Open Enrollment

Click here for dates, time and location.

How is it that we hear of and see other local government and private sector insurance premiums historically lower then DeKalb County? What is the deal?

Of course open enrollment was to begin October 1, but now has been moved to October 17. Just over 2 weeks late, in typical county fashion.

And the beat goes on.

Open enrollment is another term for getting screwed by Dekalb County Government in the purest form.

There ain't no cheap anything on the horizon at your beloved county employer, only a superior screw job ahead. Remember, the flunkies are here to support the BOC & CEO and make sure they have the best.

So, sign your name on that dotted line and watch your hard earned money disappear into the pockets of those who do not deserve it

This is my prediction on our new health care.

The county is going to now offer one carrier, themselves.
Think about it, millions are already being given to Grady so why not just offer that to it's employees.
So there is your coverage for you and the family, savings would be abundant.

Its all about how much the county is willingly to pay on insurance packages. This county pays the least for everything that deals with benefits for employees.

Look at smaller departments and they have great insurance packages that take care of employees. There is no reason anyone would work here unless desperate for a job.

It has been awhile since I have posted on here. With that said the insurance I have for a family of 4, from my new employer, is $120 a pay period. That includes, eye, dental and free long & short term disability. Just co-pays…No deductible….. I am and always will be “ M gone and happy” P.S. Got my last check from Dekalb. 560 hours at 30 an hours.. You do the math… Was sweet.

Y'all have fun getting raped at Open Enrollment. I left awhile back and pay around $90 a pay period for a copay only family plan (4 people). Dekalb really has y'all brainwashed if you think you're getting a good deal. Did I mention I got a 35% pay increase just by leaving Dekalb......oh and I got a 4.5% merit raise and a 1.5% cost of living raise this year too. Y'all keep sinking with the ship! Don't say we didn't warn ya.....

I left for a department in Fulton Co, got a 35% pay raise the day I started, take home car, and even got a merit raise this year.

Dekalb blows.

To Anon 1002....

I come back around every now and then to make sure I still get my pension in a few years. That junk is frozen and on ice. I appreciate y'all paying for it through higher contributions!

Seriously guys, wake up and get out. No one should be treated the way y'all are treated. Dekalb has some fine people that work for it, but are abused by some bad leaders. Swallow your pride and go 10-8 elsewhere.

The AJC has a story that DeKalb hired a new Economic Development department director, link is:

http://www.ajc.com/news/dekalb/dekalb-hires-new-economic-1197809.html

There are two reasons I bring up the story.
First, in my opinion the Economic Development department isn't effective, The department does not bring many jobs to DeKalb county citizens. When you consider the salaries and office space costs the department is not cost effective, the amount of new jobs the department has brought to DeKalb citizens is unknown but if they had brought in new jobs or business we would all know about it because they would break out a press release and the AJC would publish the accomplishment. I cannot recall any story in the last three years of any jobs created by the Economic Development except for internal staffing.
Second, the salary of the new Economic Development director is a whopping $168,700 annually. The ED director has only about 20 professional staff to direct and little stress even when failing to attract new jobs and business to DeKalb County citizens.
In my opinion that is about 30 percent more than market salary.
In comparison I checked my old departments directors salary. My ex-departments director, titled Chief Information Officer supervises 80 technical/professional employees and does have a high stress level. The salary range is $89,772.00 - $145,896.00 Annually. The average salary is about 120 grand a year.
In my opinion the ED directors pay is a symptom of what is wrong with the salary structure of DeKalb government. We have too many people in political staffs making way too high of salaries for their job descriptions. On the other hand the vast majority of employees who do work hard under stressful conditions are making 15-30 percent less than market salaries.
The Economic Development department could be abolished with no noticable loss of service to the citizens, but instead millions are sunk into the department annually for little result.
My opinionated opinion,
KenC

The Board of Criminals is gonna vote tomorrow regarding our benefit options. Ill be there but I doubt many others will be.

We could be and should be more active in protecting ourselves from our employer (think about how sick that statement sounds) but as usual we aren't doing a dam thing. Showing up to critical meetings (such as the one tomorrow) and a spark to get the public in our corner (ex.a large billboard on the interstate somewhere)would be a good start, hell even a TICKET STRIKE, but that wont happen. Still don't know why I'm waiting on a miracle to happen here....this ain't 34th street and Chris Kringle don't work for DeKalb County

PS Those that left here....Keep on posting....You've earned that right in my book

The time to try and save this department is over. It's to late folks. We have criminals in Decatur who care for nothing but filling their own pockets, and ineffectual leadership within that can do nothing but constantly threaten officers if they don't write more tickets. Neither group gives a damned about the department's rank and file, and they really don't give a crap about real law enforcement. Find another job folks, I surely am. If you can freeze your retirement do so. If you can retire get out of here now before they take that away from us. But hey, if you stay maybe they'll let you drive a new car for a shift or two.

I think if I was a current employee I would cash out my pension IMMEDIATELY rather than surely lose it all to these thieving Democrats. MY wealth is not for your distribution to the lazy and inept.

I have yet to hear of anyone leaving Dekalb that didn't come out much better. Honestly, it's our brightest and best that continually leave.
