It would be a pleasant change to see police brass take preventative measures for ONCE as opposed to simply reacting after the chaos. For example, how about implementing policy NOW to stop police responding to courtesy type 911 calls such as alarm calls, neighbor disputes, etc in an effort to free up officers to back one another while being furloughed. After all it is this type of policing that has caused the current societal drain of resources. Citizens will be forced to take some self responsibility now since "911 babysitting" can no longer be afforded.

Of course you would have to have innovative persons in high ranking positions and we ALL know this ins't the case due to undeserving appointments and promotions. This has FINALLY come back to haunt them and the obvious fallacy of former and present elected officials is obvious in every attended administrative meeting. Lets just call it "Dumb Meets Dumber."

Having attended these meetings I must agree. The ego is debilitating by nature. If one of the "big boys" can't claim fame to the ideas on the table then they are rejected universally. It is like trying to reason with a five year old throwing a tantrum. This is especially true when interacting with Chief K. or Major S.

You would think they would realize those pulling the strings here and in other working realms are the same ones that have been passed over for those much less qualified and are PISSED OFF. But no, they are oblivious to it, just as they are in every other aspect of leadership.

Hello Everyone,
TO ALL IN OUR COMMUNITY AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES PLEASE HELP!!
We just heard that Sgt. Woods has received a promotion to lieutenant and will probably be moved from south precinct very soon. We are happy that Sgt. Woods is getting a promotion for all of the hard work he has done in our community, however, we do not want him to leave. There is no reason why he cannot stay here as Lieutenant. We understand that it is common practice for officers to be moved to another area when they are promoted, but losing Sgt. Woods now would take away one of our greatest assets.
We must not let this happen. We need to send emails to the safety director, chief of police and Major Williams of south precinct immediately (by this Monday morning). Also post on all our websites including face book, that we do not want Sgt. Woods moved from south precinct. He has been a moving force in helping the communities against all the crime problems in our areas. He knows and has an understanding of the communities, the residents and its crime problems. No other officer has the respect of the communities as Sgt. Woods. He is trusted by the communities and has full support of us all. He has made a difference and continues to do so every day.
The worst crime that could happen to us would be to lose him. We cannot and will not lose Sgt. Woods!! It took a long time for the communities to trust any officer of law, but Sgt. Woods never gave up and won. Please, we aren't just asking but begging you to please listen and hear us. This is not the time, with the problems of crime and drugs in our areas, to pull him from south precinct and make this change.
Respectfully,
The Residents of South Precinct Communities

Oakland Police Department stopped responding to alarms and accidents so it's really not a stupid idea. Oakland is doing it and it seems to be working well.
So that tells me your the idiot commander who sits and rules from your throne.

Anonymous said...

The problem with DKPD is none of the police commanders are in charge of anything. The police department is run from the CEO's office via Wiz Miller. All of the major and up commanders are hand picked to not make any waves and are just counting the days until retirement.

Oakland PD.......They laid off 80 cops.....it doesn't look like that helped them.

Anonymous said...

I couldn't care less how many calls are pending as it isn't my job to staff this dump. The county will ultimately get sued for negligent staffing however. You can only safely handle one at a time.

Anonymous said...

Yep, Dekalb is a microcosm of what's to come for the rest of the country if we continue on this path. You voted it in office so reap what you sew. ENJOY...

Anonymous said...

CITIZENS!! You need to pay attention here -- and stand up for law enforcement, if you want to feel safe in your community.

Yes - 80 officers were laid off in Oakland. But alarms and traffic accidents are not the only crimes police can no longer respond to. Also on the list are:

GRAND THEFT
BURGLARY
IDENTITY THEFT
VANDALISM

They have also said they would not be able to register SEX OFFENDERS in person.

Moment of silence to absorb the ramifications of this happening in Dekalb ...

Is that what you want in Dekalb County?? For some reason, law enforcement has not been a priority for those in charge. So if YOU don't let the CEO and BOC know that it should be their FIRST priority, they will continue down a path that will take us to a place you don't wanna go.

As I've said before, who cares about things like the lines in Recorders' Court?? If you don't want to stand in line, don't get a damn ticket. Our money needs to go to a much more important place.

We need happy, healthy, trained and skilled, fully equipped officers - it IS possible. It is.

But they can't fight this battle alone. PLEASE make your voice heard. Educate yourself on this issue, and write-call-attend BOC meetings. Whatever it takes to let them know they are NOT doing a good job.

Thank you,
Ima Citizen

Working with line officers day to day the department overall has essentially NO idea how many officers are in the process of leaving for other agencies. It's about to have a HUGE impact on first responders. It's probably a great deal too late now for the BOC to correct this sinking ship. You can't argue they didn't have ample warning however.

