He will only get a $2,000 bond from magistrate court and eventually probation in the Dekalb court system.

To Officer Fulton, get well soon brother we are with you. To Wiz; the director of so many departments, one not being the communications department, please stay hidden. To the BOC and CEO kiss me A** as usual. All your cronies get the fat raises and at the end of the day its the guys protecting you that end up in the hospital. Oh yea, you have to contend with paper cuts opening your checks or bed sores from sleeping until 9am each weekday. The scum bags elected to run this county will never understand what this officer went through that night or what his family felt. To the citizens showing your support a big thank you and to our brothers at FD thanks for getting oou backs. Now lets watch the DA bungle this one!

What a joke, listen guys, the BOC doesnt care about us, and the DA's Office doesnt care about us or citizens of DeKalb County. Wait, its just another black man and its DeKalb County, lets not put him in jail lets just give him probation, I mean come on guys.

Officer Fulton, what an amazing young man you are - thank you for your service, and godspeed with your recovery. What a wonderful tribute that your fellow officers caught this ignorant loser so quickly. He should spend the rest of his life in jail.

Face it.....The DC DA, The court system, Pardon & Parole, Probation are all nothing but a jobs program keeping the movement of our illustrious judicial system afloat. This large group of paid fatcats doesn't acccomplish much, but gets a lot of publicity in the process.

Regarding the magot who shot officer Fulton, he will get some free food, medical attention, maybe a shrink to figure him out, a little probation and/or a slap on the wrist. Officer Fulton might want to consider suing him in court.

To our officers on the front line daily, good luck, watch your back, make sure that you do not have rubber bullets, and hope and pray that the equipment that is furnished to you works all of the time and is in excellent condition.

You will never see the guys from IA at the pistol range unless they have to keep up the qualifing.

Good luck and God Bless all of you !!!

Oh, I will sue any scum that causes me any injury, suffering, etc. Perps should learn that there are more consequences as a result of their actions than just the criminal side of it. Even if they don't have a damn thing, I will still do it just for the principle. I'll take whatever asset that might have even if it is a POS car, furniture, TV, last penny. I'll go after them with a vengence.

Even if they have nothing you can have a judgement against them and collect any of their future wages as garnishment. They will certainly do it to you if given the chance.

Bravo Zulu on the capture of Hughes, well done guys and gals!
Very glad to see that both Fulton and Lacosta have been released from the hospital. I suspect officer Lacosta will have a lengthy recovery, please keep him in your prayers and give him the support needed to speed his recovery.
Now lets talk about why so many officers are getting shot during traffic stops. My hypothesis is that America has to many laws and regulations,so many laws that even with all the prison space, its not enough to hold all the convicts for the time they have been sentenced, resulting in convicts being released on probation that the convicts have no intention of obeying resulting in warrants being issued for failure to obey the probation terms and an immediate return to carry out the length of the sentence.
Hughes knew he was going to jail for 4 1/2 years after being identified by officer Fulton. Under the circumstances he decided to run and shoot rather than face the certain prison-time awaiting him.
We have a 40 year "war on drugs" that is the equivalent of the alcohol prohibition during the 20's and 30's and has resulted in no decrease in drug use. By any standard the program has been ineffective and led to innocent citizens such as Kathryn Johnston being gunned down by police for defending herself and property against what can best be described as "home invasion" by law-enforcement. Nearly every month we see a new incident where an innocent citizen is gunned down during a raid by SWAT.
Now even legitimate business and farmers are being raided by the Feds over unprocessed milk, bunny rabbits and wood used in musical instruments.
To date not one human has fallen ill or died from drinking raw milk, the bunny's are raised humanely, and the wood has been bought as certified compliant with federal regulations.
This is insanity, and you guys are in the trenches and taking the losses along with the citizen's.
The corrupt politicians that make the laws end up as millionares and the citizens with the best of intentions end up in jail or heavily fined.
I strongly suspect that every citizen in this country inadverdantly breaks some law every damn day.
Best of luck, guys!

Another officer involved shooting - another cheeky blogmaster lamentation that more people didn't get shot or die.

Face it officers, you are men just like anybody else. When people get shot and/or die, it's a sad and unfortunate event - no matter what the consequences. Why would you lust for more violence? I suppose you're just out for good old vengeance - but ask yourselves what other groups you encounter often who display that exact same pattern of behavior? Do you really want to be engaging in the same cycle they are in. I think not.

Be pleased that the violent bastard is behind bars and that nobody else got hurt. Isn't that enough?

To the several people taking shots at the DA's Office:

Right, its all the DA's Office's fault. Definitely does not have anything to do with anyone else. No shitty report writing, un-willingness to come to court, no intention of investigating anything past the point of probable cause...right keep telling yourself that the DA's Office just likes to give slaps on the wrist. That will accomplish a lot. Nice short sighted and simple minded thinking to believe that just because you lock someone up and write a shitty report that they get the max time in jail. Give me a break man...use your head. There is much more to the problem that the DA's Office or the police departments alone.

DA Robert James is a Joke and not a funny one.

If we had a Real DA, like Danny Porter in Gwinett, the DeKalb Board of Crooks would not be getting away with half the shit they are now.

Litl' Bobby James is just playing that old don't rock the boat and be safe political kiss assing crap with this poor excuse of elected officials through out DeKalb.

If Litl' Bobby were a real DA, Former Commissioner Connie Stokes would be charged with "theft by taking" for looting the Commission Office furnishings and Commissioner Jeff Rader would not be throwing his developer buddys Millions of Dollars.

DA Robert James is in no way Part of the Solution for DeKalb County. In Fact Litl' bobby is one of the Major Problems.

Hargh! I knew the post would be unpopular!
But lets face the facts. Why was Hughes released on probation after serving only six months? Because our jails are full of drug dealers.
The drug war has been unsuccessful by any means of measurement. As I have said before it is the modern day equivalent of the alcohol prohibition that was also a failure but at least the political leaders of the era were wise enough to recognize its failure and repeal the amendment after five years.
This does not mean I condone drug usage, but in the privacy of ones home, just how does smoking a spleef harm the rest of the citizens? This question does not extend to driving while intoxicated or abusing stronger and harder drugs as crystal-meth, heroin and the near limitless varieties of drugs developed with modern chemistry.
I merely suggest that by all obvious benchmarks the war on drugs has been a total failure and new ideas and tactics should be explored.
DeKalb Counties Drug Courts are a step in the right direction but as long as any drug usage is criminalized and prosecuted, our jails will be occupied primarily with low violence drug convicts that force the release of thugs like Hughes to maintain habituality standards.
Best of luck, mates!

Thank you to all the Dekalb officers, detective, sheriffs investigator, US Marshals, and Clayton PD/SO guy/gals who put in a lot of extra work in apprehending this guy!

Tired of Dekalb and its BS? Gwinnett has one hell of a DA and several great departments.
Alpharetta PD set its MINIMUM pay for master officers at 72,500 with a take home.
There are a lot of chiefs out there guys who will gladly talk to a dekalb officer whos tired of the crap.
