Another Officer Arrested.......Yawn

Once upon a time, this would surprise and shock us. But not anymore.

There are several reasons these type of things happen. The most glaring is the lack of a pay raise in years, a wage that makes it hard to support a family and the economy.

But the most glaring reason is the culture of corruption this county has become, including the police department.

The entire school board was so corrupt, it had to be replaced by the governor. Burrell Ellis is so corrupt he was suspended by the governor. Which leads us to this; When Chief Cedric took the job offered by Burrell Ellis, Cedric knew or came to know one of two things.

The first being maybe he knew what he was stepping into. Maybe Burrell confided in the chief and told him that Wiz Miller had stopped criminal investigations into corrupt officials and police aids in possession of large quantities of marijuana. Maybe he knew Wiz Miller and Assistant Chief  Woodard lied to a special grand jury.

Or maybe he didn't know. In that case, he was deceived and lied to by Burrell Ellis. If that's the case, then why is Assistant Chief Woodard still in her position? Why has she not been placed on administrative leave at the very least?

In regards to the punk Officer Miguel, the chief is quoted “This is one individual’s decision to go above the law,”.  “Yes, it is embarrassing to us. It’s very disappointing. But we’re not going to let it taint us.”

Your are so right Chief. But it is your individual decision not to suspend Woodard pending the District Attorney's investigation. And every day that passes, you taint us because your actions to date is letting Assistant Chief Woodard be above the law, thus making you an accessory.

Truly disappointing.

Your department is a disgrace! Dkpd you are the laughing stock of law enforcement . I truly hope they dissolve your whole county to city's .

Maybe if background wasn't ordered to greenlight everyone that hasn't done coke in the last 6 months we might have some quality officers working here.

Anonymous said...

Hey Anon 9:31- it wasn't always. There are still hard working officers out there who are TRYING to do the right thing every day. Easy for you to say... When was the last time YOU put your life on the line for someone you don't know?

Anonymous said...

Wow, can't wait to put on my uniform, hold my head up high, and head to work knowing I'm so lucky to be a DKPD officer.... What a joke.... Can't wait to find a new job and get the hell out of this shit hole of a county.

Anonymous said...

Ok.......Maybe it was the fault of the county for not giving the officers a salary increase. Times have been tough for the last five or six years on everyone, but at the very least, this officer knew or should have known what he was getting himself into. There is no free lunch and there no perfect crime.

I agree with many of the officers in the department regarding salaries. When the time comes to get rid of the major problems that this county has such as over spending, lack of trust, people who really know what they are supposed to be doing and not thinking about lining their pockets with taxpayers monies, then maybe something will come of it.

Is it better to steal or be corrupt, no not in this country or county. Will it change, only time will tell.

Should a bad cop continue to work.......Hell no. Y'all know the old phrase: "You don't do the crime unless you can afford the time". It is just a shame that something like this destroys a family, distrust at work, and more frustration, and still no salary increases. What a mess !!!

Chief, how can you say, this officer is an embarrassment? What about Burrell, Woodard, and all the others? If Miguel is an embarrassment so is Burrell, they were both arrested for corruption. Howcan all these officers get caught in a sting operation and the Police can not conduct a sting operation in the business license department ?Here's a hint, flash a little cash and open a nightclub.

Anonymous said...

Guess Gwinnett PD and DEA are having to police us now since obviously no one here is capable.

Anonymous said...

You get what you pay for and eventually.... those good ones who came on when you were paying top dollar.....they'll leave too.

The chickens are coming home.

Anonymous said...

No lack of salary or benefits is an excuse for what Miguel did. He is just a shit bag, simple as that. We seem to have a lot of those these days, and they can no longer hide behind the excuse,"we'll, if you would have paid me more money then I wouldn't have to break the law." That's just B.S.

Anonymous said...

Lack of pay raises has NOTHING to do with an officer breaking the law. None of us have had a raise in several years. It is harder to support a family when you make less than you did 10 years ago. I agree with that. What I do not agree with is that it's a reason for a cop to break the law. I have cut back on spending, tried to find part time jobs, and did what I had to do to make that money up. That never did or will include breaking the law because I have morals and values that would not allow me to lie, cheat and break the law. In order to break the law you are sworn to protect, it is in your character and you deserve whatever you get.
We have more outstanding officers in this department than crooks, but unfortunately all people see if the corruption of few in this county.

