"Lions and Lambs" gets front page

Where are you Vernon? Come on, stand by your man. You were so convinced about hiring this moron over other qualified candidates in light of his past termination. After all you both are birds of the same feather, so much in common. Both empty shells that like to surround themselves with inept clowns. All about the glitter and the glam, the cars you drive and the places you're seen. No content, no principles, no honor and certainly no leadership.

You are just a slick tongue in an Armani suit. I remember the first time I saw you at the crime scene in front of murdered Sheriff elect Derwin Brown’s house (Lots of media there). Up until then we (the rank and file) had only heard the rumors about your huge ego, your thug protective detail (Curtis Williams-now a Major, Don Flank-now a Deputy Chief, and Buck West-don't know where he is, most likely in jail). We heard about how you made people call you, "Mr. CEO" and how all the new seals behind you at press conferences where made to look like the White House, State Department, etc.

But it all came into focus when we saw a motorcade approaching the crime scene with brand new black SUVs with blue emergency lights flashing from every orifice; and the best part was the two small flags on the hood of your SUV!!! You really did think you were presidential. Then your thug detail with their Secret Service style lapel pins opened the door for you and you and your band of idiots traipsed through an active crime scene. I mean hey, we were only trying to preserve evidence in the murder of Sheriff-elect Derwin Brown.

Was there any part of your run as CEO that was not controversial or tainted with scandal? From rape allegations to grand jury investigations to twice appointed clowns as police chiefs, you never failed to out do your previous moronic act.

I'll sum this up; you forced out one chief for not taking the blame over your money-pit security detail, you replaced him with Graham who racially divided the department and gutted moral and finally brought in Bolton to administer the Coup de Grace. Now were left taking out the garbage and it looks like Ellis has tossed the first bag to the curb.

Lets look at all those you rewarded with fast-track promotions who did nothing more than drive you to night clubs while they were on county time or running their ex-wives’ new boyfriend’s through NCIC to get personal information. I mean come on, Curtis Williams in charge of a precinct as a Major? He was just a sergeant a few years ago? Not a good one either and certainly not the brightest bulb in the chandelier. Don Frank a Deputy Chief? What merits was he promoted several ranks on? Boy Vernon, these guys must have some major dirt on you. Deputy Chief Bush? Who is this guy?

If I didn’t mention your name don’t think that gives you a pass, it’s just that this post is already long enough. Did we really need to bring those other deputy chiefs over from Atlanta Police? Let me tell the citizens of DeKalb that there are some extraordinary leaders in DeKalb Police who are of legend. There is plenty of talent in our ranks so there is no need to go next door to Atlanta to recruit. Because of your actions Vernon, DeKalb lost many legendary true-blue officers and leaders.

That’s the great thing about this blog, the truth can rise to the top from where the rubber meets the road and all who read it get to see the dirty truth. I encourage the citizens to help keep this house cleaning front and center and you will get back to the professional department you deserve.

Mr. Ellis, good start with O’Brien. He is a good man with good values. Now, let’s put a microscope on the department’s upper management and cut out the remaining cancer that Vernon left us with. After that we can get back to the business at hand, proud officers protecting streets they believe are worthy of such a noble deed.

Vern as he loves to be called a few years ago demanded that a firefighter be fired for yelling Hey Vern to "MR CEO" this was when he was off duty civillian clothes picketing at the Maloof Building. Mr CEO forced Eddie Moody's resignation over refusal to lie over whose idea the security detail was, Vern wanted Eddie to lie to the grand jury. Mr CEO's transgresssions against the citizens are almost limitless but received scant notice for some reason. I wonder why?

Speaking of leadership, I here the Command Staff, led by Chief Rancifer and Major Yarbrough, is in the process of developing a 'Leadership' course which will be mandatory for all Lieutenants to attend. Apparently our Lts are lacking in their leadership skills. Haaaaaaaaaaaaa! This is coming from the same Command Staff that has run this department into the ground because of their lack of leadership! What qualifications do they have to teach leadership? Who would you rather have LEAD you into battle - your lts, or the Command Staff?

The rumor of the training class is apparantly true. Should kick off around April. I wonder who will teach it, since we are bereft of leadership at that level anyway. Is anyone going to design a Leadership Course for those annointed Command Staff chumps?? The problem is there, not at the line level.
I don't think that we will hear much from VJ. I think that he is more worried about what Marguerita Williams is spilling to the GBI, FBI, KGB, IUD or whomever. He knows that he hired TeBo to warn him of any pending investigations and to obstruct any that may start.

Are you kidding? Are you KIDDING? Yarbrough and Rancifer are putting together a class on leadership? What could they possibly teach our lieutenants about leadership? Hell, you actually have to know something about a topic before you can teach it. These guys just don’t understand that NO ONE likes them, trust them or has any respect for them. They are Bolton boys (Rancifer is also a Vernon Jones guy) and they are part of the command staff that has done horrible things to this department. I trust my lieutenants much more than I trust these two arrogant jack asses. Now I could understand if Yarbrough and Rancifer wanted to teach a class on telling BIG FAT LIES because they both have a P. H. D. in that topic.
King Bolton may be gone but the court jesters are still running around the castle!