Funny, because you know they each read this blog waiting to see if their dirty secrets will be revealed to the public and media alike. And they WILL in due time I assure you...

What with all the white shirts being worn Lieutenants?

Anonymous said...

They want to be a target at night.
Least I can spot them in the dark.
If he likes the shirts, that all that matters. I hear black is coming for the common folks. We continue to find money for certain things.

Anonymous said...

They're wearing white shirts because KliesWRTAH is too busy worrying about minutia to notice and deal with the real problems facing our department.

p said...

Where is the county getting the money for these black shirts? Where did they get the money for the new precinct?

Anonymous said...

Chief K demanded white shirts for the Lts, even those working at night. Brilliant. Unlike the black shirts (even replacement for the gray shirts), the white shirts DID cost extra money.

Anonymous said...

Jeez if we don't respond to alarms, accidents, and quit writing tickets more than half of ya wouldn't know what to do.

Anonymous said...

Funny how the ones mentioned here making all the demands are the same ones that sued for each of their promotions. Respect is earned sir, not obtained via lawsuits.

Anonymous said...

Just a novel idea here, lets not cut what calls we respond to, lets repair the problems. CHARGE for these false alarms and use the revenue for PD not BOC. Citizens the way you want to keep a good officer in your area fight these idiot politicians and help keep all the good officers in DeKalb. Eliminate the Public Safety Director, CEO security staff, Fraudulent contracts with Ellis' friends to service our cars, etc. Vote these morons out. They are ruining your county. When those who lead become unable to listen to those they are supposed to lead you have chaos. Personnel are scared to do their jobs for fear of scapegoating as previously witnessed. Serious concerns are muted or covered with transfers or demotions. Morale is at an all time low when we are led by a CEO that promised you public safety as a priority. Chiefs are nothing more than figure heads under this system. Wake up and support the ones who serve you. DeKalb has one of the highest tax rates in the state yet always seems to be broke. Demand the corruption stop, form a taxpayers watch dog group and hold these politics feet to the fire. Lets keep up getting out the word and pass on any info. that needs to be passed on.

Anonymous said...

Who cares what shirts Lieutentants wear? They used to wear white many years ago and had their own in-service. Does that really bother you that much??? Get over it already.

The problems witht this county starts and ends with the politicians. All department heads are powerless. All it takes is for the CEO or commissioner to call over and demand something and it has to be done. For the police department this is exactly what many of you asked for. Everyone was so ready to get rid of merit protection for the chief now see what it gets you.

For those of you wishing to eliminate alarms or accidents. Here's a news flash for ya...the citizens won't allow that to happen. They want you to respond to those calls. We can all bitch and moan until we're blue in the face in won't make a difference until the citizens demand a change.

Anonymous said...

I remember when another Public Safety Director wanted white shirts.

It was because he did not know anyone and wanted to make sure who he approached was a supervisor.

Uniform should be uniform for everyone wearing the same uniform.

Anonymous said...

As far as uniforms go, this departmernt never really understood the defination of "uniform" It means all the same. Not every other section wearing different uniforms or variations there of. I attribute this to rarely having anyone in a commant position that has ever served in the military.

Anonymous said...

sorry...command position

Anonymous said...

Get over the uniform issue; they stopped ordering grey and are going to order black...there's no extra expense to it. Yes, everyone will have to be issued new shirts, but we all had to switch out these grey rags about every six months. Hopefully the new shirts will last longer.

Anonymous said...

Easy baby. I think the uniform issue is a smoking gun....

Anonymous said...

Highlarious! Looks like we're not the only ones laughing at our "leaders"!!

A certain Asst Chief thinks white shirts are sharp. Well he took a visit to another state and they had white shirts. He came and said they look sharp and guess what in his mind we look sharp. So we have white shirts. Where is the Chief on all these decisions. I guess we are UNIFORM?

Anonymous said...

White Shirts Suck.

Anonymous said...

They have not issue a General Order for white shirts. This come from passing the word from one kiss ass to another kiss ass. This was the best I could put it. We are in a finale destruction mode. When 2011 comes what could be worst.

Wait overtime and I know the secrets.

Anonymous said...

Sheriff Department is spending more on overtime today than a year ago. They are are not furlough and still receive overtime.

The S.O. is interviewing for positions , who would not apply to avoid a pay loss for the year. They still get all Holidays and overtime to boot.

Wake up BURRELL...... this place is going down.

I know you have a driver and body guard and a big fancy SUV to ride around every day.

Anonymous said...

