Publc Safety Director Lumpkin sends out an email, about the starting pay for Dekalb officers was posted inaccurate in a news story. He was upset that this information was incorrect and wanted it corrected.
I wonder what these officers will be making after 10, 15 or 20 years of  service.
Another email was sent out by the Director about the number 1 cause of officer death is suicide.
Does the new Director really care?

I hope he cares and is not just here to collect a check. Time will tell.

No he does not care about the officers, he is just putting on a good show.

If Director Lumpkin is so worried about the starting pay being published wrong because it will affect the number of applicants we get. Maybe he should look at the way to get and keep career officers is to give better pay and benefits from the starting salary and follow it up to a veteran officer as well. We have veterans who have given 18 to 28 years of service to this department and they are not topped out as MPO,s. So why come work for an agency that stops caring about you after 10 or 12 years. If you don’t take care of all the officers then you will not get anyone who wants to work for you.

Suicide is high with law enforcement, we are over worked and underpaid. We work 3 and 4 part time jobs to provide for our families because we are not paid by the county. So our families suffer and our marriages suffer and the department does not give two shits about us and our family’s, they just want those stats and revenue.

Lumpkin does care......about his Image but not about this department or the officers. The command staff kisses his ass and tells him this blog is just a handful of officers who are disgruntled and it’s not how most of them feel. Well you keep believing that crap because 75% of your department is unhappy because we are tired of being screwed by the county and it’s leaders. The commissioners get a big raise and the command staff received a pay parody raise but screw the officers they don’t need anything.

I pray that Director Lumpkin will be led by God to do the right and just thing for the officers of Dekalb police, I pray they will be shown the respect and gratitude they deserve. I pray they will be given better benefits and pay.

Lumpkin is too old. He needs to retire again and stay retired.

The pay of an officer is comparable to middle class america but that may not be sufficient if you are living beyond your means. Therefore you take out your frustration on those that truly support you. A majority of the officers do not live in DeKalb, therefore thry do not vote in the district in which they patrol therefore they have no vested interest. But the crime in DeKalb is still a reflection of these same officers that constantly complain They need to learn to be proactive and be approachable instead if having a stereotypical mentality. This blog is absolutely tearing down the department as well as the community, and just simply showing up for work is not grounds for a large raise!

Remainder: Other police agencies are hiring everyday!

Until you have strapped on a gun belt, and a badge and placed your life in your fellow officers hands then you do not know what is like to work in these conditions and take the crap we do from the public and the department. It’s easy to express your thoughts when you have never done the job, a simple thank you will do.

please do not compare middle America to first responders, that is an insult middle America does not leave home each day with a high probability of being shot or killed. middle America does not see the dark side of crime and the effects it has on us mentally and physically. Middle America is the backbone of our great nation and their hard work is greatly appreciated.
but you can't compare or make accusations about living outside of ones means when you don't know what is going on in our lives. you want to talk down to us and criticize us and point out all our flaws but as soon as the bad guys come around or you are scared you call us and want us there in a second, and we come as fast as we can and we handle the situation even tho we are not appreciated and we are not paid what we were promised for the last 15 years. we still do our job and do it well.

Director Lumpkin was brought here as a favor. He is too old to be doing this and to anal. Times have changed and the way and state of policing has changed. It’s not the 50’s and 60’s anymore. A/C Ector was brought in by Lumpkin as a personal gesture. They both sit around and have no clue what’s going on, but both make over 6 figures... the two literary have no clue what they are doing and are just their for show. We need someone younger, who can be involved in the department and the community and not just paperwork. They don’t speak or acknowledge you when you cross paths and they definitely don’t care about our pay or families. Everyone in the county and numerous other departments continue to get raises and better benefits, but we got a 1 time lousy 4%... The officers work their asses off for literally 1/4 of their pay... all we can do is pray that the two begin to see the light and hopefully, we pray to a God, the CEO and Director can chose a new Chief based on proper qualifications and not because they are buddies or political reasons.

This is the basic non-starter issue with DKPD in that they want all of the upside of corporate industry standards but don't want to pay for it. Meaning most other HR pay for supervisors, experienced officers, experienced tech fields to switch employers as needed, NOT requiring them to begin over as an entry level paid employee but equal to or better than their previous salary. The obvious result of the antiquated practices Dekalb adheres to is that you retain bare minimum performing employees and attract ZERO new talent. Most there are too dumb to even begin to comprehend this so you'll continue to get what you've been getting for decades.

Rumor is Monica Kaufman s husband is coming back...John Kaufman formerly known as John Pearson. Is the department doomed.

This department is so toxic that I would say your officer suicide risk is extremely high. Be glad he is concerned about the mental health of officers. People DO care about you and need you.