Anonymous said...

Just as I suspected. The Chief is quick to speak out against an officer for being arrested, but still hasn't said one word about Burrell Ellis. This guy is a joke!

This harks back to all of our officers sitting in front of these clubs where these drugs and cartels are partying and conducting business. We have become prisoners to the part time cash. Officers joke about watching drug runners and mexican cartels entering and leaving these establishments. The owners are evading taxes and catering to these individuals while paying off county officials to allow them to operate. Major player right in North DeKalb and our members are sitting watch every weekend. This owner brags about having the police in his back pocket and providing them with free meals, parties, vip at the club, and girls who work there. The chief must not care or is being told to look the other way. This owner contributes to all of the commisioner's campaigns also. He pays off zoning and licensing while being officers best friend each weekend. More of these cases are going to happen when the guys with the money employ the officers.

Truly disappointed in the blogmaster's statement "The most glaring is the lack of a pay raise in years, a wage that makes it hard to support a family and the economy."

Sure, times are tough for most Americans right now. So, do most Americans immediately turn to breaking the law? This sounds like someone is trying to justify bad acts. If you are not satisfied with your current financial situation you have several options. It is disheartening that criminal acts by one who should know better would be considered, and even more disturbing that the criminal act would somehow be justified.

11:56 . Sorry bud,Gwinnett's Chief was on the news last night, having a news interview re; losing officers due to lack of pay. (2011--16, 2012--28,--2013--38,so far).(5)five quit in one day to go to Brookhaven. Gwinnett P.D. is considerately smaller than DeKalb P.D.,and it is a major, big time problem for them. This poor guy was begging the B.O.C. for immediate help, because he can't stop his officer's from leaving due to pay issues. He said that officers from 6 months to 20+ years are leaving just as soon as they can find a dept. offering higher pay and better benefits. He predicts many more to leave soon. Of course, one commissioner interviewed, stood there with the "deer caught in the head-lights look",sputtering, "I don't know what we can poss do at this point, for "just the police dept".. Other county employee's will start leaving too! THERE IS NO MONEY,THERE HAS BEEN NO MONEY,AND THERE WILL BE NO MONEY IN OUR BUDGET, BECAUSE, THERE IS NO MONEY!! Sound's familiar, except Chief Alexander has done or said nothing, and Gwinnett is not suffering from the same super level of gross incompetence, and uncontrolable thievery.("Hey Mav,do you still have the number for that truck driving school)? Not good. Not good at all.

Miguel is an idiot and the public & media will associate us all with him. He's gone. Let's move on. If anyone from outside of DKPD says something negative to me about us, I tell them they don't know the real DKPD. When other officers (September 6, 2013 at 9:31 PM) make off handed remarks about us because of idiots like Miguel, I always remind them they are welcome to join us, survive the academy, work the streets with us and then after your rookie year we'll talk about your ideas. I'm confident their opinion of being a DKPD will change. Of all the officers who have disgraced us over the last year, I've only known 1 of them and he was a stupid slug. I know several sergeants took action against him when they could but the brass didn't fire him. So anyone (September 6, 2013 at 9:31 PM) who wants to know the real DKPD we are not hard to find. I'll be in uniform tommorow and I'll be glad to tell you about the 99% who do the right thing day in and day out.

Ah, the glorious 5/2. Wow, well, let me give my worthless 2 cents. I now have to pay an extra day of child care, spend another day away from home where I take care of personal business on that wonderful day off, and lose another night that I can't make up for the lose working a part time, because ill be at HQ. So, if Chief Alexander reads this blog, I want to personally thank you yet again for taking MORE money out of my pockets and giving me less time to spend with my family (3 days of in a row rather than two and some split up bullshit during the week). You really know how to fuck the hard workers in the department Chief, gotta say, you're doing a great job.

