Stupid Question Of The Week: Too Much Staff In DeKalb County?

With Burrell Ellis having 29 staff positions in his office, the county just may be over staffed just a bit.

The only thing changed from Vernon Jones and Burrell Ellis is the C.E.O. office address.

Look how many SOD officers are assign to guarding his office and the Maloof Bld.

It's more than the former CEO had in his circle.

This could be a budget cut .

I don’t think it is fair to compare Ellis to Vernon Jones. I mean with Jones you are talking about a racist criminal. Overall I think CEO Ellis is trying to do the right thing and he supports the police. He recognized Bolton for what he was and that means something in my book. If you don’t recognize the fact that he came into a very tough situation and tough budget restraints then you are blind.

Now that doesn’t mean that I am opposed to criticism directed toward Ellis. He has not done everything right and if this web site or anybody for that matter wants to call him on it, I say do it, but just be specific. I still think he should fire Shelia Edwards. I also think Ellis is too soft at times. Sometimes in leadership positions you have to kick some ass, even if it isn’t very popular.

But overall Ellis has good intentions. Vernon Jones? Well, he has the same intentions as Al Capone or John Gotti.

Too Much Staff In DeKalb County? Yes! And I see little room for argument!

I will not get into the details of the GSU report or the AJC article, most of you have read them and have personally observed the BS detailed in the reports.
The first thing DeKalb needs to do is abolish the CEO's office and reinstate the county manager/commissioner form of government.
We need to ditch at least a quarter of our managers, directors and administrative staff, and concentrate on core government functions and privatize the rest.
Even if DeKalb government is to somehow reinvent itself as "lean and mean", the citizens are still faced with a dysfunctional and expensive school system that sucks up 70 percent of the local taxes. With the voting record of DeKalb citizens I would not expect much to be done to repair the school system. DeKalb citizens are the key to fixing the school system and they are not engaged and vote their leaders in for the wrong reasons.
The only thing DeKalb has going for it is that by law they must balance the budget.
I really feel badly about leaving you in a lurch mates! On the other hand our leaders do not listen to employees that want to make DeKalb a better, and efficient government. (they don't even want to look at the GSU study) Better to get out while the going is good. Best of luck, guys....
