Retired Major Steve Stathis died this morning after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Funeral details will be made available when finalized.

Steve was my first captain...I worked for him at Center.... I learned from him and enjoyed working for him. He was a great officer who will be missed. I last saw him at an FOP event.
My condolences to his family... you're all in my prayers...Cpt/Mjr Stathis' struggle is behind him...he is a peace in the arms of our Lord... though he will be missed, I celebrate his birth into his new, eternal life in Heaven. Rest in Peace.
Wtf...I didn't even know he was sick. That sucks. He taught me a lot as a cadet. RIP Major.
Hate to hear this, but I am glad he is no longer in pain. I'm sure those that have gone before him welcomed him in, Step, Charlie Nelson, Zade Harper, Hugh Combee, Elgin Daniel, Lt. Bazemore. I can just hear them talking over old times. RIP Steve, your brothers and sisters in blue will carry on. You were my major when I retired and I definitely enjoyed the many years we worked together. Enjoy your rest my brother....

R.I.P. Steve, you served DeKalb County with Dignity and respect. My condolences to Lynn and Kerry. You guys stay strong and remember the good times you had with Steve.
Mr/Ms. Blogmaster: thank you so much for letting everyone know(especially those of us who no longer work for the dept.) about the passing of Maj. Stathis. I have a lot of memories to reflect upon after having gotten to know him and the many medical struggles he had to battle. There were so many days he was in pain but always managed to have a smile on his face. Please keep us updated on the arrangements as, often times, you make available to the blog readers information such as this before it is even published in the AJC. Again, thank so much.
To Lyn, his daughter and the remainder of his family, I hope he will not be bothered by the pain anymore. He was a kind, sincere, interesting and many other attributes type of individual.
I met Steve one day when he called me and wanted a nametag, and since then, we became very good friends.
Steve and I had lunch and coffee together many times, and sometimes we just got together just to talk and "shoot the breeze"
Lyn, please accept my deepest condolences of the passing of your husband and great man.

DeKalb has lost one of the great officers and supervisors....Went through the academy with Steve in 1974, 3rd Academy, rode as partners and got involved in first 10-80 with him...He was truly a great friend and passed way too early.....
RIP Steve and may GOD welcome you with open arms......