Oh, look at them, they are in an expensive car and spend a lot of cash in the club. The only explanation is they have to be moving weight through here! I'll just go ahead and search their shit and violate their rights to make a massive drug bust that the County will be proud of! NOT!

Can you tell me how Miguel's crimes are linked to any clubs? Didn't think so.

Bring some evidence of your accusations or shut your shaft washer. I know for a fact that several of the clubs you speak out against have gone through hell proving their business permits were legitimate in light of your accusations. As a matter of fact, the clubs that were recently disapproved for part time jobs are some of the only ones in the county that abide by the hours of sale ordinance. The officers that work for these clubs lock up a whole lot of people and we don't turn a blind eye to shit.

He was tempted by money. The temptation will be all that stronger for everyone in cid now that they are going to a 5/2 and spend less time with their families and loss of income from part times. And uniform get ready 5/2 is coming, just watch.

Anonymous said...

Dear Chief, is it right for an officer to make it to CID, even though he/she is not on the interview list, then be there only a few months and now since the 5/2 may be coming, he/she is now attempting to take another qualified officer's spot again in Training. Please monitor this. It's not fair that some break the rules, take the spots of hard working officers, and continue to be rewarded because of who they know or who they give part times jobs to. This type of selfishness can't be allowed to happen again. There are others who have worked hard and done things the right way. They should be rewarded and given a fair opportunity to reach their dreams. This detective needs to quit running from hard work and focus on clearing cases, since that is what they asked for and was given. Again, please monitor this so that he/she doesn't get over again.
Accoutabilty

Anonymous said...

Yes 5/2 will suck, and its only a matter of time before it effects uniform. Add another day of gas money to and from work.

There are MANY very qualified officers that will not put in for CID because of the schedule, then get fucked when uniform goes to a 5/2.

There are going to be very good opportunities in CID in the next month, dont waste your chance because your worried about the schedule. We can bitch about it all we want, there are people in high places making decisions mostly because they 5/2 will not effect them.

To Anonymous September 7th 11:49, Let's be clear the Vice Unit is attempting to clean up Follies and the other strip clubs in Dekalb I have seen them in action. As a resident of this county all I can say is its been great having the opportunity to actually see the type of officer's Dekalb county has hired. This blog forum has truly exposed that the majority of our officers are cowards and its brought our once great Police Dept to its knees. Keep up the good work guys with all the backstabbing, name calling, and just general shark feeding frenzy that has allowed you to sink beneath the bottom of the barrel in the metro Atlanta area as a police department. I at one time was a supporter of this police dept. but having watched and listened over the months at how you all go after one another on this site has been a great spectacle. All you guys want to do is start finger pointing at the root cause of losing your county & dept by blaming everyone around you. As a business owner and resident of Dekalb County all I can say is this web site has destroyed you all. The only person you need to be pointing a finger at is the one looking back at you in the mirror.

11:54. I can't believe you stated that re: 5/2 in c.i.d.,(or uniform"). If a change in work schedules is all it takes to become a corrupt cop, this whole profession is in deep, deep sh*t! You have been watching way to many t.v. shows and movies. You probably didn't notice, but on the employment application,it doesn't ask you if you mind living on your
payscale, driving your pov to work and part time jobs, work guaranteed shifts,or address all the inequities re; preferential treatment on promotions or assignments. Don't act so surprized, because this type of conduct is predictable when you virtually have no hiring standards. If a applicant can make fog on a mirror with their breath, this county will hire them. It's a sad commentary when you have to keep an eye on the perp, and your back up officer as well. 90 % of our cops are honest, hard working, good people. The other 10 % should have never been hired to begin with, much less, retained!! Once upon a time,in a land far,far away, there was a saying, "If you can't trust a cop,who can you trust"? Now,you just can't be sure! Sad,so,so sad !!

Hey Greg

we point out the obvious on this blog, because it is to dangerous for us to publically bring these issues to light within our department. We have to think about our families and our best interest we cant go to the command staff or any high ranking officials due to the fact that they are involved in alot of these corrupt acts.

We have an assistant chief, who has lied under oath, and was caught by a grand jury. Her boss does nothing about it.

This is the same person who was involved in a felony years ago, but it was brushed under the carpet because of who she knew.