Let me tell you on white shirts , they stick out in the dark. I was at a domestic and the only reason the husband came out is he saw the white shirt and said he knew our boss was on the scene. I'm glad it was dark and he saw who to take out first.

I feel your pain.

Anonymous said...

Final destruction mode because Lt's are wearing white shirts????

What about all those years prior to 2000 when Lt's were wearing them? I would suggest that they be optional for the morning watch guys like in the past.

Who knew shirts were such a controversy? Doesn't take much to get you guys going does it?

Anonymous said...

Hey Dekalb Officers why dont you get together and fight for a real cause. No one really cares about what color shirt they wear, what youguys need is your merit raises that have been witheld for 3 years. Lets fight together to see if the BOC can find it in there hearts to go back and give you the percentage you deserve. For example if you are owed %10 from the last 3 years then on your eval date you should get a %10 raise plus what you get on the new eval. I will help push for this as a concerned citizen because Dekalb Officers deserve the best. Lets push for this on future coments. This is the best solution for both sides.

Dekalb is the new Detroit....Maybe we should make a show and call it Dekalb 187 and all the profits from the show go to merit increases and new efficient equipment all the camera crews would have to do is follow us around. Then people would see the "real Dekalb" and not some smoke screen put up by the B.O.C. Lets start prosecuting these perps and handing out hard time you want Dekalb to be a place where people want to live? Hell the only place good in Dekalb is Stone Mountain Park the only thing is you have to worry about getting carjacked, raped, robbed, or some drunk asking you for money. Ask yourself this Question B.S-O.C. how well do YOU really want Dekalb to prosper? Quit putting money in your own pockets with all these behind the scene deals, I hope your not code 4 when I pull you over cause your gonna be enroute this means you too Sutton....your not exempt, regardless of what my supervisor says I took an oath, and I intend to keep it unlike ya'll

Have Dekalb County employee's heard that David Fisher is coming back out of retirement to do more of nothing again? What the What!!! He did nothing for how many years he was here? And now he is coming back to the County to do more of nothing again but walk around with that darn camera bragging about all the money his in-laws have and all the luxury trips that his in-laws takes them on.

Come on CEO and COO this is a salary that could be put back into our budget for the raise's that we are LONG over due.

This is really a JOKE bringing David Fisher back to do more of NOTHING!!!!!

Anonymous said...

The BOC and B.E. are purposing furloughing all county employees for 19 day during 2011. So get ready to lose an entire months pay next year. If you don't already know about this you need to start paying attention to the BOC meetings.

How many black females do we need in Special Victims Unit. I see Chief Lane is putting all her buddies in place. Someone please look at this BS .I guess Major Felony is next for her ban of merry women to take over.

Anonymous said...

Yes, I agree she is filling cid with her people. Lt. HOgan got kicked out of wiz millers office just a few months ago and low and behold she has been rewarded for her drunk acts in public by being placed in the special victims unit. Can the white females in dkpd get a few favors please?

Fellow officers and detectives,

Come on y'all. Please stay focused on the most important issue here concerning all of us. PAY and BENEFITS! Not each other and who has what amongst ourselves (i.e. take-home vehicles, assignments, positions, etc). These were never issues amongst ourselves in the past so let's not lose sight now when PAY and BENEFITS are. We need to unite and stop bickering. The only voice out there right now for all of us whether you are a member or not is the FOP. And I strongly encourage all of you who are not to join as I did. PLEASE, knock it off with the pessimistic attitudes! Unless we unite as one voice (FOP) and focus on the main issue here affecting all of us, again that's PAY and BENEFITS, then things may never get better for us.

So, get proactive for yourselves and each other. Join the FOP. I think you will be pleasantly surprised and find you like their benefits as well as I have. You have to believe you can do something to make a positive difference around here for all of us if you ever hope for things to get better.

Stay focused! PAY and BENEFITS!

Thanks,

AL

Utter BULLSH!!!!!T! Officers are ALLOWING the commissioners and the laughable CEO, to dangle a carrot in the face of the Police Department; forcing officers to move forward hoping for a benefit(the damn carrot). But YANK!How many more yearss are MPO'S going to allow not to receive raises, as the cost of living going up but, and insurance. The County government has shown that they are only concerned with the INNERoffice, by giving raises, take home cars, spending stimulus money STUPIDLY. UNTIL, THE BAND OF BROTHERS ACTUALLY BAND, THE COUNTY GOV. WILL SEPERATE AND CONQUER! Miss Vernon yet!? damn grass aint always cleaner. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED IMMEADIATELY, MAYBE THE FEDS CAN HELP.
