Dekalb County Introduces New Police Chief, Mirtha Ramos
she claims she is here based on her Ethics and Professionalism, she wants to get to know the troops and see what can be improved.

I don't want to judge her so fast, I am willing to give her a chance I just hope I am not disappointed again. I have read all the comments from the blogs in Miami-Dade and the comments on facebook for current and former Dekalb police.based on the comments she is a nightmare but who knows maybe she will turn over a new leaf and help us out.

I feel so sorry for Dekalb county Police, I am a 20 year veteran from Miami Dade and we are celebrating that she has left our department. My best advice is to watch your back and do not believe a word that comes out of her mouth.

the blogs in Florida refer to her as satan, I hope this is not true. Dekalb needs a real Chief and someone to cut all the fat at the top and get rid of the B/S. its time for Yarbrough, Porter and some others to retire. they are useless and are just trying to kiss ass to save their jobs.

I hope she wipes out the entire command staff and starts over, these people have done nothing but kill morale and create tension among the officers.

The most disappointing thing is that there aren't any good cuban restaurants here they are all in Miami.

Current Miami Dade here, she holds grudges and is very vindictive. I recommend stay away and don't trust her. She had a close group of friends for a long time and she stabbed three in the back to get promoted.

Watch your backs. The enemy from within comes at you with a smile

Rather than to hope for the worst. I pray the new chief of Dekalb Police succeeds. Regardless of the past if theirs even one at all. I will give her a chance. Yes Dekalb County has problems like the rest of the world. The biggest problem within the Police Department is unity and respect. Officers please stay strong and try to make Dekalb a better department. A new chief cant do it alone, God Bless........ ( Retired Officer)

I too have an open mind and am hopeful that the new chief will be a good change for our department. I have had hope in every new chief we have had, but unfortunately, I have bee disappointed every time. let's face it the Director and the Chief are simply puppets for the commissioners. it saddens me to see how low this department has become.

I worked for this woman for 8 years and it was the worse 8 years of my 17-year career. I have never met a person who is so power-hungry and enjoys making people's life miserable. I had a Lt. who had planned a birthday party for his autistic child and on the day of the party she made the Lt. work a detail and miss the party. I am telling this woman has evil in her heart.

What’s the difference between the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office and the Dekalb County Police Department? I have an idea just a little confused on why both have County on the name.

Curtis Williams is driving the new Chief around and showing her the ropes. this is a sign of things to come, Dekalb allows someone who should have been fired over numerous different reasons be the one person to drive our new chief around and tell her about Dekalb. the FBI filed a formal complaint against him for trespassing at the super bowl and nothing was done to him. you can't make this crap up, only in Dekalb does this level of dysfunction exist.

Lumpkin did not want her as chief, he wanted the chief from Chamblee, but he was overridden by the CEO who is an idiot. The CEO holds all the strings to the command staff and calls all the shots. the only thing our command staff has say so in is how they can screw with the officers and morale of this place. we are doomed i feel sorry for my troops and my Lt's anything above the rank of Lt is just an ass-kissing assignment. I pray each day I can help someone and help teach an officer how to be a better officer and a better person. I try to encourage them to remember the oath they took and do not let our dysfunctional leaders get to them.

I have never met this new chief. So far it doesn't sound good but I will still hope for the best. I do know that Curtis Williams is dumb as a box of rocks.

I’ve noticed more much needed traffic enforcement lately. Don’t know if that’s a directive from the new Chief but keep up the good work.

If any are worried about DKPD's reputation now, let me refresh all of you of the past.
1. Murder (assassination) of Officer, unsolved. Read the file.
2. Apply the law equally and fairly to all. You are labeled "not a team player".
3. Superior Officer orders a paddy wagon stopped, attempting to stop arrest.(Golfland Motel)
4. Superior Officer sends lackies to judge, dismissing an arrest before it is judicated.
5. Superior Officer accuses officer of stealing his legally owned car. (Cleared by CID)
6. Promotion board has list to promote before interviews conducted. (info from Command member.

Why remain with this department?? Retirement check, otherwise, I would not have remained for 5 minutes.

They both are separate entities. The Sheriff runs the jail, security for the courts and serves warrants. The police handle patrol/911 calls for unincorporated parts of the county.