How do you think we feel? We cant fart without being suspended, but others within the command can commit felonies

IF I worked in the DKPD I would want the county to have a "enforceable" ADULT ENTERTAINMENT CODE, not a illegal "payoff" that puts ALL Public Safety Works at risk. The secondary effects of serving alcohol and having nude dancing is REAL. NONE of the money given to the county by the Adult Clubs is ear marked for Law Enforcement or Code Enforcement. THIS is the C.E.O and the B.O.C. doings. HOW IS THE MONEY SPENT. $100,000 times 9 = what?(no money for DKPD) and more risk. You as a DKPD are at more risk with the clubs here but see none of the money. TELL THE BOC and CEO TO WRITE A CODE THAT SEPARATES NUDE DANCING AND THE SALE OF ALCOHOL. DKPD will be safer and the people of the county will to. Chief please make this happen. Good hunting to Vice. Follies needs to have its Alcohol permit pulled. Hear that Mr. Watkins crew. Be safe.

From Gwinnett PD web page
(http://www.gwinnettcounty.com/portal/gwinnett/Departments/Police).....758 officers..... The Gwinnett County Police Department is a nationally accredited and rapidly growing police agency located in the Northeastern quadrant of the Atlanta Metropolitan area. The Department currently has an authorized strength of 758 sworn officers supported by 307 civilian employees with the responsibility of providing law enforcement services to over 800,000 residents within an area of 436 square miles. The Department is organized into five divisions: Administrative Services, Criminal Investigations, Uniform, Support Operations, and Personnel Services.
......
That being said, we're not much bigger when you consider how many have left just this year....so, their chief's whining about 58 officers leaving is laughable when compared to DKPD.... BUT...II do see a chief publicly fighting for his officers...fighting to keep experience from waking.

Wish our chief fought to keep the officers Dekalb paid to train and the officers who have gained experience on Dekalb's dime. Paying Public Safety enough to keep them is fiscally responsible.

Interesting and heart-felt comments. The DOS blog got a lot of attention for its part in helping to bring down the disgraced ex-chief Bolton, the blog-master should justifiably take pride in the DOS blogs role in the issue and scandal. The fortunes and path this blog has taken have been torturous as life itself is. Over the past years the DOS blog has gained a reputation as a "bitch-blog" where the troops anonymously snipe and bitch at each other. My experience in the military was that generally, a happy sailor was bitching sailor. Our superiors were constantly making poor decisions and it was our chief petty officers that had to take their "clue-bat" to the officer in question and tactfully straighten them out. Unfortunately in DKPD and DeKalb government there are no tactful senior NCO's to straighten out the wrong-headed decisions and the poster child of really bad management, employee relations and all kinds of really stupid decisions by the CEO, BOC and other elected officials and their appointees.
I urge the blog members to desist from bitching about minor issues and stick to the major issues affecting DKPD and DeKalb government. As current history reveals there are a host of major issues that need to be fixed within DeKalb government. Many of us know the problems facing DeKalb and how to fix them. Unfortunately almost no-one wants to wade through the endless sniping and bitching on this blog to find the nuggets of hard information provided by those who know whats going on around here.
My opinionated opinion.

DKPD has some great officers and a few bad apples will not spoil it. Clayton County just had a major drug bust now DKPD let's make headlines for a something good.
Then have Chief get on the news and say, "Dekalb County, Texas, I know I said Florida the last time but where the hell am I? I would say, "Your up Burrell narrow azz."

Chief Alexander,

Thanks for pulling my part time job just because a dirty cop got arrested by Gwinnett, for shit he did in GWINNETT! Now I officially take home less money than I did when I was in the academy 10 years ago. You do realize that we haven't had a raise in 7 years and the health insurance, pension, etc, have been going up every year right? For most of us that work these jobs, it is to compensate for the raises we haven't been getting. You think we like having to work extra hours so we can enjoy what little time we have afterwards?

