Judge: DeKalb's Behavior In Discrimination Case "Shameful"

Judge Duffey described the behavior of DeKalb County attorney's as "either terribly incompetent or terribly wrong," Well Judge, you have only seen a glimmer of the true DeKalb County. DeKalb County is shameful.

The shame started in the year 2000 when the voters made Vernon Jones Chief Executive Officer. There was scandal after scandal including police officers assigned as his personal protection posse doing illegal background checks for Vernon's personal political gains, to officers doing illegal background checks on lovers and mistresses. Shameful, these same officers are still employed by the police department.

Shameful, as C.E.O., Vernon was accused of rape, but only admitted to participating in a ménage à trois. Shameful, he and his cronies deliberately transferred, demoted and terminated people based on nothing more than skin color. Shameful, he hired Terrell Bolton as chief of police. Shameful, the Recorders Court has 90 million dollars in uncollected fines.

Shameful, Burrell Ellis was a member of the county commission during Vernon's tenure and did not stand up! Shameful, Vernon was not reined in.

Shameful, Shelia Edwards, media director of now C.E.O. Burrell Ellis, displayed what some would describe as a psychotic episode on television for millions of people to see, without being punished or evaluated.

Shameful, under Burrell Ellis' watch, the county is described by a United States Federal District Court Judge as "either terribly incompetent or terribly wrong."

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Once a loser, always a loser.

At least the taxpayers of Georgia are not having to support this piece of dog squeeze.

Trial Begins To Decide Whether DeKalb County Discriminated Against White Managers

The county had the opportunity to settle out of court but refused. This trial could cost the county, which is already financially broke, millions of dollars it doesn't have.

And to think, Vernon Jones was in office for 8 years.

The Case For Torrey Thompson

On September 12, 2006 during his lawful duties, fellow DeKalb police officer Torrey Thompson was forced to make a life or death decision. For this, he was indicated by Gwen Fleming, our lustrous District Attorney, for felony murder. (Click here for The Case for Torrey Thompson)

On April 12 2010 at 10:00, Torrey's defense will be argued in front of the Georgia Supreme Court. We ask that you prepare to support Torrey in his efforts to defend himself. Details are pending.

Please take the time to read the appeal filed on behalf of Torrey. Anyone one of us could face this same scenario as soon as your next dispatched call.

Be safe,

In 2009 DeKalb County Answered Nearly 80,000 Alarms, 97 % Where False

This is all the more reason the department should adopt a "Verified Alarm" policy. It's really simple. A resident has an alarm. The alarm company who is being paid by the resident should send someone to verify the alarm is valid. If it is, the police respond. If not, they don't. Simple.

"Alarm dealers view police as a gift to their business. They sell a system, charge monthly fees for managing effective response that is provided and paid by the general taxpayers. Dealers consider false activation to be an issue merely between the police and the customers. There is also little (apparent) interest by individual dealers to spend resources in order to solve their own and the communal problem".

Jodie Fleisher's story was informative, but it failed to bring to light the yearly cost to the taxpayers for the police and fire responding to these alarms. It has to be in the millions of dollars each year wasted. Maybe a follow up in order?

The county is on the verge of financial ruin. Instead of cutting out wasteful spending on false alarms, the commissioners lay off and furlough their employees and are itching to raise property taxes on it's citizens.

Someone has to stand up and say enough is enough!

Credit Where Credit Is Due

Steve Schwaid, news director of CBS Atlanta has in fact contacted us and confirmed the folks at CBS Atlanta "talked internally about the shooting of the man who attempted to attack police and the wording of the report". (Click here for 'What Is Up With CBS?)

Mr. Schwaid went as far as to say "we did not properly describe him. We should not have called him a victim."

We applaud Mr. Schwaid and CBS Atlanta for addressing the wording of the initial news report. We accept this as an apology and will move on.

What Is Up With CBS Atlanta?

Has CBS Atlanta news become tabloid news? Adam Murphy reports on police officers parking in "no parking" zones. During his report he stands on the sidewalk with a box of donuts calling out for police like they would come running.

Our fine officers in the east precinct were forced to shoot and kill a suspect wielding a knife. Facing danger to their own life, the officers did everything they could not to use deadly force, including using newly issued Tasers. With no other option, they did what they had to do.

Bernard Watson of CBS Atlanta tried his best to make the incident look as if the officers were in the wrong, calling the aggressor a "victim" and questioning "how the police could shoot a man in his own home?".

Watson, in desperation, says to the eyewitness "some are saying it's not right for this man to die in his own home". And the witness response was? "The police have a family to go home to, they've got to protect themselves too, he charged at them with a knife".

Bernard Watson, you are disgusting, and it appears channel 46 has an agenda against the police. It is becoming sickening.

Sometimes The Police Can Be Their Own Worse Enemy, And Squirrels Have Lucky Days

A.P.D. officers are busted by the media parking in "no parking" areas in downtown. One officer could not resist talking to the media and get his "15 minutes" of fame. His answer of "I didn't see the fire hydrant" ranks right up there with the perp question/answer "who me?"

Oh, and the ear-buds from his ipod or whatever, was a nice touch too. We're pretty sure there's a law against that too.

We don't mean to bust on you brother in blue, but damn!

The story by Adam Murphy of CBS Atlanta did it's job of embarrassing the Atlanta Police Department which will lead to stricter parking enforcement by the department. He should have stopped there.

But no, he couldn't resist a follow up with the typical "cop/donut" jokes that is more suited for Youtube than a major television news station in the Atlanta area. His second part was not news. Unless you find it to be news to watch a squirrel stand in traffic without getting run over.

Adam Murphy's email address is: adam.murhpy@cbsatlanta.com

Did we mention Adam Murphy's email address? It's: adam.murphy@cbsatlanta.com

Oh, and get a comb Adam.

Since When Is It The Police Role To Conduct A Census Count?

Is DeKalb County a police state?

In times of layoffs and furloughs, we are being forced to participate in counting illegal aliens. We should be rounding them up and shipping them back to where they illegally came from.
