Retirees To Get Cost of Living Raise?

Keep your fingers crossed. Our retirees are poised to get a long over due cost of living raise.

The proposed whopping 2% raise is long over due.

But before it happens, the pension board has to make a formal request to Mr. CEO Lee May, who of course, will use it to his political advantage. He probably say something like he was his idea and he has been fighting hard and long for the retirees. We'll go ahead and call B.S.

If all goes well, the raise will go in effect March 1, 2014,

1012 while I go over this with a fine tooth comb. I don't care if contributions all around have to triple, this pension should be sovereign once again.

Is that a raise or a one time payout with a stipulation that the money will be paid back (pro-rated) if you die before June?

Now that was funny!

Unfunded to the tune of $64,000,000 does that not worry anyone else?

Yes...being underfunded bothers me a lot. I'm wondering after the COLA is taxed, is it even worth it to the retiree or the damage to the pension. Correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't read any imput from our "representative by phone" on the COLA. We need a retiree rep that can physicially attend the pension meetings...anyone else agree?

I would like to see a retiree rep who can actually attend the meetings...

When is his term on the borad up????

hey Just Curious, You got it all wrong....

It is a one time payment, but you have to sign a paper saying you promise not to come out of retirement before June....

Anonymous said...

No, you have to promise to die by June.

Legalize marijuana ...like Colorado and when you tax the shit out of it everything will have a surplus.

Before you laugh...look at the tax revenue they are bringing in...and once you see the numbers adding up....other states will jump on board.

As much as I hate to say it...I hope they legalize it...could mean a pay increase in every aspect.

Just think...the 4th floor maybe ahead of the times when they stopped the investigation on the dope situation in the parking lot.

Before I go....they did away with the position....and to keep Alexander...they brought the position back.....along with a 8000.00 raise......but I'll be damned if I call him doctor ....

Tire of seeing e-mails from "dr. alexander".

To bad he's not a doctor in proctology!!!...cause he sure in the hell has that position down pat!!!

So here is another group that gets a raise. I'm still working there, and my Fricking check keeps going down while my duties go up and my co-workers get cost of living increases. I almost would like to see V Jones back

The reason you haven't seen a raise is because of VJ idiot. He ended the annual 5 percents. If your ultimate goal isn't to be a retiree one day you need to leave ASAP so stop crying.

WSB is reporting Dekalb has 150 police vacancies they are actively recruiting to fill. Do you realize what that says in this economy and more importantly about current management and their inability to retain competent officers? GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER!!!

Pension. The stock market has producd massive returns in the last few years. Why is our pension still in trouble? I'm aware of the funding issues but I am also wondering if we are getting the best return possible from our many paid investment advisors. Does anyone else wonder about this? Just asking.

Pensions are not usually heavily invested in stocks because the stock market is too risky. It was up a lot this year, but look at 2008. The stock market lost almost half of its value. The pension went down too, but nowhere near as much as stocks dropped.

Not only has the pension hit the skids in the last several years, when was the last time that POAB gave a raise to retirees? I cannot remember what the last increase was as it was so long ago.

I know the POAB fund has tons on money in it, but I haven't seen any kind of an update sheet regarding monies in the fund.

What is the problem with the State? POAB is raking the money in "hand over fist".

Sure would be nice to get a raise from POAB

A 2% COLA pension increase for retirees sounds fair. Who wants to bet the commissioners will approve it?
DeKalb County is so far into financial hell that no one wants to talk about the repercussions or how the county got itself into the situation.
DeKalb's political leadership is a fracken' bad joke. Poor decisions, crappy policies, refusal to do their jobs of representing all constituents.
Worst of all, an elitist attitude of mental superiority overall, combined with derision of financial responsibility for themselves personally or collectively for the county citizens or employees.
Dunwoody and Brookhaven are gone. Lakeside, Tucker, Briarcliff and Stonecrest are studying and planning incorporation.
Is DeKalb political leadership fracken' insane?
How exactly is the county going to maintain a large pension fund with the loss of all the "easy money" from these low-maintenance, high revenue tax-payers.
We also have the issue of county employee's stagnant salaries for the last two decades.
My prediction.
No raises in the foreseeable future for employees except political staff and appointees.
DeKalb political leadership will attempt to "raid" the employee pension for revenue to fund non-essential services.
Stay tuned and stay involved.
Best of luck, guys and gals!

I am not sure where you are gathering the information that the POAB Fund has tons of money in it, but they are also servicing a ton of retired LE across the state.
I do know that the fund raised the amount that it pays out just a few of years ago, certainly within the last 5 years. Truthfully, I do not know if retirees got that increase or if it was just going forward for future retirees. If you call the POAB in Griffin they are very helpful there and will try to answer any questions you have. As for an increase.... talk to your state representative. I asked that question of Tommy Benton a few years ago and got a typically political non-answer. But I believe the state governemnt controls the rate, not the POAB itself. Anyone know for sure?????

It appears based on the latest pension board minutes some responsible actions were taken for shoring up pension funding via fixed account allocations, future projected contributions, etc. Great job for all those that stay on top of these things and hold those responsible accountable.

As a retiree I will say we did not get a increase of 2% as the commissioners were thinking. We didn't receive as usual any increase. But glad I am retired from DeKalb. I did my 34 years in hell now I free. Be safe brothers in that war zone!

I was excited enough to post a thought :-) I do have a

Is it simply me or do a few of these comments appear like left by brain dead visitors?
:-P And, if you are posting on other places, I would like