9:57. One more time. The purpose of this "police" blog,is to let officer's blow off steam and stress,w/o threat of reprisal, recriminations,or retaliation. This is not a research resource to cure "all the county,or departmental problem's". There are no hard hidden nuggets, not should there be. The people "in the know",are not about to hang their collective asses out in the breeze for themselves, much less anybody else around here. They always assure not to upset the delicate balance, while feathering their own nests. It's "You are all right.I agree fully".BUT,in front of the brass,"It's,yes sir,yes sir.Three bags full"! Like the song says "When the right word goes in the wrong ear",yada yada. There is,and has always been a constant supply, and resupply of way more than enough of departmental"tattletales",running to the powers that be. THIS,is certainly not the military, and does not have the slightest resemblance of any branch. In the military, you are taught to always take care of the troops under you,and speak up on their behalf. In all this research, give me one single example of that. Just because these officers do not have rank, certainly does not mean they are stupid. If you really want to know what is going on in any organization,ASK THE GRUNTS! Why hell, although we carry weapons,we don't even dress alike! You are promoted in the military through qualifications and competency, not because of the federal court system,or who you know! I don't know what color the sky is in your universe, but wake up,and come back to reality. Leave these troops alone, and let them lick their wounds,in their own ways !!!!!

A nice new shiny black BMW with Clayton tags always at Follies and Flashers. Both clubs have "molly" being sold by staff. Wonder if the Clayton county bust was due to information given to L.E.by DeKalb citizens wanting to help clean up the county? Was DKPD involved? or Was it DEA task force?

I give up, please stop I can't take this. I will never complain about my job and no raises or about being hounded for tickets by my supervisors. I will do what ever you want just please never make me listen to Capt. Rutland sing again, that is the worst torture ever.

Yawn again..... said...

Yawn.... I see that the temporary CEO's state of public safety and his bid to keep officers from leaving just came and went without much notice... Yippee... sometime in the future we'll have over 400 more inexperienced officers on the street and sometime in the future, most of us will see a ONE TIME bonus.

Was he talking to a room filled with reporters and white shirts?

Can someone that was at the meeting, or someone in the know post what was discussed? I had an appointment and could not make it...But I have heard several versions, and even people that were present don't seem to know what was promised this time. I mean said!

2:06 PM You are the kind of person who always sees the glass half empty. I know the bonus isn't what you would like, but rather than give May the credit for doing something that Ellis would never do, you gotta diss him ?? I think he deserves a lot of credit for doing things Ellis (and Jones before him) would never do. Take care of yourself and be happy.

DeKalb Citizen, Follies is now in the City of Brookhaven, try your luck with them..

I'm a Dekalb County resident and I think it's great you guys have an outlet to express your frustrations and concerns about our county. I'm even more happy that you allow the rest of us to read and share in your stories and dialogue. For many citizens it is hard to separate one officer from another... you guys often do get thrown in with the same bad apples, and I hate that for all of you. I do want to see you all perform at your highest and best efforts. What can we do as residents to help you accomplish that? What questions do you need us to bring up at townhall meetings? What concerns should we be sharing and discussing with leadership that will help you get what you need out of your leaders, but also help us make DeKalb a safer stronger county for our families as well?

I am all ears and would love to discuss. Thank you for all the sacrifices you make... you are so appreciated!

To 1032 am.
Thank you. What we need is for the citizens to take a stand and tell the BOC we need out raises back and take home cars and their full support. Im sorry but we cant be catagorized in the same group as every other employee. We are losing so many good officers to other department s because the benefits overall are better. They are hired here and trained at a huge expense and then in a few years after handling about double the national average call volume they goto another department that is smaller pays better and has take home cars. The fact is if I have a business here and im regularly being burglarized or robbed im gonna take my business to another part of town which leaves a vacant building and no revenue. The BOC is supposed to serve the residents and keep a safe county to raise a family. 99% of what we do is handle calls and very little is proactive. Most of us love our job and DKPD and serving the citizens but if we cant pay our bills and we dont live beyond our means we just wanna provide a good living for our families like you do but we cant now because everything is more expensive now and our takehome pay is less. So we need to find a department that actually appreciates (internally) us as professionals. So we find it elsewhere with usually a fraction of the call volume. I know the upper management in the department will say its not the pay but they are the ones making a substantial amount of money. If the BOC and citizens want a safe place to live and work then they have to put their money where their mouth is. Just being honest here.