Leadership class?? Now that is funny. I heard the class will also be mandatory for sergeants. I also heard that one of the lead instructors for this class is Capt. BC Harris. WOW!

The Lesson Plan

First lesson on being a Dekalb County Supervisor:

Never speak directly to an individual or a team that is doing something wrong or not performing in an acceptable manner when you can chew on the whole team or the whole department.

Addressing the "problem child" individually makes too much sense.

That my friends is something I see time and time again at our Department.

I encourage all officers to begin to post some insight and background (Good and bad)on these current fast-track managers that were promoted more than one grade at a time or in a time compressed manner. The Marines are pretty good at making leaders and follow these principles and traits. Do your Lts, Capts, Majs, Dep Chiefs, and Asst Chiefs have these qualities? Please advise.

Dependability- The certainty of proper performance of duty.
Bearing- Creating a favorable impression in carriage, appearance and personal conduct at all times.

Courage- The mental quality that recognizes fear of danger or criticism, but enables a man/woman to proceed in the face of it with calmness and firmness.

Decisiveness- Ability to make decisions promptly and to announce them in clear, forceful manner.

Endurance- The mental and physical stamina measured by the ability to withstand pain, fatigue, stress and hardship.

Enthusiasm- The display of sincere interest and exuberance in the performance of duty.

Initiative- Taking action in the absence of orders.

Integrity- Uprightness of character and soundness of moral principles; includes the qualities of truthfulness and honesty.

Judgment- The ability to weigh facts and possible solutions on which to base sound decisions.

Justice- Giving reward and punishment according to merits of the case in question. The ability to administer a system of rewards and punishments impartially and consistently.

Knowledge- Understanding of a science or an art. The range of one's information, including professional knowledge and an understanding of your Marines.

Tact- The ability to deal with others without creating offense.

Unselfishness- Avoidance of providing for one's own comfort and personal advancement at the expense of others.

Loyalty- The quality of faithfulness to country, the Corps, the unit, to one's seniors, subordinates and peers.

the Major really has none of those traits he could careless about his troops he has been overheard saying things to that effect the only thing he could lead was a hair gel research group

there are some LT that have zero true leadership skills but to have those 2 teach leadership is like the blind leading the blind

Can someone educate me on what kind of leader Asst.Chief Helms is. I only remember him as the Lieutenant over the police academy and the words lackluster and spiritless come to mind over his performance there. He did seem to champion the cause to water down academy training. We were once known for having one of the most rigorous academy's in the country. What exactly did he do to rise to the rank of Assistant Chief? Maybe J.T. Irwin should be in that position instead.

Sevral officers were asigned to his home when vernon just got elected to ceo, his daughter got caught driving dui coming home. He ordered us to let her go since she was so close to home. That was my 1st impression and the vision of the future.

Get the facts guys, that leadership class originated from Captain/Major meetings. Obviously they think you need it.

From what I understand, only Rancifer would provide decisions at an operational level. Rancifer was a helo pilot with zero street experience, right or wrong, at least he was making decisions when no one else was...

Harris knows alot about leadership. After all, he's a Colonol in the Alabama National Guard. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! THE ALABAMA NATIONAL GUARD!! Haaaaaaaa! Enough said!

I've taken leadership classes and gone to a leadership school in the military. I'd gladly go to one here and listen to what anyone has to say. But a much better idea would be to hire professionals to give the class and have all supervisors attend as manpower permits. Sadly this department has never adequately trained it's supervisors and this needs to be corrected. I think the problem here is who is being picked to give such leadership courses.

The fact that you have been promoted to a certain level of rank within the department does not qualify to give such a class. Most classes I've been to start off with the instructor giving their credentials. Capt. Harris has a long list of qualifications and whether I always agree to his tactics or not I feel that he brings the proper qualifications. The other two names that have been discussed I won't commment on due to not knowing their past leadership experience and qualifications.

Again let me stress I think this is a good idea. The problem is having people so close to the situation giving the classes. That is why you leave and go off to Squad Leader School, NCO School, OCS, TBS, War College and etc in the military. It gives a level of authority and prestige.

Chief O'Brien, will you please put the kibosh on King Rancid and his Lackey Yarbrough about this nonsense about a leadership class? Yarbrough could teach a class about being a germaphobe and Rancid could teach one about being a liar, cheater and manipulator, that's about it..

I agree with the poster who commented about Helms and Irwin. They should trade jobs. When Irwin was my academy class's instructor you knew were getting the BEST training around. DKPD's academy was top-flight then, and Irwin's emphasis on officer survival was appreciated.
