raise was taken two years ago so there are many officers promoted in that year that will not get the additional 5% they deserve or work for. Let your voices be heard about how this affects you and your family. Do it the right way. Write a letter to May or go to a meeting. We've all earned that 10% increase not just some.

IA....a bunch of Monday morning quarterbacks who are there to second guess and judge things they haven't done in years....answer calls and deal with day to day issues.

I have no respect for IA and think they are used by white shirts to elevate their standing and go after those who make them feel threatened/insecure.

We recently had a very experienced Detective leave because she was afraid of retribution for all of her fantastic work. Retribution from an Assistant Chief who was demoted to Captain again. Read about it here:

http://www.ajc.com/news/news/crime-law/dekalb-cop-who-spurred-corruption-probe-leaves-dep/nZ33w/

Chief Alexander's response to this was that she wasn't demoted because of the Grand Jury investigation, she was demoted for other reasons.

Are you kidding me? So what you are saying is that you are just going to allow this Captain to remain employed and continue to be a black eye to this department? Despite the fact that she perjured herself to a Grand Jury (or is incompetent). You think you can keep retribution and intimidation at bay around here? Not until people like her are gone. She previously kept a Sergeant from going back to CID because he was involved in investigations she didn't want him touching when he was a Detective.

Chief, you can't clean this department up unless you start at the top. Leaving these folks around will make you look like a fool. It is already starting to.

That aint "swagger" guys. Thats your back and knees being worn completely out from the weight of that gun belt and all the "stuff" you have to carry that wasn't needed until all this political correctness "hug a thug" crap was introduced.
Mace and pepper spray...it might work...maybe...sometimes.
Tazer....those are great if you dont know how to use those physical skills and techniques.
ASP baton.....thats what those things at the end of your arms are for...they work better and you always have them with you.
Spend a career like I did in DeKalb and your knees and back will remind you every day about all that crap you have to carry now.
Swagger....I know exactly what that is. Get away from the petty BS and infighting and it will return. And....I know there are still a lot of good DeKalb officers that still have that true swagger, its just the idiots in Decatur dont want you to show it and use it. If they did, there would be a LOT less use of force reports AND arrests being made.
Keep the faith you real warriors....you absolutely need a raise. To the pansies....go home! We are sick of reading about your "problems" on here.

5:33. I'm tired of waiting. I just want to know why all this stuff is either over-looked/or intentionally ignored! I'm contacting P.O.S.T.,and researching obvious "unprosecuted" criminal acts, constant/chronic departmental/policy procedural violations for "some",and this blatant pick and choose truthfullness issues involving the same people over and over, like Williams/Woodard,what-ever and others. If this doesn't work,I know some folk's "retired" from P.O.S.T. and G.B.I.,who will hopefully point me in the right direction. A bud of mine is a state representative re; the State Attorney"s Office. Hell, why not? I've paid taxes all my life,so I'm going to try and get my money's worth!! Might as well call my old buddy Richard on the t.v. news. The Open Record's Act covers all disciplinary actions,I.A. cases, and pretty much everything else.(but screwing with folks is generally undocumented). But I'm sure there are "some" that are stupid enough to write a lot of this stuff down! Getting people to stand up and tell it like it has been, and how it is, will be the biggest challenge!!

Unfortunately his letter said the 5% increase would be retroactive going back one year. So any officer promoted right when the 5% was taken away will NOT get the increase. Only officers promoted within the last year will get the 5% increase so again, we get nothing.

Anonymous said...

I like the new Chief and I am hopeful of where the department is heading... That said, What ass clown came up with the 5-2 idea for CID?

No pay increase in six (going on to seven) years. A morale roller coaster ride that would give anyone nausea. Tons of officers resigned, terminated, or indicted. A measly 3% one time check to shut everyone up about the pay. Cars that are almost as burnt out as the officers.

And on top of all of this, CID is going to a 5-2 schedule. WTF! When the hell am I suppose to work all the part time jobs that I now have to take to be able to keep my fucking house! I guess Some of us will choose to go back to uniform or elsewhere just so we can keep our house and put food on the table.

My God, I never expected to make a ton of money in policing, but I sure didn't think it would become a necessity to be able to support my family. And now you want to further screw me by forcing CID to a 5-2 schedule. We have an on-call roster, we have multiple shifts, What the hell is the logic behind a 5-2 schedule except to further crush morale.
Great Job!

If you are in uniform, yes the chief squashed any rumor of everyone going to a 5-2; but honestly, do you really think it will stop at CID?
