So It Comes Down To Our Pension

So, it comes down to our pension. The residents of south DeKalb, aka Greenhaven, want to opt out from the county and become a city because they think they are paying more then their fair share into our pension.

Nice of them to use our pension as a political football.

They claim south DeKalb can become self sustaining and viable. Have they driven down Candler Road lately?

Well all of you YES men & women have no one to blame but yourselves. You've sat back and let things devolve to this point where even the s side doesn't want to be associated with your county govt. On the upside, no newer employees will ever stick around long enough to collect a pension so funding will subside as soon as the last man standing under the old pension dies. God help you if you're still having to work there.

Can I get a collective "S H I T H O L E ! ! !" Get ready to pony up the deficit folks. But honestly, what else did you expect when you take your ques and orders from people who can't manage their OWN finances competently and legally.

Seems like someone is always attacking the pension that we earned and we paid into. The only thing worth doing this job was the promise of a decent pension because the working conditions and the pay were lousy at best.I think that the only thing to hope for is that someone with some sence is really looking out for our pension and that they realize that it will now never be fully funded and all we can hope for is good returns on our pension investments. I really hope we have good advisors investing for us to get a good return to keep the pension alive for us. I wonder how the returns we get compare to say, "CALPERS"? Can someone on the pension board give us the information? Thnaks.

Yes. all that running around 34 kissing butt and trying to please your boss means nothing now if the pension folds and puts us out on the street does it? We should have put all that butt kissing and boss pleasing into intelligently looking toward our future...our pension...The county never wanted us to be unionized so they could do what they felt like with us. Look what the politicians have done to Dekalb Co...all that had work we did is boiling down to ulser's worrying wether the pension will now survive till the last one of us dies...Nice thoughts huh?...well this is what we get for not looking out for ourselves isn't it !

This dept will be non-existent in 10yrs....On top of that we're so Top Heavy with command staff that I'm surprised we haven't capsized yet...like the island of Guam...Let me say this you have a group of citizens wanting to form a new city because they're tired of the corrupt politics the county currently has and these are the same people that elected the current and past administrations that has brought us to this point...what a bunch of idiots!! and I say that kindly.

DeKalb County politicians do not care about anything but themselves. They all promise the world before election, then deliver "shit" after getting elected or reelected, either way, it doesn't matter.

Calling DeKalb County everything under the sun is putting it mildly. This county has been and will be totally fucked up until a major change comes along if ever.

When there are idiots running a government and the employees are expecting perfect results from the masters, in this county that is not on or ever has been on the horizon.

Comparing DeKalb County to CLPERS, not on the same level as DeKalb is much more stupid.

The Feds might take over at some point which will be worse than what it is now......Grin and bar it if you are an employee.

As legislation is currently being proposed to make all police officers wear body cams, the same should be required of elected officials or even moreso as they have the potential to do much more criminal damage given their history of corruption here in Dekalb.

And the people that keep voting for them ....well I have no suitable words for them....my vocabulary does not reach those depths of negativity.

If nothing else makes your blood pressure raise, think about this!!!
Vernon's joke of employees and Burrell's staff. Remember the few that got a 47% pay increase for answering phones and shuffling paper work???
2 terms=8years
Early outs whom took it got an additional 2 years added to the 8 to make 10 to get vested.
They put maybe, just maybe a little under 2K into pension and retired??? and their drawing how much now???
Better yet, does monthly insurance premium make your skin crawl and wonder why our premiums are so high????
Truth of the matter is that when you add your wife and children to the county insurance a family plan with wife and kids is at a max rate.......WHY????
Because when you add your children.........what is the only question the county ask????? Their name and dates of birth.
No birth certificate to confirm names of the children. This means that what exactly????
Without all the information...just think out of all the county employees of all the children that have been added that are cousins, nephews, best friends kids that are getting a free ride on county insurance.
BOTTOMRE LINE....this is the reason for such high rates because of all of the hits from the medical professions for re-embarrassment for treatments.
If you don't believe me, just take a few minutes and call around and get some quotes on insurance.
Between pension payments and insurance premiums and pay outs for bullshit law suites due to stupid moves from lazy officers trying to hide bad work, it is just a matter of time....DeKalb will be like Fulton County.
It starts in the middle of the city and spreads out like dropping soap into a puddle of grease.
Mark my words......time is catching up with us and this place will look like a nuclear waste land if downtown Decatur doesn't suck us dry first.

Officer Zero
P.s. 10-12 in the lot waiting for a unit so I can start work.

It must be depressing to reach 55 with 30 yrs of service and realize there isnt enough money in your 457 plan to retire. Pension was at $1.34 billion last quarter.

Thanks Mr Wall !!! These are the things we need to hear about. I bet consistant information updates like this would do away with negative comments. The lack of updates breeds suspicion.

Officer zero. Please take the awesome training here and put your skills to use somewhere else. When officers leave dekalb pd they do well. If the boc is overwhelming you any mickey mouse dept ie Brookhaven Dunwoody Chamblee Lithonia. ...will hire you. But remember. Im retiring at 24 years here. My pension will be paying me 3k a month for the rest of my life. For a 401k you need to have 700k invested to get that kind of payout.

Cities inside DeKalb receive county services on some levels (Sheriff, Sanitation, Water and Sewer...etc.)It is reasonable for them to support the pension as those in unincorporated parts of DeKalb do.
Whatever we can do to help in this goal would benefit us.