Follies is not in the City of Brookhaven. It is still in unincorporated DeKalb. This is the area that Chamblee tried to annex last year and is trying to vote on again this year. The only adult establishment in Brookhaven is The Pony and we all know where Brookhaven stands on that subject.

To 9:19am please tell us what part time this was. Please tell us what problems and criminal involvement this owner has had in the past. Please tell us what goes on in this club and who frequents it. Please tell us that your family cannot eat because you are not guarding drug dealers, prostitutes, and corruptive business owners. You can find clean part time jobs and remember that a lot of folks make what we do or less and don't get fed part time cash, but still survive and feed their families. We all feel your pain but sympathy not. We have to be aware that we are sworn to uphold the laws, codes, and ordinances at all times even if someone is paying us cash to look the other way. The Chief may be doing you a big favor in the long run!

Anonymous said...

@10:11PM Nope, Follies (and all its drugs and prostitution) is still in unincorporated DeKalb.

Ahhh prostitutes. God bless America!

You make it sound like every cop who worked in those bars is dirty. I can tell you that very hard working, honest, moral officers work those part times. One bad apple doesn't make all of the officers or the owner culpable as you see it. Know what the hell you're talking about before you go bashing many good, outstanding officers. I don't thank anyone for me losing more money than I've already lost over the past 5 years. I will and would never be part of anything corrupt and the part time I used to work wasn't. So unless you have hard facts on each of these bars and owner shut the hell up. You're just another mouth spouting what you know nothing about.

The media loves to report on the sensational. It is difficult to work in a department when so many in power are corrupt. I was shocked to see Will Miguel in the news accused of stepping over to the dark side. I know him through a family member and hope his involvement isn't what he is accused of. No matter what the outcome his life and the public perception of police officers is forever damaged. But there are people who respect you who serve proudly and truck on despite the the current state of the DCPD.

Can someone tell me why El Tenampa is still an approved part time job? Especially after at least on officer that works there was suspended in the past for warning the dope dealing owner that morning watch officers were coming in to check permits and such?

Anonymous said...

El Tenampa definitely should be pulled for the list. Drud dealer owner, open prostitution, selling inside, previous murder, interfering with county officials while conducting inspection, etc.

Anonymous said...

PLEASE REPORT actions involving EL TENAMPA to the F. B. I. Naming DKPD officers involved in intel leak. If DKPD officers would do this it will help clean up the department. REPORT all illegal activity by DKPD officers to the F.B.I. and IA to make sure illegal activity is acted on, DO NOT TRUST IA TO DO THE RIGHT THING. Best to copy Sally Yates as well. The DKPD must help themselves by doing this. Some times these investigations take 18 to 24 months before arrest made.

10:58. The problem with the incompetence in I.A. is simple. The commander was a "forced" hire because of his background also. Another one of those "daddy things".

Anonymous said...

To the units that spend all of their time still riding around Brookhaven, let go, we don't patrol that area anymore.

Anonymous said...

9:20 Who is the commander of IA? OB's son?

old warhorse said...

re; that thug p.o.s.,Miguel. A u/c bud of mine was in on the arrest. He is assigned to the metro G.B.I. Task Force, and performed the investigation, surveillance, and ultimate arrest. He said it made him feel bad at first, when it was confirmed that Miguel was a L.E.O,but he felt much better when he was in on the arrest and transport. He was both shocked and amused when this "perp" kept using police lingo like "j-2",and "stand-by",in his bugged conversations. Damn, corrupt and stupid to boot!!!

Anonymous said...

So if an officer is fired or resigns because of bribery, what happens if you are a Captain or Chief Williams? NOTHING!

Anonymous said...

It is time for Lee May to get rid of the rest of the Atlanta crowd that came in under a corrupt CEO Ellis. Benita Ransom, Zach Williams, and Luz Borrero to name the main players. Watch at the corruption that they are planning with a several hundred thousand dollar contract for a consulting firm to tell them what they already know. Keep up with how this one plays out, Lee May get rid of them before they bring you down like the previous administration. The media is already waiting to see how this one plays.
