Study Shows DeKalb Could Eliminate 909 Jobs, 33 Percent of Those Are In The C.E.O. Office

Will the commissioners do the right thing and get the county budget under control, or will they kowtow to the possible lost votes of laid off family members?

We're betting they will spin the study done by Georgia State University and make some kind of ridiculous statement like Micheal Bell got it right and GSU got it wrong.

The AJC points out "DeKalb, Cobb and Gwinnett’s populations differ by less than 100,000 residents. DeKalb has 8,077 employees, while Cobb has 4,600 and Gwinnett has 4,800."

"DeKalb has more residents who live below poverty level and twice as many police calls for service." Can we be any prouder?

If Burrell Ellis is having a hard time trying to decide who to layoff from his staff, we suggest he start with Shelia Edwards, Michael Bell and W.Z. Miller

He will never do that , but its the right direction to take in this economy.

I think Director Miller is his "I run the police and fire department" do as I say.

Fire the fireman and appeal, why do we have a merit system?

Burrell Ellis....once again cut back your staff hmmm continuing to see a trend here? Public Safety is the only thing suffering in this county....everyone else is living off the Fatta Da Lan as Lenny would say....cut the crap keep the basics, lets start at square one and fire these Perps we call management/bosses

I was one who thought Ellis would do the right thing after the mess created by Mr. CEO. Alas, I was wrong. If you're an "FOE", that is "Friend of Ellis" you will be fine. Unfortunately those who work hard for the county will end up on the losing side.

Privatizing sanitation would be a big step in the right direction.

Ellis has 7 people working for his office who are being paid from other departments. Excellent.

You're working the numbers to look good, aren't ya Vernon (I mean, Burrell)?

Privatize Sanitation is the best move for that department....in my county, sanitation is privately run.

Next, they could do that same as the private companies do in my home county....they pick up trash one day a week!

This is a cost savings that makes perfect sense...it saves money without impacting services/standard of living. Garbage is picked up one day a week in my neighborhood and I don't smell of see it lining the streets.

Come on Ellis...you're quick to furlough us... do something that makes sense.

Well considering that sanitation consists of ex-cons primarily, at least we could rid the department of human waste.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the Commissioners or the CEO to follow these recommendations. When is the last time DeKalb County followed the recommendations of a study like this? Bolton is proof they don't!

What do you think Little Vernon will do with the study.

Atlanta Mayor trying to give raises, and where do we stand on that issue today.

Where can we get a copy of the report? Webmaster can you post it?

Taxes don't fund Sanitation. Sanitation pays for itself(from service fees).

"Service fee" is just a euphemism for taxes. Sanitation is a bloated department with a number of perps on the payroll (don't ask me, ask the Magistrate Court judge who said he was tired of seeing sanitation employees in his courtroom).
