Philly Cops No Longer Responding To Fender Benders
Starting this coming Monday, Philadelphia Police officers will no longer be responding to minor fender benders.Motorists will have to fend for themselves and call the nearest police district on their own.
Philadelphia Police officials said they respond to nearly 70,000 auto accidents each year, adding about 10,000 do not require a police officer.
"We can save police response time and have officers available for more important, pressing issues," Lt. Frank Vanore explained.
Beginning Monday, accidents that involve vehicles that can be safely driven away and no injuries to report can now exchange information and file a police report on the phone.
"If there's an issue that you don't feel can be resolved without the officer there, the dispatcher will evaluate that on the phone when you call 911 and then he/she will have an officer respond," Lt. Vanore said.
Several other cities, including Chicago, are already utilizing the policy.

Study Shows DeKalb Could Eliminate 909 Jobs, 33 Percent of Those Are In The C.E.O. Office
We're betting they will spin the study done by Georgia State University and make some kind of ridiculous statement like Micheal Bell got it right and GSU got it wrong.
The AJC points out "DeKalb, Cobb and Gwinnett’s populations differ by less than 100,000 residents. DeKalb has 8,077 employees, while Cobb has 4,600 and Gwinnett has 4,800."
"DeKalb has more residents who live below poverty level and twice as many police calls for service." Can we be any prouder?
If Burrell Ellis is having a hard time trying to decide who to layoff from his staff, we suggest he start with Shelia Edwards, Michael Bell and W.Z. Miller

Case Is Proven For Police Reserve Unit
Not included, are the 4 officers permanently assigned to building housing our fine C.E.O., Burrell Ellis (and you thought the "elite mentality" of Vernon Jones was gone) and the officer assigned to guard the Maloof Building.
If Burrell Ellis and the commissioners are really interested in protecting our citizens, they would implement the police reserve unit and let these officers guard these buildings, at no cost to the taxpayers.
Oh, we forgot, logic and government can not coexist.

Caught on Tape: Fulton Sheriff Investigates Deputy's Altercation With Braves Fan
As the Braves game ended Saturday and fans spilled out of Turner Field, a confrontation developed in one of the parking lots. And a man named Matt Lear hit the record button on his video camera.
"Nobody told you to touch my motorcycle," a man in a law enforcement uniform is heard saying to another man.
Lear edited the video, highlighting what appears to be the hand of the law enforcement officer striking the head of man whom Lear says was a baseball fan. It occurred in the blue parking lot along Fulton Street.
The Fulton County sheriff's office says it appears that the officer is one of its deputies, still unidentified. Sheriff Ted Jackson issued a statement, saying "There is an internal affairs investigation underway concerning this matter and we will follow the evidence wherever it leads us. Please be certain that this type of behavior will not be tolerated."
A Fulton county sheriff's spokeswoman says it's unclear whether the deputy actually arrested anybody.
The video goes on to show two men apologizing -- and the deputy handcuffing and threatening to use his taser on one of them.
The deputy was apparently working an off-duty job outside the stadium and employed for the night by the Atlanta Braves. A spokeswoman for the Braves says they, too, are investigating.

Commentator "LoFlyer" Speaks On Early Retirement
I kept my mouth shut on the retirement offer because I am self-centered and wanted the best deal possible leaving the county. Now that it is done, I have to ask both our commissioners and pension board (PB), "What the hell were you thinking?" when you came up with this gold plated jewel? As neither group intends to release their assumptions or the thinking behind the plan I will offer my thoughts and observations on the subject.
Little information was provided by the pension board except the bare-bones proposals of the various plans and options. I did hear that the board members primary concern was making sure they were individually included in the incentive. That is all hearsay and I invite any pension board member to explain why the "gold-plate" option was chosen.
My theory on the decision is that most of the assumptions used by the BOC and the PB were wrong, and that most of the PB was more interested in their personal welfare than what was best for the employees, retirees and the county. Probably the worst assumption made was by the BOC on employee working conditions, salary and morale.
I personally work in a dump that if it was inspected by OSHA would probably be shut down for structural damage. We are normally severely understaffed and underpaid, and our morale sux because the BOC's atrocious relationship with employees, to the point that they have to hang large posters in the county buildings so that employees will recognize who they are and quit making embarrassing comments in their presence.
Many of the eligible employees would of left with just being allowed to retire with no penalty and no incentives. The pension board appears as I have said earlier to have been more concerned with their personal benefits when leaving. An interesting question is how many of the pension board are eligible and taking the early retirement incentive?
I could be entirely wrong on my theories but the absence of any public discussion on the matter would lead one to believe the worst. My new calculations on the payout is 850 employees times 18 grand equals 15,300,000 dollars. I am truly sorry, mates!

Perp Steals Tucker Precinct Unit While Handcuffed
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A handcuffed suspect managed to steal a DeKalb County police car overnight, hitting an officer as he drove off from a traffic stop.
More DeKalb County news
The officer suffered only minor injuries in the 1:15 a.m. incident at Memorial Drive and Rays Road, DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said.
Parish told the AJC that the suspect, whose name was not immediately released, was detained for providing false information. The man was handcuffed and placed in the back seat of a patrol car.
She said the officer had returned to the stopped car when he noticed that the suspect had climbed through the partition into the front seat of the police cruiser "and was in the process of stealing the unit."
The suspect ditched the patrol car about a mile away in the parking lot of Value Village, Parish said. The suspect was found about an hour later in woods behind the Windchase Apartments on Hambrick Road, she said. He was still handcuffed.
The suspect faces a number of charges, including robbery and felony obstruction, Parish said.

The City of Dunwoody Considering Leaving DeKalb's E-911
Even as the county collects all 911 charges from both wired and wireless phone lines in the City of Dunwoody, the county refuses to dedicate a radio channel for the Dunwoody Police. Because Dunwoody Police doesn't have a dedicated channel, their calls, especially emergency calls are delayed.
Who can blame them? Especially after the fiasco with fire dispatched that caused the death of a Dunwoody resident. Not to mention the antiquated hardware and software of DeKalb's E-911 system.
How long has it been since we supposedly went digital, and emergency calls are still be dispatched to wrong precincts and absolutely nothing is being done to correct it?
The City of Dunwoody would be wise to seek their own E-911 system or share one with another city.
The commissioners of DeKalb County would be wise to ask for an outside investigation into our E-911 system to expose the waste, maybe theft and fraud of taxpayer money, before there is another preventable death.
