Two Off Duty Officers Shoot And Kill Armed Suspect

Two of our own, working an off duty job in an apartment complex on North Hairston Road to make ends meet because of being furloughed, where forced to shoot and kill an armed suspect.

Thank God the officers were not hurt. The scumbag got exactly what he deserved.

The blood is on Wiz Miller and the Commissioners hands.

Details are sketchy, click here to read further.

Thank god the officers are ok!!

Look I'm all about the plight of officers and it sucks having to take furlough days but c'mon. Officers have been working part-times long before this and would work them if we got a 25% pay raise tomorrow. This constant statement of yours diminishes your argument and people will get tired of hearing it. Save it for when you really mean it.

What no magic bus sent to the scene? Paid administrative leave? (as opposed to a furlough).

Always like it when the good guys drop a bad guy. The Thin Blue Line is all we have between peace and chaos. Well done gentlemen.

There should be alot more of this. These low lifes won't hesitate to kill you so kill them first.

The blood is on Wiz Miller and the Commissioner's hands???????? Blogmaster, you do a fine job administering this website..... But, please explain to me HOW this was Wiz Miller's fault?
Or, the Commissioners for that matter....
You simply can not blame everything that happens on the Director, the Chief and the BoC.
Please stay realistic in your assessment. It keeps you credible!

Officers will always work part time jobs if they are available. They don't do so because of the CEO or the BOC. They might be working more of those jobs to make up for the furlough days. We can blame the CEO and BOC for creating an environment that nobody wants to work in. That's why quality people are leaving at a dangerous rate and the people we are forced to hire as replacements would have been rejected years ago. Our recruiters are not able to pick and choose the best candidates. It's come down to "can this candidate squeak by the background check and psychological evaluation?" If you want to be able to pick and choose so you have nothing but the best officers protecting your citizens, you can't treat the police department the way they are being treated. Treat us like shit, you're only going to be able to attract shitty people to work here.

This piece was way over the top the reason the scumbag is dead is because he deserves to be and the blood is not only on his hands but it is probably all over his miserable torso.

To Anonymous at 3:17... I don't know if you were responding to Anonymous at 2;30 or not. If so, your response did nothing to explain how any spilled blood was on the hands of the Director, the Chief or the BoC. The only thing that one might infer from your comment was that the county treats officers poorly and therefore the good officers have all left and the only officers left are the new "shitty" ones. You did not explain how the fact that this thug was killed by 2 officers working a part time job is the result of any action by the Director, Chief or BoC??? Is the blood on their hands for allowing the officers to work part time OR is the blood on their hands because you trying to say that the 2 officers who defended themselves were some of those new officers whom you describe as "shitty" and that they somehow killed this man for no good cause.....????????? I certainly hope that is not your argument, but it seems to be the case you have made. If you are an officer, you might want to re-think what you have written here. Blood on someone's hands generally infers that they are responsible for something. The only thing you have said is the county treats you badly and hired what you have determined to be less desirable candidates. Somehow, that makes the Director, the Chief and the BoC responsible for the fact that 2 officers had to take a man's life in defense of their own. My point before and my point now is: how was this in any way the fault of WZ, Bill or even the BoC. You have not demonstrated that in any way.

it sort is on the BOC I have been with the county for six years up until this year I have worked maybe 5 total part times, I never wanted to work off duty for the extra pay. I would rather spend it with my family. So yes BOC my family thanks you, I now spend 10 hours less a week with my family. Its ok though, my pay went down 10 percent on certain weeks, my tickets went down 80 percent to try keep me out of recorders court, so yea BOC you got one one me!!!

The post at 3:17 did not say anything about the officers being wrong in this shooting. It also didn't say they were crappy new hires. Stop trying to read into things, because you're clearly not intelligent enough to do so. The poster did not say anything about the shooting. They didn't say anything about the director or the ceo having blood on their hands. They simply pointed out that officers have always and will always work part time jobs and that the ceo and boc are treating the police department like crap. If you're a police officer, you proved 3:17 right about hiring crap.

Anonymous at 11:49... Why must it always come down to name-calling with folks like you? You somehow think I am not intelligent because I asked someone to explain the connection between the incident and the Boc? I clearly stated in the response that IF the 3:17 post was in response to the 2:30 post he had done nothing to explain the connection of WZ and the BoC to the shooting, as implied by the Blogmaster in the initial posting on the Home Page (try to keep up here). I also explained that the term "blood on his hands" as used by the Blogmaster, generally implies responsibility for something. Maybe you can explain how the BoC was responsible for this since, you are obviously the intelligent one. But I doubt it! The fact is, cops do work extra jobs. Always have and always will. The fact that these officers found themselves in the position of defending themselves against a threat of deadly force while working a part time job is nobody's fault except the thug they encountered. He alone is responsible for the outcome. To try to lay blame anywhere else but on him is an injustice. And that was the point in the posting at 2:30. The blood is on the thug and the thug alone. It has nothing to do with how badly the county is treating it's employees. If you think it is, you may want to rethink your intelligence level. I simply asked the Blogmaster to stay realistic in his/her comments to ensure continued credibity. The same point made by the 8:25 post!!!
By the way... I was hired long before you so, NO; I am not one of the new hires alluded to in your response or by the 3:17 post.

Good work to the officer who dropped him. SOB was armed and caught committing a crime in sight of two officers. There would be a young lady dead if it weren't for cops like these. Fine job.

Maybe the poster did nothing to explain the connection between the boc and the shooting because the poster didn't see one either. Does every poster have to explain why they think there is or why they think there isn't? Can't everyone just post their own thoughts? Read carefully! The post says nothing about this being the fault of the commissioners. But the poster did say the commissioners have created a horrible work environment. Not hard to understand!

Fine job exactly. First and foremost always is the safety and welfare of the good guys. Listen its really not important if your a veteran or a rookie we all have the same vested interest. That is to go home safely at the end of the day or night. We have to stick together with the issues facing all officers in our department. The greatest delight the administration can have is to see fighting within the rank and file. If they turn us against one another we become less organized and formidable force against them and their mistreatment. Stick together, do our jobs, don't worry about creating revenue for the crooks in Decatur, and keep up the fight. The two officers involved in this shooting probably have a lot of thoughts to deal with, support them and each other.

Why are people trying to use this event as an attack on the BOC? Officers have been working J2 for long before any furloughs or lost pay. Whether these guys had taken on this extra job to make up for lost pay or simply for extra money we really don't know. Only they know that.
I love this blog but lately it's beginning to resemble a mainstream political news channel with constant attacks that aren't really warranted.
Give credit where credit is due and complain when appropriate. Don't turn everything into a soapbox for an agenda. Yes we all hate the furlough days, pay reductions, lack of manpower, etc. but this really seems like a case where things happened independently of all that.
It's good that our officers are alright and were ready to act when the time came, and also that there's one less POS to deal with on N Hairston. Take it for what it is. It's a situation any of us could end up in regardless of what's going on in county politics at the moment.

No one said anything negative about these two officers! One poster said extra jobs had nothing to do with the board of commissioners, then changed the topic to how the board of commissioners treats us and how that has affected the department!
